< Psalms 137 >
1 When we sat down by the rivers of Babylon we wept as we remembered Zion.
Nu yeroo Xiyoonin yaadannetti, lageen Baabilon bira teenyee boonye.
2 We hung up our harps on the willow trees.
Achittis kiraara keenya muka alaltuutti fannifne;
3 For those who had taken us captive asked us for a song—our tormentors wanted us to sing a happy song from Jerusalem.
achitti warri nu boojiʼan faarfannaa, warri nu dhiphisanis, “Faarfannaawwan Xiyoon keessaa tokko nuu faarfadhaa!” jedhanii akka nu faarfannaa gammachuu isaaniif faarfannu nu gaafatan.
4 But how could we sing a song dedicated to the Lord in a pagan land?
Nu utuu biyya ormaa jirruu, akkamitti faarfannaa Waaqayyoo faarfachuu dandeenya?
5 If I forget Jerusalem, may my right hand forget how to play;
Yaa Yerusaalem, yoo ani si irraanfadhe, harki koo mirgaa ogummaa isaa haa irraanfatu.
6 May my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I don't remember you—if I don't consider Jerusalem my greatest joy.
Yoo ani si yaadachuu baadhe, yoo ani gammachuu koo guddichaa olitti Yerusaalemin ilaaluu baadhe, arrabni koo laagaa kootti haa maxxanu.
7 Lord, please remember what the people of Edom did on the day Jerusalem fell, the ones who said “Tear it down! Destroy it down to its foundations!”
Yaa Waaqayyo, waan warri Edoom gaafa Yerusaalem diigamte jedhan sana yaadadhu; isaanis, “Ishee diigaa! Hamma hundee isheetti ishee diigaa!” jedhanii iyyan.
8 Daughter of Babylon, you will be destroyed! Happy is the one who pays you back, who does to you what you did to us!
Yaa intala Baabilon, kan baduudhaaf qophoofte, inni waan ati nu goote sanaaf, gatii kee siif kennu eebbifamaa dha.
9 Happy is the one who grabs your children and smashes them against the rocks!
Inni daaʼimman kee qabee dhagaa irratti caccabsu sun eebbifamaa dha.
