< Proverbs 23 >

1 When you sit down for a meal with a ruler, look carefully at what is placed before you,
No makisangoka a mangan iti maysa a turay, paliiwem a nasayaat ti adda iti sangoanam,
2 and cut down if you have a big appetite.
ket mangikabilka iti kampit iti karabukobmo no sika tay tao a pagaayatna ti mangan iti adu a taraon.
3 Don't be greedy for his fancy food, for it's offered with deceptive motives.
Saanmo a tarigagayan dagiti naimas a taraon, ta taraon daytoy ti kinaulbod.
4 Don't wear yourself out trying to get rich—be wise enough not to bother!
Saanka nga agtrabaho iti kasta unay tapno bumaknangka; ammom koma no kaanoka nga aginana.
5 It disappears in the blink of an eye, suddenly growing wings and flying off into the sky like an eagle.
No dagita matam ket masisirap iti kuarta, agpukaw daytoy, ket kasla giddato nga iyunnatna dagiti payakna sa tumayab iti tangatang a kasla agila.
6 Don't accept meal invitations from miserly people; don't be greedy for their fancy food,
Saanmo a kankanen ti taraon ti dakes a tao- isu ti tao a nabayagen a kumitkita iti taraonmo- ken saanmo a tarigagayan dagiti naimas a taraonna,
7 for what they're thinking inside is what they really are. They say, “Come on, eat and drink!”—but in their minds they don't really care about you.
ta isuna tay kita iti tao a mangbilbilang ti gatad ti taraon. Kunana kenka, “Manganka ken uminomka!” ngem saan a dayta ti adda iti pusona.
8 You'll vomit up the little pieces you've eaten, and your kind words of appreciation will be wasted.
Kayatmo pay ketdin nga isarua ti sangabassit a nakanmo, ket sayang laeng ti panagyamanmo kenkuana.
9 Don't talk to stupid people because they'll ridicule your wise words.
Saanmo a kasarsarita ti maag, ta umsiennanto dagiti nasirib a sasaom.
10 Don't move ancient boundary markers, and don't encroach on fields belonging to orphans,
Saanmo nga iyakar ti nagkakauna a mohon wenno agumen dagiti talon dagiti ulila,
11 for their Protector is powerful and he will plead their case against you.
ta napigsa ti Mannubbotda, ket isunanto ti mangirupir iti kalinteganda a maibusor kenka.
12 Focus your mind on instruction; listen intently to words of knowledge.
Ipapusom dagiti sursuro, ken denggem dagiti sasao iti kinasirib.
13 Don't keep from disciplining your children—a beating won't kill them.
Saanka a bumdeng a mangisuro iti ubing, ta no bautem isuna, saan isuna a matay.
14 If you use physical correction you can save them from death. (Sheol h7585)
No bautem isuna, maisalakanmo ti kararuana manipud iti sheol. (Sheol h7585)
15 My son, if you think wisely then I'll be happy;
Anakko, no nasirib ta pusom, naragsak met ngarud toy pusok;
16 I'll be delighted when you say what's right.
agrag-o toy kaunggak no agisawsawang dagita bibigmo iti nasayaat.
17 Don't think enviously of sinners, but always remember to honor the Lord,
Saanmo nga ipalubos nga apalan ta pusom dagiti managbasol, ngem itultuloymo ketdi ti agbuteng kenni Yahweh iti inaldaw.
18 for there's definitely a future for you, and your hope will not be crushed.
Awan duadua nga adda masakbayan ket saanto a mapukaw ti namnamam.
19 Pay attention, my son, and be wise; make sure your mind concentrates on following the right way.
Dumngegka, anakko, ket agbalinka a masirib ken agbiagka iti umno a wagas.
20 Don't join in with people who drink too much wine or who stuff themselves with meat.
Saanka a makikadua kadagiti mammartek, wenno kadagiti narawet a mangan iti karne,
21 For people who get drunk and overeat lose all they've got, and they spend so much time dozing that all they have left to wear is rags.
ta pumanglawto dagiti mammartek ken narawet, ket agkawesdanto iti rutay rutay.
22 Pay attention to your father, and don't disregard your mother when she's old.
Dengggem ti amam a nangiputot kenka ken saanmo a laisen ti inam inton bumaket isuna.
23 Invest in truth—and don't sell it! Invest in wisdom, instruction, and understanding.
Arigna a gatangem ti kinapudno, ngem saanmo nga ilaklako; arigna a gatangem ti kinasirib, panangisuro ken pannakaawat.
24 Children who do right make their fathers very happy; a wise son brings joy to his father.
Agrag-o iti kasta unay ti ama ti tao nga agar-aramid iti nalinteg, ken agragsak met ti makin-anak iti maysa a masirib nga anak.
25 Make your father and mother happy; bring joy to her who gave birth to you.
Maragsakan koma da amam ken inam ken agrag-o koma ti nangisikog kenka.
26 My son, give me your undivided attention, and cheerfully follow my example.
Anakko, itedmo kaniak ta pusom, ket paliiwen koma dagita matam dagiti wagasko.
27 A prostitute is like being trapped in a pit; an immoral woman is like getting stuck a narrow well,
Ta ti maysa a balangkantis ket maiyarig iti nauneg nga abut, ken maiyarig met iti akikid nga abut ti asawa ti sabali pay a lalaki.
28 Like a robber, she lies in wait ready to ambush men and make more of them unfaithful to their wives.
Aglemlemmeng isuna nga agur-uray a kas iti agtatakaw, ken papaaddoenna ti bilang dagiti nagulib iti sangkataoan.
29 Who's in trouble? Who's in pain? Who's arguing? Who's complaining? Who's injured for no reason? Who's got bloodshot eyes?
Siasino aya ti kakaasi? Siasino aya ti agladladingit? Siasino aya ti makirangranget? Siasino aya ti agrekreklamo? Siasino aya ti nasugatan nga awan gapgapuna? Siasino aya ti limmablabbaga ti matana?
30 —those who spend a long time drinking wine, those who are always trying some new cocktail.
Dagidiay naigamer iti arak, dagidiay agin-inom iti naglalaok nga arak.
31 Don't let the look of wine tempt you—how red it is, how it sparkles in the cup, how smooth it feels as it goes down.
Saanmo a kitkitaen ti arak no nalabaga daytoy, no rumimat-rimat ti uneg ti kopa ken mayat ti panagaruyotna.
32 In the end it bites like a serpent, it stings like a snake.
Iti udina, kumagat a kasla karasaen ken kumagat a kasla nagita nga uleg.
33 You'll hallucinate, seeing strange things, and your confused mind will make you say all kinds of craziness.
Makakitanto dagiti matam kadagiti karkarna a banbanag, ket agisawangto ta pusom kadagiti saan nga um-umno a banbanag.
34 You'll stumble around like you're on the rolling ocean, you'll be tossed about like someone lying down at the top of a ship's mast, saying,
Agbalinkanto a maysa kadagiti matmaturog kadagiti nangangato a taaw wenno agid-idda kadagiti tali ken kawar ti barko.
35 “People punched me, but it didn't hurt me; they beat me, but I didn't feel a thing. I've got to get up because I need another drink.”
“Kinabildak!” kunamto, “ngem saanak a nasaktan. Pinang-ordak, ngem diak narikna. Kaanoakto a makariing? Mangbirukak pay iti sabali a mainum.”
