< Proverbs 1 >

1 The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel.
Ici nĩ thimo cia Solomoni mũrũ wa Daudi, ũrĩa warĩ mũthamaki wa Isiraeli:
2 They are for achieving wisdom and instruction, and to recognize sayings that bring insight.
nĩ thimo cia gũtũma mũndũ agĩe na ũũgĩ, na ataarĩke; nĩ cia gũtũma ahote gũtaũkĩrwo nĩ ciugo cia ũũgĩ;
3 They provide education in what makes sense, living right, judging correctly, and acting fairly.
nĩ cia gũtũma mũndũ ataarĩke ahote kũbarĩrĩra mũtũũrĩre wake, ekage maũndũ marĩa magĩrĩire, na ma kĩhooto, na marĩa mega;
4 They give discernment to the immature, knowledge and discretion to the young.
nĩ cia gũtũma ũrĩa ũtarĩ na ũũgĩ agĩe na ũmenyo, na cia gũtũma mũndũ mwĩthĩ agĩe na ũmenyo na ũgereri:
5 Wise people will listen and gain in learning, and those who have good judgment will gain skills in guidance,
arĩa oogĩ-rĩ, nĩmathikĩrĩrie na mongerere wĩruti wao, nao arĩa akũũrani maũndũ metĩkĩre gũtongorio.
6 understanding the proverbs and puzzles, the sayings and questions of the wise.
Ningĩ nĩ cia gũtũma mũndũ ataũkĩrwo nĩ thimo na ngerekano, na ataũkĩrwo nĩ ciugo cia andũ arĩa oogĩ, na ndaĩ ciao.
7 Honoring the Lord is where true knowledge begins, but fools treat wisdom and good advice with contempt.
Kĩambĩrĩria kĩa ũmenyo nĩ gwĩtigĩra Jehova, no arĩa akĩĩgu nĩ mathũire ũũgĩ na ũtaaro.
8 My son, pay attention to your father's instruction, and don't reject your mother's teaching.
Mũrũ wakwa, thikĩrĩria mataaro ma thoguo, na ndũgatigane na ũrutani wa maitũguo.
9 They are a wreath of grace to decorate your head; they are pendants for your neck.
Maũndũ macio magaatuĩka ithaga rĩa kũgemia mũtwe waku, na ta mũgathĩ wa kũgemia ngingo yaku.
10 My son, if evil people try to tempt you, don't give into them.
Mũrũ wakwa, ehia mangĩgakũheenereria-rĩ, ndũkanetĩkanie nao.
11 They may tell you, “Come with us. Let's go and hide, ready to kill someone. Let's ambush someone for fun!
Mangĩgakwĩra atĩrĩ, “Ũka ũthiĩ hamwe na ithuĩ; reke tuoherie mũndũ tũite thakame yake, reke tũcemaceeme mũndũ o na ũtehĩtie;
12 Let's bury them alive; let's put them in the grave while they're still healthy! (Sheol h7585)
ningĩ reke tũmamerie marĩ muoyo, o ta ũrĩa mbĩrĩra ĩĩkaga, na marĩ agima, o ta arĩa maharũrũkaga irima; (Sheol h7585)
13 We'll take from them all kinds of valuable things and fill our homes with the stuff we steal!
Na ithuĩ-rĩ, tũkĩgĩe na indo cia goro cia mĩthemba yothe, na tũiyũrie nyũmba ciitũ na indo cia ndaho;
14 Come and join us and we'll all share what we get!”
rutithania wĩra na ithuĩ, tũkorwo na mũhuko ũmwe ithuothe”;
15 My son, don't follow their ways. Don't go in that direction with them.
mũrũ wakwa, tiga gũtwarana nao, ndũkagerere njĩra ciao;
16 For they rush to do evil; they hurry to commit violence and murder.
nĩgũkorwo magũrũ mao mahanyũkaga mathiĩ mehia-inĩ, nao mahiũhaga magaite thakame.
17 There's no point in trying to lure birds into a net when they can see it.
Kaĩ nĩ wĩra wa tũhũ kũiga gĩkerenge nyoni ciothe igĩkuonaga-ĩ!
18 However, these evil people hide ready to kill others, but they themselves are the victims. They're only ambushing themselves!
Andũ aya mohagĩria thakame yao ene; maceemaga o mĩoyo yao ene!
19 This is what happens to you if you try to become rich through crime—it kills you!
Ũcio nĩguo mũthia wa arĩa othe magĩaga na indo na njĩra ya ungumania; indo icio iniinaga mĩoyo ya arĩa magĩaga nacio.
20 Wisdom calls out in the streets; she shouts aloud in the squares.
Ũũgĩ nĩ aretana anĩrĩire njĩra-inĩ, ningĩ agakayũrũrũka arĩ ihaaro-inĩ cia mũingĩ;
21 She cries out at busy corners; she explains her message at the town gates:
Aragũthũka na mũgambo mũnene arĩ magomano-inĩ ma njĩra kũu kũrĩ inegene, o na itoonyero rĩa itũũra inene akoria atĩrĩ:
22 “How long will you stupid people love stupidity? How long will scornful people enjoy their mocking? How long will fools hate knowledge?
“Inyuĩ mũtarĩ ũũgĩ-rĩ, nĩ nginya rĩ mũgũtũũra mwendete njĩra cianyu itarĩ cia ũũgĩ? Nĩ nginya rĩ anyũrũrania megũtũũra makenagĩra kĩnyũrũri, na arĩa akĩĩgu mathũire ũmenyo?
23 Pay attention to my warnings, and I'll pour out my deepest thoughts to you—I'll explain what I know to you.
Korwo nĩmwetĩkĩrire kũigua ũtaaro wakwa-rĩ, nĩingĩamũhingũrĩire ngoro yakwa, ndũme mũmenye meciiria makwa.
24 For I have called you, but you refused to listen; I reached out my hand to you, but you didn't care.
No tondũ nĩmwaregire kũnjigua rĩrĩa ndetanire, na gũtirĩ mũndũ werũmbũirie hĩndĩ ĩrĩa ndatambũrũkirie guoko gwakwa,
25 You ignored everything I said; you wouldn't accept any of my warnings.
na mũkĩagĩra mataaro makwa mothe bata, na mũkĩaga gwĩtĩkĩra ikaanania rĩakwa-rĩ,
26 So I'll laugh at you when you're in trouble; I'll mock you when you're in a panic.
niĩ na niĩ nĩngamũthekerera hĩndĩ yanyu ya mwanangĩko, na ndĩmũnyũrũrie rĩrĩa mũgaakorererwo nĩ mũtino:
27 When panic rains down on you like a storm, when trouble hits you like a whirlwind, when sorrow and pain come on you,
ĩĩ hĩndĩ ĩrĩa guoya ũkaamũkorerera ta kĩhuhũkanio, rĩrĩa mwanangĩko ũkaamũhaata ta rũhuho rwa kĩhuhũkanio, rĩrĩa mũgaakinyĩrĩrwo nĩ mĩnyamaro na ruo rwa ngoro.
28 then you'll call out to me for help, but I won't answer; you'll search hard for me, but won't find me.
“Hĩndĩ ĩyo nĩmakangaĩra, no ndikametĩka; nĩmakanjetha na kĩyo, no matikanyona.
29 Why?—because they hated knowledge, and they didn't choose to respect the Lord.
Tondũ nĩmathũũrire ũmenyo, na matiigana gũthuura gwĩtigĩra Jehova,
30 They're not willing to accept my advice; they despise all my warnings.
tondũ matietĩkĩrire mataaro makwa, na nĩmamenire ikaanania rĩakwa,
31 So they'll have to eat the fruit of their own choices, bloated by their own devious schemes.
makaarĩa maciaro ma mĩthiĩre yao, na mahũũnio nĩ maciaro ma mathugunda mao.
32 Stupid people are killed by their rebellion; foolish people are destroyed by their lack of concern.
Nĩgũkorwo ũgenyũ wa arĩa matarĩ ũũgĩ nĩũkamooraga, nakuo kwĩgangara kwa arĩa akĩĩgu nĩgũkamaniina;
33 But everyone who listens to me will be kept safe, and will live without worrying about problems.”
no ũrĩa wothe ũnjiguaga arĩtũũraga na thayũ, na atũũre ahooreire, atarĩ ũgwati angĩĩtigĩra.”
