Psalms 58
1 For the music director. According to “Do Not Destroy.” A psalm (miktam) of David. You leaders, do you really say what is right? Do you judge people fairly?
Per il Capo de’ musici. “Non distruggere”. Inno di Davide. E’ egli proprio secondo giustizia che voi parlate, o potenti? Giudicate voi rettamente i figliuoli degli uomini?
2 No, for in your minds you plan evil. You cause violence everywhere!
Anzi, nel cuore voi commettete delle iniquità; nel paese, voi gettate nella bilancia la violenza delle vostre mani.
3 The wicked are sinners from birth; from the moment they're born they tell lies.
Gli empi sono sviati fin dalla matrice, i mentitori son traviati fino dal seno materno.
4 They have venom like that of a poisonous snake, and just like a cobra they stop listening,
Han del veleno simile al veleno del serpente, son come l’aspide sordo che si tura le orecchie,
5 refusing to hear the voice of the snake charmers or the spellbinders.
che non ascolta la voce degl’incantatori, del mago esperto nell’affascinare.
6 God, break their teeth, and smash the jaws of these lions, Lord.
O Dio, rompi loro i denti in bocca; o Eterno, fracassa i mascellari de’ leoncelli!
7 May they vanish like water that flows away; when they shoot their arrows may they miss their mark.
Si struggano com’acqua che scorre via; quando tirano le lor frecce, sian come spuntate.
8 May they be like the slime of snails that dissolves away, like a stillborn child that never saw the light of day.
Siano essi come lumaca che si strugge mentre va: come l’aborto d’una donna, non veggano il sole.
9 Before the cooking pot is hot from burning thorns, whether fresh or dry, God will blow them away.
Prima che le vostre pignatte sentano il fuoco del pruno, verde od acceso che sia il legno, lo porti via la bufera.
10 Those who live right will be happy when they see there is punishment; they will wash their feet in the blood of the wicked.
Il giusto si rallegrerà quando avrà visto la vendetta; si laverà i piedi nel sangue dell’empio;
11 They will say, “There is definitely a reward for those who live right; there is certainly a God who judges fairly on earth.”
e la gente dirà: Certo, vi è una ricompensa per il giusto; certo c’è un Dio che giudica sulla terra!
