Proverbs 4
1 Listen, sons, to a father's instruction; pay attention and discover what makes sense,
Ecoutez, mes fils, la leçon d'un père, et soyez attentifs, pour apprendre la sagesse!
2 for what I am passing on to you is reliable. Don't reject my teachings.
Car je vous donne une doctrine excellente; n'abandonnez pas mes préceptes!
3 When I was a son with my father—a tender young boy, my mother's only child—
Car je fus un fils pour mon père, tendre et unique enfant sous les yeux de ma mère.
4 he was the one who taught me. He told me, “Pay attention to the words I say and keep them in mind; do what I tell you and you will live.
Et il m'instruisit et me dit: Que ton cœur retienne fermement mes paroles, observe mes préceptes, et tu auras la vie!
5 Get wisdom, find out what makes sense. Don't forget my words or reject them.
Acquiers la sagesse, acquiers la prudence, ne l'oublie pas, et ne t'écarte pas des paroles de ma bouche!
6 Don't give up on wisdom for she will keep you safe. Love wisdom and she will protect you.
Ne l'abandonne pas, et elle te gardera; aime-la; et elle te protégera.
7 The first thing in becoming wise is to get wisdom! Whatever else you gain, gain insight.
Voici le commencement de la sagesse « Acquiers la sagesse, et au prix de tout ton bien acquiers la prudence. »
8 Treasure wisdom, and she will praise you; embrace her, and she will honor you.
Exalte-la, et elle l'élèvera; elle t'honorera, si tu l'embrasses;
9 She will place on your head a wreath of grace; she will present to you a crown of glory.”
elle posera sur ta tête une couronne gracieuse, et te présentera un brillant diadème.
10 Listen, my son, if you accept what I tell you, then you will live a long life.
Ecoute, mon fils, et accueille mon discours, et pour toi les années de vie se multiplieront.
11 I have explained to you the way of wisdom; I have guided you along the right paths.
C'est la voie de la sagesse que je te montre, et je te conduis au droit sentier.
12 Nothing will block your way when you walk, you won't stumble when you run.
Si tu marches, tes pas ne seront pas gênés; et si tu cours, tu ne trébucheras point.
13 Hold on to these instructions—don't let them go. Protect them, for they are life's foundation.
Tiens ferme l'instruction, ne t'en dessaisis point; garde-la, car elle est ta vie!
14 Don't go the way of the wicked or follow the example of those who do evil.
Ne t'engage pas dans la route des impies, et ne t'avance pas sur la voie des méchants!
15 Avoid that way completely. Don't go there! Turn away, and walk on.
Quitte-la, n'y passe pas; fuis-la et passe outre!
16 Evil people won't rest until they've done something wrong; they can't sleep unless they've tripped someone up.
Car ils ne sauraient dormir, s'ils n'ont fait le mal, et le sommeil se dérobe à eux, s'ils n'ont causé des chutes.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.
Oui, l'impiété est le pain qu'ils prennent, et l'iniquité, le vin qu'ils boivent.
18 The way of life of the good is like the light of the sunrise, glowing brighter and brighter until the full light of day shines out.
Mais la voie des justes est comme l'éclat du soleil, dont la lumière croît jusqu'au plus haut point du jour.
19 But the way of life of the wicked is like complete darkness; they don't even know what they're tripping over.
La voie des impies est comme les ténèbres; ils ne savent où ils iront heurter.
20 My son, pay attention to what I tell you; listen to the words I'm saying.
Mon fils, sois attentif à mes paroles, et prête l'oreille à mes discours!
21 Don't lose sight of them; think about them deeply,
Ne les perds pas de vue; garde-les dans le fond de ton cœur!
22 for they are life to anyone who finds them, and make the whole body healthy.
Car ils sont une vie pour ceux qui les trouvent, et un remède pour leur corps tout entier,
23 Most of all, protect your mind, for everything in life flows from it.
Plus que tout ce qui se garde, garde ton cœur! car de lui jaillissent les sources de la vie.
24 Don't ever lie, and don't say anything dishonest.
Eloigne de ta bouche la fausseté, et de tes lèvres les détours!
25 Focus on what's ahead of you; look at what's in front of you.
Que tes yeux regardent en avant, et que tes paupières dirigent ta vue devant toi!
26 Pay attention to the path you decide to follow, and you'll be safe wherever you go.
Examine le chemin où tu mets le pied, et que toutes tes voies soient fermes;
27 Don't deviate to the right or the left, and turn away from evil.
ne fléchis ni à droite, ni à gauche, et retiens ton pied loin du mal!
