Numbers 17
1 The Lord told Moses,
Le Seigneur parla encore à Moïse, disant:
2 “Tell the Israelites to bring twelve walking sticks, one from the leader of each tribe. Write the name of each man on the walking stick,
Parle aux enfants d’Israël, et prends d’eux des verges, une à une, selon leur parenté, de tous les princes des tribus, douze verges; et tu écriras le nom de chacun d’eux sur sa verge:
3 and write Aaron's name on the walking stick of the tribe of Levi, because there has to be a walking stick for the head of each tribe.
Mais le nom d’Aaron sera dans la tribu de Lévi, et chaque verge contiendra séparément toutes les familles;
4 Place the walking sticks in the Tent of Meeting in front of the Testimony where I meet with you.
Tu les déposeras dans le tabernacle d’alliance, devant le témoignage, où je te parlerai.
5 The walking stick that belongs to the man I choose will sprout buds, and I will put a stop to the Israelites' constant complaints against you.”
Celui d’entre eux que j’aurai choisi, c’est celui dont la verge fleurira: j’arrêterai ainsi les plaintes des enfants d’Israël qui les font murmurer contre vous.
6 Moses explained this to the Israelites, and each of their leaders gave him a walking stick, one for each of the leaders of their tribes. So there were twelve walking sticks including the one belonging to Aaron.
Et Moïse parla aux enfants d’Israël; et tous les princes lui donnèrent des verges, une par chaque tribu: ainsi il y eut douze verges sans la verge d’Aaron.
7 Moses placed the walking sticks before the Lord in the Tent of the Testimony.
Moïse les ayant déposées devant le Seigneur, dans le tabernacle du témoignage,
8 The next day Moses went into the Tent of the Testimony and saw that Aaron's walking stick that represented the tribe of Levi, had sprouted and developed buds, flowered and produced almonds.
Et, le Jour suivant, étant revenu, il trouva que la verge d’Aaron dans la famille de Lévi avait germé, et que des bourgeons s’étant développés, il était sorti des fleurs, qui, des feuilles s’étant ouvertes, s’étaient formées en amandes.
9 Moses took all the walking sticks from the presence of the Lord and showed them to all the Israelites. They saw them, and each man collected his own walking stick.
Moïse donc porta les verges de la présence du Seigneur à tous les enfants d’Israël; ils virent et reçurent chacun leur verge.
10 The Lord told Moses, “Put Aaron's walking stick back in front of the Testimony, to be kept there as a reminder to warn anyone who wants to rebel, so that you may stop their complaining against me. Otherwise they'll die.”
Or, le Seigneur dit à Moïse: Reporte la verge d’Aaron dans le tabernacle du témoignage, afin qu’elle y soit gardée comme un signe de la rébellion des enfants d’Israël, et que leurs plaintes se taisent devant moi, pour ne pas qu’ils meurent.
11 Moses did what the Lord ordered him to do.
Et Moïse fit, comme avait ordonné le Seigneur.
12 Then the Israelites came and told Moses, “Can't you see we're all going to die? We'll be destroyed! We're all going to be killed!
Mais les enfants d’Israël dirent à Moïse: Voici que nous sommes consumés et que tous nous périssons.
13 Anyone who dares to approach the Tabernacle of the Lord will die. Are we all going to be completely wiped out?”
Quiconque approche du tabernacle du Seigneur, meurt; est-ce jusqu’à une entière extermination, que nous devons être détruits?
