Proverbs 3
1 My son, don't forget my instructions. Always keep my commands in mind.
Filho meu, não te esqueças da minha lei, e o teu coração guarde os meus mandamentos.
2 Then you will live a long time, and have a full life.
Porque eles te acrescentarão longura de dias, e anos de vida e paz.
3 Hold on to kindness and truth. Tie them around your neck; write them in your mind.
Não te desamparem a benignidade e a fidelidade: ata-as ao teu pescoço; escreve-as na táboa do teu coração.
4 That way you'll gain a good reputation and be appreciated by both God and people.
E acharás graça e bom entendimento aos olhos de Deus e dos homens.
5 Put your trust totally in the Lord—don't rely on what you think you know!
Confia no Senhor com todo o teu coração, e não te estribes no teu próprio entendimento.
6 Remember him in everything you do, and he'll show you the right way.
Reconhece-o em todos os teus caminhos, e ele endireitará as tuas veredas.
7 Don't think you're wise—respect God and avoid evil.
Não sejas sábio a teus próprios olhos: teme ao Senhor e aparta-te do mal.
8 Then you will have healed and be made strong.
Isto será saúde para o teu umbigo, e regadura para os teus ossos.
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all the crops you grow.
Honra ao Senhor com a tua fazenda, e com as primícias de toda a tua renda.
10 Then your barns will be filled with produce, and your vats will overflow with new wine.
E se encherão os teus celeiros de fartura, e trasbordarão de mosto os teus lagares.
11 My son, don't reject the Lord's discipline or resent it when he corrects you,
Filho meu, não rejeites a correção do Senhor, nem te enojes da sua repreensão.
12 for the Lord corrects those he loves, as a father corrects a son who pleases him.
Porque o Senhor repreende aquele a quem ama, assim como o pai ao filho a quem quer bem.
13 Happy are those who find wisdom and gain understanding,
Bem-aventurado o homem que acha sabedoria, e o homem que produz inteligência.
14 for wisdom is worth more than silver, and pays better than gold.
Porque melhor é a sua mercadoria do que a mercadoria de prata, e a sua renda do que o ouro mais fino.
15 She is more valuable than rubies—everything you could ever want just doesn't compare!
Mais preciosa é do que os rubins, e tudo o que mais podes desejar não se pode comparar a ela.
16 She offers long life in one hand, and riches and honor in the other.
Longura de dias há na sua mão direita: na sua esquerda riquezas e honra.
17 She brings true happiness, and leads to peaceful prosperity.
Os caminhos dela são caminhos de delícias, e todas as suas veredas paz.
18 Wisdom is a tree of life to everyone who embraces her, blessing those who accept her.
É árvore da vida para os que dela pegam, e bem-aventurados são todos os que a reteem.
19 It was through wisdom that the Lord created the earth, and through understanding he set the heavens in place.
O Senhor com sabedoria fundou a terra: preparou os céus com entendimento.
20 It was through his knowledge the waters of the deep were broken open, and the clouds sent down the dew.
Pelo seu conhecimento se fenderam os abismos, e as nuvens destilam o orvalho.
21 My son, hold on to good judgment and wise decisions—don't let them out of your sight,
Filho meu, não se apartem estes dos teus olhos: guarda a verdadeira sabedoria e o bom siso;
22 for they will be life to you, and an ornament for your neck.
Porque serão vida para a tua alma, e graça para o teu pescoço.
23 You will be able to walk confidently on your way, and you won't trip up.
Então andarás com confiança pelo teu caminho, e não tropeçará o teu pé.
24 When you rest, you won't be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
Quando te deitares, não temerás: mas te deitarás e o teu sono será suave.
25 You won't be afraid of a sudden panic, or of disasters that hit the wicked,
Não temas o pavor repentino, nem a assolação dos ímpios quando vier.
26 for the Lord will be the one you can trust in, and he will prevent you being caught in a trap.
Porque o Senhor será a tua esperança, e guardará os teus pés de os prenderem.
27 Don't hold back good from those who deserve it when it's something you have the power to do.
Não detenhas dos seus donos o bem, tendo na tua mão poder faze-lo.
28 Don't tell your neighbor, “Go away. Come back tomorrow and then I'll give it to you,” when you've already got it.
Não digas ao teu próximo: vai, e torna, e amanhã to darei: tendo-o tu contigo.
29 Don't plan to harm your neighbor who lives nearby and trusts you.
Não maquines mal contra o teu próximo, pois habita contigo confiadamente.
30 Don't quarrel with anybody for no reason, when they haven't done anything to hurt you.
Não contendas contra alguém sem razão, se te não tem feito mal.
31 Don't be jealous of violent people—don't choose to follow their example!
Não tenhas inveja do homem violento, nem elejas algum de seus caminhos.
32 For the Lord hates deceitful people, but he is a friend to those who do what is good.
Porque o perverso é abominação ao Senhor, mas com os sinceros está o seu segredo.
33 The houses of the wicked are cursed by the Lord, but he blesses the homes of those who live right.
A maldição do Senhor habita na casa do ímpio, mas à habitação dos justos abençoará.
34 He mocks those who mock, but he is kind to the humble.
Certamente ele escarnecerá dos escarnecedores, mas dará graça aos mansos.
35 The wise will receive honor, but fools are held up in disgrace.
Os sábios herdarão honra, porém os loucos tomam sobre si confusão.
