Proverbs 19
1 Better to be poor but honest than stupid and tell lies.
Mejor es ser pobre y honesto, que un tonto y mentiroso.
2 It's not good to be someone who doesn't think. If you rush, things go wrong.
No es bueno ser de los que no piensan. Si actúas con afán, cometerás errores.
3 People mess up their lives by their own stupidity, and then get angry with the Lord.
La gente destruye su vida por causa de su propia estupidez, y se enojan con el Señor.
4 If you're rich, you get a lot of friends, but if you're poor, you lose any friends you had.
Si eres rico, tendrás muchos amigos; pero si eres pobre, perderás todos los amigos que tenías.
5 A false witness will be punished; liars won't get away with their lies.
El testigo falso será castigado; los mentirosos no podrán escaparse con sus mentiras.
6 Many ask favors from important people, and everyone's a friend of the generous.
Muchos piden favores a personas importantes, y todos son amigos del que es generoso.
7 If a poor man's relatives can't stand him, how much more will his friends avoid him! He tries to talk with them but they don't listen.
Si los familiares del pobre no lo pueden soportar, ¡cuanto menos lo evitarán sus amigos! El tratará de hablarles, pero ellos no lo escucharán.
8 If you become wise, you have good self-esteem; if you learn good sense you'll be successful.
Si te vuelves sabio, tendrás amor propio; si aprendes a tener buen juicio, serás exitoso.
9 A false witness will be punished; people who tell lies will perish.
El testigo falso será castigado, y los mentirosos perecerán.
10 It's not right for stupid people to live in luxury, and it's even worse for a slave to rule over leaders.
No es correcto que los tontos vivan en medio de lujos, e incluso es peor que un esclavo gobierne por encima de los líderes.
11 If you have good sense you'll be slow to get angry; you gain respect by forgiving wrongs.
Si tienes inteligencia, serás lento para enojarte. Serás respetado al perdonar ofensas.
12 When a king gets angry, he sounds like a roaring lion; but his kindness is as soft as dew on the grass.
Cuando un rey se enoja, se escucha como un león rugiente. Pero su bondad es tan suave como el rocío sobre la hierba.
13 A stupid son makes his father miserable, and an argumentative wife is like dripping that never stops.
Un hijo tonto trae miseria a su padre, y una esposa conflictiva es como una gotera que nunca se seca.
14 You inherit a house and wealth from your father, but a sensible wife is a gift from the Lord.
De tu padre heredarás una casa y riquezas; pero una esposa prudente es un regalo de Dios.
15 Lazy people are often fast asleep, but idleness means they're hungry.
Los perezosos se quedan dormidos con frecuencia; pero su holgazanería indica que están hambrientos.
16 Keep the commandments, and you'll live; despise them and you'll die.
Guarda los mandamientos y vivirás. Recházalos y morirás.
17 If you're kind to the poor, you're lending to the Lord, and he will repay you well for what you've done.
Si eres bondadoso con el pobre, estarás prestándole al Señor, y él te pagará con creces por lo que has hecho.
18 Discipline your son while there's still hope, but don't kill him.
Disciplina a tu hijo cuando aún hay tiempo, pero no lo mates.
19 People who often get angry have to pay the penalty; if you help them, you'll have to do it again.
Los que se enojan con facilidad tienen que pagar el precio por ello. Si les ayudas, tendrás que hacerlo de nuevo.
20 Listen to advice and accept instruction so that you'll eventually become wise.
Escucha el consejo y acepta la instrucción, para que con el tiempo te vuelvas sabio.
21 Human beings make many plans in their minds, but the final decision is the Lord's.
Los seres humanos hacen planes en sus mentes, pero la decisión final es del Señor.
22 The most desirable thing in anyone is trustworthy love; it is better to be poor than a liar.
El deseo más profundo de todas las personas es el amor sincero. Mejor es ser pobre que un mentiroso.
23 Honoring the Lord is life, and you will rest contentedly, safe from harm.
Honrar al Señor es vida, y podrás descansar confiado, libre de todo mal.
24 Lazy people put their hands in a dish, and won't even lift the food to their mouths.
Los perezosos llevan su mano al plato, y ni siquiera la levantan para poner la comida en su boca.
25 If you punish someone who mocks, you may help an immature person to learn. Correct the wise, and they become wiser.
Si castigas al burlador, puede que estés instruyendo a un inmaduro. Corrige al sabio, y será más sabio.
26 A son who abuses his father and chases away his mother brings shame and disgrace.
Un hijo que abusa de su padre y ahuyenta a su madre, acarrea vergüenza y desgracia.
27 My son, stop listening to my instruction and you'll soon give up following wisdom.
Hijo mío, cuando dejes de escuchar mi instrucción pronto dejarás de seguir la sabiduría.
28 A crooked witness makes a mockery of justice; and the wicked wolf down evil.
El testigo deshonesto se burla de la justicia, y el malvado se sacia de maldad.
29 Punishment is ready for those who mock; flogging is ready for the backs of the stupid.
El castigo está preparado para los burladores, y el azote para las espaldas de los tontos.
