< Psalms 33 >

1 Let those who do good shout for joy—those who live right should praise him!
Be joyful, O ye righteous, in the Lord; [for] unto the righteous praise is comely.
2 Praise the Lord with the lyre, play music to him on the ten-stringed harp.
Give thanks unto the Lord with the harp: with the ten-stringed psaltery do ye sing [praises] unto him.
3 Sing a new song to him; play your instruments well and shout for joy.
Sing unto him a new song; play beautifully amidst a triumphant shout.
4 For the word of the Lord is true, and he is trustworthy in everything he does.
For the word of the Lord is upright; and all his works [are done] in truth.
5 He loves all that is good and right; the earth is full of the Lord's trustworthy love.
He loveth righteousness and justice: the earth is full of the kindness of the Lord.
6 The Lord spoke the word and the heavens were made; his mouth breathed all the stars into existence.
By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
7 He gathers the waters of the sea together, he keeps the ocean depths in store.
He gathereth together like heaps the waters of the sea: he layeth up in store-houses the depths [of the sea].
8 Let all the earth show reverence to the Lord; let all the world's inhabitants be in awe of him.
Let all the earth fear the Lord: of him stand in awe all the inhabitants of the world.
9 For he spoke and the world came into existence; he gave the command and it was created.
For he spoke, and it came into being: he commanded, and it stood fast.
10 The Lord foils the decisions of the nations, he frustrates the plans of the peoples,
The Lord frustrateth the resolves of the nations: he bringeth to nought the thoughts of the people.
11 But the Lord's plan stands forever—what he decides lasts for all generations.
The counsel of the Lord will stand for ever, the thoughts of his heart from generation to generation.
12 Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he has chosen as specially belonging to him.
Happy is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he hath chosen for himself as a heritage.
13 The Lord looks from heaven and sees the whole of humanity,
The Lord looketh from heaven; he seeth all the sons of men.
14 from his throne he watches all those who live on earth.
From the place of his habitation he directeth his view upon all the inhabitants of the earth;
15 He created their minds, so he knows everything they do.
He fashioneth their hearts altogether; he hath regard to all their works.
16 Even the greatest army cannot save a king; the greatest strength cannot save a warrior.
The king is not saved by the multitude of an army: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
17 Don't deceive yourself: a warhorse can't give you victory—even its incredible strength won't save you.
Vain is the horse for victory: nor shall he deliver any by the greatness of his strength.
18 The Lord watches over those who reverently follow him, those who place their hope in his trustworthy love
Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those that fear him, upon those that hope for his kindness.
19 to save them from death and to keep them alive when famine strikes.
To deliver from death their soul, and to keep them alive in famine.
20 We place our confidence in the Lord; he is our help and our defender.
Our soul waiteth for the Lord: our help and our shield is he.
21 We are so happy about him, for we trust in his holy character.
For in him shall our heart rejoice: because in his holy name have we trusted.
22 Lord, let your trustworthy love rest upon us as we hope in you.
Let thy kindness, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in thee.
