< Proverbs 14 >
1 Every wise woman builds her house, but the stupid woman tears it down with her own hands.
La sagesse des femmes bâtit leur maison, mais la folie la détruit de ses propres mains.
2 Those who live right respect the Lord, but those who live dishonestly despise him.
Celui qui marche dans sa droiture craint l’Éternel, mais celui qui est pervers dans ses voies le méprise.
3 What stupid people say punishes their pride, but what wise people say will protect them.
Dans la bouche du fou est la verge d’orgueil, mais les lèvres des sages les gardent.
4 Without oxen, the manger is empty, but a good harvest comes through the ox's strength.
Où il n’y a point de bœufs, la crèche est vide; et l’abondance du revenu est dans la force du bœuf.
5 A trustworthy witness doesn't lie, but a false witness is deceptive.
Le témoin fidèle ne ment pas, mais le faux témoin profère des mensonges.
6 It's pointless for a scoffer to look for wisdom, but knowledge comes easily to someone who understands.
Le moqueur cherche la sagesse, et il n’y en a pas [pour lui]; mais la connaissance est aisée pour l’homme intelligent.
7 Stay away from stupid people—you won't learn anything from them.
Éloigne-toi de la présence de l’homme insensé, chez qui tu n’as pas aperçu des lèvres de connaissance.
8 Sensible people use their wisdom to decide where they're going, but the foolishness of stupid people is treacherous.
La sagesse de l’homme avisé est de discerner sa voie, mais la folie des sots est tromperie.
9 Stupid people laugh at sin, but good people want forgiveness.
Les fous se moquent du péché, mais pour les hommes droits il y a faveur.
10 The individual's mind alone knows its sadnesses, and no one else can share its happiness.
Le cœur connaît sa propre amertume, et un étranger ne se mêle pas à sa joie.
11 The house of wicked people will be destroyed, but the tent of good people will prosper.
La maison des méchants sera détruite, mais la tente des hommes droits fleurira.
12 There's a way that seems to be right, but in the end it's the way of death.
Il y a telle voie qui semble droite à un homme, mais des voies de mort en sont la fin.
13 Even when you're laughing you can be feeling sad—joy can end in grief.
Même dans le rire le cœur est triste; et la fin de la joie, c’est le chagrin.
14 Disloyal people are repaid for what they do, and good people are rewarded.
Le cœur qui s’éloigne [de Dieu] sera rassasié de ses propres voies, mais l’homme de bien [le sera] de ce qui est en lui.
15 Stupid people believe whatever they're told, but sensible people think about what they're doing.
Le simple croit toute parole, mais l’homme avisé discerne ses pas.
16 Wise people are careful and avoid evil, but stupid people are confidently reckless.
Le sage craint, et se retire du mal; mais le sot est arrogant et a de l’assurance.
17 Quick-tempered people act foolishly, while people who make evil plans are hated.
L’homme prompt à la colère agit follement, et l’homme qui fait des machinations est haï.
18 The inheritance of stupid people is stupidity, but sensible people are rewarded with knowledge.
Les simples héritent la folie, mais les avisés sont couronnés de connaissance.
19 Evil people bow down before good people, and the wicked bow down at the doors of those who do right.
Les iniques se courbent devant les bons, et les méchants, aux portes du juste.
20 The poor are hated even by their neighbors, while the rich have many friends.
Le pauvre est haï, même de son compagnon, mais les amis du riche sont en grand nombre.
21 People who look down on their neighbors are sinners, but those who are kind to the poor are blessed.
Qui méprise son prochain pèche, mais bienheureux celui qui use de grâce envers les malheureux!
22 Aren't people who plan to do evil wrong? But those who plan to do good have trustworthy love and faithfulness.
Ceux qui machinent du mal ne s’égarent-ils pas? Mais la bonté et la vérité sont pour ceux qui méditent le bien.
23 There's profit in hard work, but chatting just leads to poverty.
En tout travail il y a profit, mais la parole des lèvres ne mène qu’à la disette.
24 The wise are rewarded with wealth, but stupid people are rewarded with stupidity.
Les richesses des sages sont leur couronne; la folie des sots est folie.
25 A truthful witness saves lives, but a false witness is treacherous.
Un témoin fidèle délivre les âmes, mais la tromperie profère des mensonges.
26 People who honor the Lord are completely safe; he will protect their children.
Dans la crainte de l’Éternel il y a la sécurité de la force, et il y a un refuge pour ses fils.
27 Respecting the Lord is like a fountain of life, so you can avoid the snares of death.
La crainte de l’Éternel est une fontaine de vie, pour faire éviter les pièges de la mort.
28 The glory of a king is the number of his subjects, for a ruler is nothing without them.
La gloire d’un roi, c’est la multitude du peuple, mais dans le manque de peuple est la ruine d’un prince.
29 If you're slow to get angry, you're very wise; but if you have a short fuse you glorify stupidity.
La lenteur à la colère est grande intelligence, mais celui qui est d’un esprit impatient exalte la folie.
30 A peaceful mind makes your body healthy, but jealousy makes your bones rot.
Un cœur sain est la vie de la chair, mais l’envie est la pourriture des os.
31 Anyone who oppresses the poor insults their Maker, but anyone who is kind to the needy honors him.
Qui opprime le pauvre outrage Celui qui l’a fait, mais celui qui l’honore use de grâce envers l’indigent.
32 Wicked people are brought down by their own evil actions, but those who live right are confident even in death.
Le méchant est chassé par son iniquité, mais le juste est plein de confiance, dans sa mort [même].
33 Wisdom is at home in a mind that understands, but it's not found among stupid people.
La sagesse demeure dans le cœur de celui qui a du discernement, mais ce qui est au-dedans des sots est connu.
34 Doing right makes a nation successful, but sin is a disgrace to any people.
La justice élève une nation, mais le péché est la honte des peuples.
35 A servant who acts wisely is appreciated by the king, but he gets angry with a servant who acts disgracefully.
La faveur du roi est pour le serviteur intelligent, mais sa colère est sur celui qui fait honte.
