< Numbers 23 >

1 Then Balaam told Balak, “Build seven altars for me here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me to sacrifice.”
2 Balak did as Balaam had said, and together they offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
3 Balaam said to Balak, “Wait here beside your burnt offering while I go and see if perhaps the Lord will come and meet with me. Whatever he reveals to me, I'll share with you.” Then Balaam left to climb up a rocky crag.
4 God met with him there, and Balaam said. “I have built seven altars and on each altar I have offered a bull and a ram.”
Bondye te rankontre Balaam, e li te di Li: “Mwen te ranje sèt lotèl yo, e mwen te ofri yon towo avèk yon belye sou chak lotèl.”
5 The Lord gave Balaam a message to share. He told him, “Go back to Balak and this is what you are to say to him.”
Konsa, SENYÈ a te mete yon pawòl nan bouch Balaam. Li te di: “Retounen kote Balak. Ou va pale konsa.”
6 So he went back to Balak, who was waiting there beside his burnt offering, along with all the Moabite leaders.
Konsa, li te retounen kote li. E gade byen, Balak te kanpe bò kote ofrann brile li a; li menm avèk tout chèf Moab yo.
7 This is the declaration that Balaam gave: “Balak brought me from Aram; the king of Moab brought me from the mountains of the east. He said, ‘Come and curse Jacob for me! Come and condemn Israel!’
‘Vin modi Jacob pou mwen. Vin denonse Israël!’
8 But how can I curse what God has not cursed? How can I condemn what the Lord has not condemned?
Kijan mwen kapab modi, lè Bondye pa t modi? Epi kijan mwen kapab denonse sila ke SENYÈ a pa t denonse?
9 For I'm looking down on them from the top of rocky crags; I'm watching them from the hills. I see a people who live on their own, different from the other nations.
“Jan mwen konn wè li soti anwo nan pwent wòch yo, e mwen gade li depi sou kolin yo. Gade byen, yon pèp ki rete apa, ki p ap kab konte pami nasyon yo.
10 Who can count Jacob's descendants? They are so many they're like dust! Who can count even a quarter of the Israelites? I would like to die as a good person dies! Let the end of my life be like their end!”
Kilès ki kab konte pousyè a Jacob, oswa konte menm yon ka an Israël? Kite mwen mouri lanmò a jis yo, pou lafen pa mwen an tankou pa li.”
11 Then Balak complained to Balaam, “What on earth have you done to me? I brought you here to curse my enemies, and now look! All you have done is bless them!”
Konsa, Balak te di a Balaam: “Kisa ou te fè m konsa? Mwen te pran ou pou modi lènmi mwen yo, e gade byen, ou te vrèman beni yo!”
12 But Balaam replied, “Don't you think I should I say precisely what the Lord tells me?”
13 Then Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place where you can see them. But you'll only see a part of their camp—you won't see all of them. You can curse them for me from there.”
Alò Balak te di li: “Souple, vin avèk mwen nan yon lòt kote pou ou ka wè yo. Malgre w ap wè sèlman ti bout a dènye pwent lan, e ou p ap wè tout a yo. Modi yo pou mwen depi la.”
14 He took him to the field of Zophim at the top of Mount Pisgah. There he built seven altars and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
Konsa, li te pran li rive nan chan Tsophim nan, nan pwent Mòn Pigsa a. Li te bati sèt lotèl e li te ofri yon towo avèk yon belye sou chak lotèl.
15 Balaam told Balak, “Wait here beside your burnt offering while I meet the Lord over there.”
Konsa, li te di a Balak: “Kanpe bò kote ofrann brile ou a, pandan mwen menm, mwen ap rankontre SENYÈ a soti lòtbò.”
16 The Lord met Balaam and gave him a message to share. He told him, “Go back to Balak and this is what you are to say to him.”
Alò, SENYÈ a te rankontre Balaam e Li te mete yon pawòl nan bouch li. Li te di li: “Retounen jwenn Balak, e konsa ou va pale.”
17 So he went back to Balak, who was waiting there beside his burnt offering, along with all the Moabite leaders. “What did the Lord say?” Balak asked.
Li te vin kote li, e gade byen, li te kanpe bò kote ofrann brile pa li a, epi chèf Moab yo te avèk li. Konsa, Balak te di li: “Kisa SENYÈ a te pale a?”
18 This is the prophecy that Balaam delivered: “Stand up, Balak, and pay attention! Listen to me, son of Zippor!
Alò, li te pran diskou li. Li te di: “Leve ou menm, O Balak, pou tande! Ban m zòrèy ou, O fis a Tsippor!
19 God isn't a human being who would lie. He's not a mere mortal who changes his mind. Does he say he's going to do something but doesn't? Does he make promises he doesn't carry out?
Bondye se pa yon nonm ke li ye pou L ta bay manti, ni fis a yon nonm pou L ta repanti. Èske Li pa t pale, e èske Li p ap fè l vrè?
20 Look, I have been ordered to give a blessing. God has blessed, and I can't change that.
Gade byen, mwen te resevwa lòd pou beni. Lè se Li menm ki beni, alò, mwen p ap kab revoke sa.
21 He's not expecting anything bad will happen to Jacob; he doesn't foresee any trouble for Israel. The Lord their God is with them; they celebrate him as their king.
Li pa t wè malè nan Jacob, ni Li pa t wè twoub nan Israël. SENYÈ a, Bondye li a avè l, epi gran vwa a yon wa pami yo.
22 God led them out of Egypt with great power, as strong as an ox.
Bondye mennen yo sòti an Égypte. Li pou yo tankou kòn sou bèf mawon.
23 No spell can be cast against Jacob; no magic can be used against Israel. People will talk about Jacob and Israel, saying, ‘What amazing things God has done for them!’
Paske, nanpwen wanga kont Jacob, ni pa gen divinasyon kont Israël. Nan tan etabli a, li va pale a Jacob, e a Israël de sa Bondye te fè a!
24 Look! The Israelites go out hunting like a lioness; they chase like a lion. They don't rest until they eat their prey, and drink the blood of their dead victim.”
Gade byen, yon pèp ki leve tankou yon manman lyon, tankou yon lyon li leve li menm. Ni li p ap kouche jiskaske li fin devore viktim nan, pou l bwè san a sila li touye a.”
25 Then Balak said to Balaam, “If you can't give them any curses then at least don't give them any blessings!”
Alò, Balak te pale a Balaam: “Pa modi yo ditou, ni pa beni yo ditou!”
26 But Balaam replied, “Didn't I explain to you that I have to do whatever the Lord tells me?”
27 “Please come with me and I will take you somewhere else,” Balak said. “Maybe God would let you curse them for me from there.”
Alò Balak te di a Balaam: “Souple, vini; mwen va mennen ou yon lòt kote. Petèt li va agreyab a Bondye pou ou modi yo depi kote sa a.”
28 Balak took Balaam to the top of Mount Peor, which looks down on the wastelands.
Konsa, Balak te pran Balaam vè tèt mòn Peor ki domine tout dezè a.
29 Balaam told Balak, “Build seven altars for me here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me to sacrifice.”
30 Balak what Balaam told him, and he offered a bull and a ram on each altar.
Balak te fè jan ke Balaam te di a, e li te ofri yon towo avèk yon belye sou chak lotèl.
