Numbers 25
1 When the Israelites were staying at Shittim the men started to have sex with Moabite women
Mientras Israel permanecía en Sitim, el pueblo comenzó a prostituírse con las hijas de Moab,
2 who invited them to the sacrifices made to their gods. The Israelites ate the pagan meals and bowed down before these gods.
las cuales invitaban al pueblo a los sacrificios a sus ʼelohim. El pueblo comió y se postró ante los ʼelohim de ellas.
3 In this way the Israelites devoted themselves in worship to Baal of Peor, and the Lord was angry with them.
Así Israel se unió a baal Peor, y la ira de Yavé se encendió contra Israel.
4 The Lord told Moses, “Arrest all the Israelite leaders and kill them before the Lord where everyone can see in order to turn the Lord's furious anger away from the people.”
Y Yavé dijo a Moisés: Detén a todos los jefes del pueblo y ahórcalos a pleno sol delante de Yavé. Y el ardor de la ira de Yavé se apartará de Israel.
5 So Moses instructed Israel's judges, “Each of you has to kill all of your men who have devoted themselves to worshiping Baal of Peor.”
Entonces Moisés dijo a los jueces de Israel: Que cada uno mate a sus hombres que se unieron a baal Peor.
6 Right then an Israelite man brought a Midianite woman to his family tent in full view of Moses and all the Israelites as they were crying at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
Y mientras ellos lloraban en la entrada del Tabernáculo de Reunión, ahí llegaba un varón de los hijos de Israel que llevaba una madianita a vista de Moisés y de toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel.
7 When he saw this, Phinehas, son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, left the assembly, grabbed a spear
Cuando lo vio Finees, hijo de Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón, se levantó de en medio de la congregación. Al tomar una lanza en su mano,
8 and followed the man into his tent. There Phinehas drove the spear through both of them, through the Israelite and on into the woman's stomach. This action stopped the plague that had started to kill the Israelites,
fue tras el israelita hacia el Tabernáculo y los atravesó a ambos por su vientre, al varón de Israel y a la mujer. Y en seguida se detuvo la mortandad de sobre los hijos de Israel.
9 but 24,000 had already died.
Pero en aquella mortandad murieron 24.000.
10 The Lord told Moses,
Entonces Yavé habló a Moisés:
11 “Phinehas son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my anger away from the Israelites, because out of all of them he was passionately dedicated to me, so I did not destroy the Israelites in my passionate anger.
Finees, hijo de Eleazar, hijo del sacerdote Aarón, desvió mi furor de sobre los hijos de Israel, al mostrar su celo por Mí en medio de ellos, por lo cual Yo no consumí en mi celo a [todos] los hijos de Israel.
12 So make an announcement that I am granting him my peace agreement.
Por tanto, anuncia: Ciertamente Yo establezco un Pacto de paz
13 It will be an agreement that ensures a permanent priesthood for him and his descendants, because he was passionately dedicated to his God and set the Israelites right.”
con él y su descendencia, el Pacto del sacerdocio perpetuo, porque él fue celoso por su ʼElohim e hizo sacrificio que apacigua por los hijos de Israel.
14 The name of the Israelite who was killed with the Midianite woman was Zimri, son of Salu, a family leader of the tribe of Simeon.
El nombre del israelita que fue asesinado con la madianita era Zimri, hijo de Salu, jefe de una familia de la tribu de Simeón.
15 The name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi, daughter of Zur, a family leader of a Midianite tribe.
El nombre de la madianita asesinada era Cozbi, hija de Zur, jefe de una tribu, padre de una familia de Madián.
16 The Lord told Moses,
Entonces Yavé habló a Moisés:
17 “Attack the Midianites and kill them,
Ataquen a los madianitas y destrúyanlos,
18 because they attacked you deceptively, leading you astray by using Peor and their woman Cozbi, the daughter of the Midianite leader—the woman who was killed on the day the plague came because of their devotion to Peor.”
pues ellos son sus enemigos por las astucias con las cuales los engañaron en el asunto de Peor y en el asunto de Cozbi, hija del jefe de Madián, hermana de ellos, que fue asesinada el día de la mortandad a causa de Peor.
