Nehemiah 4
1 When Sanballat found out that we were rebuilding the wall, he was furious—really mad! He made fun of the Jews
१जब सम्बल्लत ने सुना कि यहूदी लोग शहरपनाह को बना रहे हैं, तब उसने बुरा माना, और बहुत रिसियाकर यहूदियों को उपहास में उड़ाने लगा।
2 in front of his colleagues and the army of Samaria, saying, “What are these useless Jews trying to achieve? Do they think they can rebuild the wall? Are they going to offer sacrifices? Are they going to finish it in a day? Do they think they can re-use stones from piles of rubble and dirt, especially since they've all been burned?”
२वह अपने भाइयों के और सामरिया की सेना के सामने यह कहने लगा, “वे निर्बल यहूदी क्या करना चाहते हैं? क्या वे वह काम अपने बल से करेंगे? क्या वे अपना स्थान दृढ़ करेंगे? क्या वे यज्ञ करेंगे? क्या वे आज ही सब को निपटा डालेंगे? क्या वे मिट्टी के ढेरों में के जले हुए पत्थरों को फिर नये सिरे से बनाएँगे?”
3 Tobiah the Ammonite, standing beside him, commented, “Even a fox walking on what they're building would knock down their wall of stones!”
३उसके पास तो अम्मोनी तोबियाह था, और वह कहने लगा, “जो कुछ वे बना रहे हैं, यदि कोई गीदड़ भी उस पर चढ़े, तो वह उनकी बनाई हुई पत्थर की शहरपनाह को तोड़ देगा।”
4 I prayed, “Lord, please listen to us, because we are being treated with contempt. Rain down their insults on their own heads! Let them be taken away like plunder, prisoners in a foreign land!
४हे हमारे परमेश्वर सुन ले, कि हमारा अपमान हो रहा है; और उनका किया हुआ अपमान उन्हीं के सिर पर लौटा दे, और उन्हें बँधुआई के देश में लुटवा दे।
5 Don't forgive their guilt or blot out their sins, for they have made you angry in front of the builders.”
५और उनका अधर्म तू न ढाँप, और न उनका पाप तेरे सम्मुख से मिटाया जाए; क्योंकि उन्होंने तुझे शहरपनाह बनानेवालों के सामने क्रोध दिलाया है।
6 So we rebuilt the wall until it was all connected, reaching half its height, because the people were keen to work.
६हम लोगों ने शहरपनाह को बनाया; और सारी शहरपनाह आधी ऊँचाई तक जुड़ गई। क्योंकि लोगों का मन उस काम में नित लगा रहा।
7 When Sanballat and Tobiah, and the Arabs, Ammonites, and Ashdodites, heard that the repair to the walls of Jerusalem was progressing and that the gaps were being filled in, they were furious.
७जब सम्बल्लत और तोबियाह और अरबियों, अम्मोनियों और अश्दोदियों ने सुना, कि यरूशलेम की शहरपनाह की मरम्मत होती जाती है, और उसमें के नाके बन्द होने लगे हैं, तब उन्होंने बहुत ही बुरा माना;
8 They all plotted together to come and attack Jerusalem and to throw everything into confusion.
८और सभी ने एक मन से गोष्ठी की, कि जाकर यरूशलेम से लड़ें, और उसमें गड़बड़ी डालें।
9 So we prayed to our God, and we had guards ready to defend against them day and night.
९परन्तु हम लोगों ने अपने परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना की, और उनके डर के मारे उनके विरुद्ध दिन-रात के पहरुए ठहरा दिए।
10 Then people of Judah started grumbling, saying, “The workmen are exhausted. There's just too much rubble to clear. We'll never be able to finish the wall.”
१०परन्तु यहूदी कहने लगे, “ढोनेवालों का बल घट गया, और मिट्टी बहुत पड़ी है, इसलिए शहरपनाह हम से नहीं बन सकती।”
11 Our enemies were saying to themselves, “Before they know it, before they're aware of anything, we'll appear right in among them, kill them, and put a stop to what they're doing.”
११और हमारे शत्रु कहने लगे, “जब तक हम उनके बीच में न पहुँचे, और उन्हें घात करके वह काम बन्द न करें, तब तक उनको न कुछ मालूम होगा, और न कुछ दिखाई पड़ेगा।”
12 The Jews who lived close by came and told us over and over again, “They're going to attack us from all directions!”
१२फिर जो यहूदी उनके आस-पास रहते थे, उन्होंने सब स्थानों से दस बार आ आकर, हम लोगों से कहा, “तुम को हमारे पास लौट आना चाहिये।”
13 So I positioned defenders behind the lowest, most vulnerable sections, of the wall. I had them take their positions by families, armed with their swords, spears, and bows.
१३इस कारण मैंने लोगों को तलवारें, बर्छियाँ और धनुष देकर शहरपनाह के पीछे सबसे नीचे के खुले स्थानों में घराने-घराने के अनुसार बैठा दिया।
14 After inspecting our defenses, I stood up and addressed the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people, saying, “Don't be afraid of them! Remember the Lord, who is powerful and formidable! Fight for your brothers, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes!”
१४तब मैं देखकर उठा, और रईसों और हाकिमों और सब लोगों से कहा, “उनसे मत डरो; प्रभु जो महान और भययोग्य है, उसी को स्मरण करके, अपने भाइयों, बेटों, बेटियों, स्त्रियों और घरों के लिये युद्ध करना।”
15 When our enemies discovered that we knew about their plan, and that God had foiled it, we all went back to our work on the wall.
१५जब हमारे शत्रुओं ने सुना, कि यह बात हमको मालूम हो गई है और परमेश्वर ने उनकी युक्ति निष्फल की है, तब हम सब के सब शहरपनाह के पास अपने-अपने काम पर लौट गए।
16 From then on, half of my men were doing the work while the other half were ready to fight, holding their spears, shields, bows, and armor. The leaders stood behind all the people of Judah
१६और उस दिन से मेरे आधे सेवक तो उस काम में लगे रहे और आधे बर्छियों, तलवारों, धनुषों और झिलमों को धारण किए रहते थे; और यहूदा के सारे घराने के पीछे हाकिम रहा करते थे।
17 who were building the wall. Those carrying materials worked with one hand, holding a weapon in the other.
१७शहरपनाह को बनानेवाले और बोझ के ढोनेवाले दोनों भार उठाते थे, अर्थात् एक हाथ से काम करते थे और दूसरे हाथ से हथियार पकड़े रहते थे।
18 All the builders carried a sword strapped to their side, and the trumpeter stood beside me.
१८राजमिस्त्री अपनी-अपनी जाँघ पर तलवार लटकाए हुए बनाते थे। और नरसिंगे का फूँकनेवाला मेरे पास रहता था।
19 Then I told the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people: “We have a lot to do everywhere, so we're very spread out along the wall.
१९इसलिए मैंने रईसों, हाकिमों और सब लोगों से कहा, “काम तो बड़ा और फैला हुआ है, और हम लोग शहरपनाह पर अलग-अलग एक दूसरे से दूर रहते हैं।
20 Wherever you are and you hear the sound of the trumpet, run to join us there. Our God will fight for us!”
२०इसलिए जहाँ से नरसिंगा तुम्हें सुनाई दे, उधर ही हमारे पास इकट्ठे हो जाना। हमारा परमेश्वर हमारी ओर से लड़ेगा।”
21 We went on working, with half of the men holding spears from dawn until the stars came out.
२१अतः हम काम में लगे रहे, और उनमें आधे, पौ फटने से तारों के निकलने तक बर्छियाँ लिये रहते थे।
22 I also told the people, “Everyone including servants must spend the night inside Jerusalem, so they can be on guard duty at night and work during the day.”
२२फिर उसी समय मैंने लोगों से यह भी कहा, “एक-एक मनुष्य अपने दास समेत यरूशलेम के भीतर रात बिताया करे, कि वे रात को तो हमारी रखवाली करें, और दिन को काम में लगे रहें।”
23 During that time none of us changed our clothes—not me or my brothers or my men or the guards with me. Everyone carried their weapons at all times, even to go for water.
२३इस प्रकार न तो मैं अपने कपड़े उतारता था, और न मेरे भाई, न मेरे सेवक, न वे पहरुए जो मेरे अनुचर थे, अपने कपड़े उतारते थे; सब कोई पानी के पास भी हथियार लिये हुए जाते थे।
