Psalms 14

1 For the music director. A psalm of David. Only fools tell themselves, “God doesn't exist.” They are completely immoral; they commit terrible sins; not a single one of them does anything good.

[Dem Vorsänger. Von David.] Der Tor [Auch: der gemeine, gottlose Mensch] spricht [O. hat gesprochen] in seinem Herzen: Es ist kein Gott! Sie haben verderbt gehandelt, sie haben abscheulich getan; da ist keiner, der Gutes tue.

2 The Lord watches from heaven to see whether anyone understands—if there's anyone who wants to come to God.

Jehova hat vom Himmel herniedergeschaut auf die Menschenkinder, um zu sehen, ob ein Verständiger da sei, einer, der Gott suche.

3 They have all gone their own way, they are totally depraved; none of them does anything good, not even one.

Alle sind abgewichen, sie sind allesamt verderbt; da ist keiner, der Gutes tue, auch nicht einer.

4 Won't these people who do evil ever learn? They consume my people as if they were eating bread, and refuse to pray to the Lord.

Haben keine Erkenntnis alle, die Frevel tun, die mein Volk fressen, als äßen sie Brot? Jehova rufen sie nicht an.

5 Look, they will become terrified, because God is with those who live right.

Da überfiel sie ein Schrecken, denn Gott ist unter dem gerechten Geschlecht.

6 The wicked dismiss the plans of the poor people, but the Lord looks after them.

Ihr machet zum Hohn den Ratschlag des Elenden, weil Jehova seine Zuflucht ist. [O. doch Jehova ist seine Zuflucht]

7 If only the Lord's salvation would come from Zion! When the Lord restores his people, the people of Jacob will celebrate, and the people of Israel will be glad.

O daß aus Zion die Rettung Israels da wäre! Wenn Jehova die Gefangenschaft seines Volkes wendet, soll Jakob frohlocken, Israel sich freuen.
