< Psalms 144 >

1 A psalm of David. Praise the Lord—he is my rock. He trains me for battle, he gives me skill for war.
Na Rawiri. Kia whakapaingia a Ihowa, toku kamaka, e whakaako nei i oku ringa ki te whawhai, i oku maihao ki te tatau;
2 He is the one who faithfully loves me, protects me, and defends me. He is the one who rescues me, shields me from danger, and keeps me safe. He defeats nations and places them under my rule.
Ko te atawhai moku, ko toku pa, ko toku pourewa me toku kaiwhakaora; ko toku whakangungu rakau, ko taku e whakawhirinaki ai; ko te kaipehi hoki o toku iwi ki raro i ahau.
3 Lord, what are human beings that you should care about them? What are people that you should concern yourself with them?
E Ihowa, he aha te tangata i maharatia ai ia e koe? Te tama ranei a te tangata i whakaaroa ai ia e koe?
4 Humanity is like a breath; their lives are like a passing shadow.
Ko te rite o te tangata kei te mea memeha noa: ona ra me te mea he atarangi e rere atu ana.
5 Part your heavens and come down. Touch the mountains so that they give off smoke.
Whakapikoa iho ou rangi e Ihowa, a heke iho: pa ki nga maunga, a ka pongere.
6 Scatter your enemies with flashes of lightning! Let your arrows fly and send them running in confusion!
Kokiritia mai he uira hei whakamarara i a ratou: koperea mai au pere, kia whati ai ratou.
7 Stretch down your hand from heaven and set me free. Rescue me from raging waters, from the oppression of foreign enemies.
Totoro iho tou ringa i runga: tangohia ahau, whakaorangia ahau i nga wai nunui, i te ringa o nga tangata ke;
8 They are such liars, even telling lies under oath.
E korero teka nei to ratou mangai, a he ringa matau teka to ratou ringa matau.
9 God, I will sing a new song to you, accompanied by a ten-stringed harp,
Ka waiatatia e ahau he waiata hou ki a koe, e te Atua: ka himene atu ahau ki a koe i runga i te hatere aho tekau.
10 to you, the one who gives victory to kings. You saved your servant David from death by the sword.
Ko ia te kaihomai i te whakaoranga ki nga kingi, te kaiwhakaora i a Rawiri, i tana pononga, i te hoari whakamate.
11 Set me free. Rescue me from the oppression of foreign enemies. They are such liars, even telling lies under oath.
Tangohia ahau, whakaorangia hoki i nga ringa o nga tangata ke, e korero teka nei o ratou mangai, a he ringa matau teka to ratou ringa matau.
12 Then our sons will grow up like plants in their youth and become mature, and our daughters will be like beautiful pillars carved to support a palace.
A, kia rite a matou tama i to ratou taitamarikitanga ki nga mahuri e tupu ake ana; a matou tamahine hoki ki nga kohatu kokonga, whakapaipai rawa, no te whare rangatira te tauira;
13 Our storehouses will be full of all kinds of crops; our flocks of sheep will grow by thousands, increasing by tens of thousands in the pastures.
Kia ki a matou pakoro, mo te tiki noa atu i tena mea, i tena mea: kia mano, kia tini nga hua o a matou hipi i o matou parae;
14 Our cattle will grow fat. No one will break down our city walls, there will be no exile, no cries of mourning in our town squares.
Kia taimaha a matou kau i nga pikaunga; kia kahore he pakarutanga mai ki roto, he whatinga atu hoki ki waho, a kia kahore he aue i o matou huarahi;
15 The people who live like this will be happy. Happy are those whose God is the Lord.
Ka hari te iwi e pena ana: ae, ka hari te iwi ko Ihowa nei to ratou Atua.
