< Psalms 63 >
1 A psalm of David, when he was in the Judean desert. God, you are my God, I eagerly look for you. I am thirsty for you; all that I am longs for you in this dry, weary, waterless land.
A Psalm of David; when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee. My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh languisheth for thee, in a dry and weary land without water:
2 I see you in the Temple; I watch your power and glory.
To see thy power and thy glory, as I have beheld thee in the sanctuary;
3 Your trustworthy love is better than life itself; I will praise you.
For thy loving-kindness is better than life: my lips shall praise thee.
4 I will thank you as long as I live; I lift up my hands as I celebrate your wonderful character.
So will I bless thee while I live; I will lift up my hands in thy name.
5 You satisfy me more than the richest food; I will praise you with joyful songs.
My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise [thee] with joyful lips.
6 I think of you all night long as I lie on my bed meditating about you.
When I remember thee upon my bed, I meditate on thee in the night-watches:
7 For you are the one who helps me; I sing happily from under your wings.
For thou hast been my help, and in the shadow of thy wings will I sing for joy.
8 I hold on to you; your strong arms lift me up.
My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
9 Those who are trying to destroy me will go down into the grave.
But those that seek my soul, to destroy [it], shall go into the lower parts of the earth;
10 They will be killed by the sword; they will become food for jackals.
They shall be given over to the power of the sword; they shall be the portion of foxes.
11 But the king will be happy for what God has done. All who follow God will praise him, but those who tell lies will be silenced.
But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: for the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
