Matthew 4
1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil.
Então Jesus foi levado pelo Espírito ao deserto para ser tentado pelo diabo.
2 After fasting forty days and nights, he was hungry.
E depois de jejuar quarenta dias e quarenta noites, teve fome.
3 The tempter came and said to him, “If you really are the Son of God, order these stones to turn into bread.”
E o tentador se aproximou, e disse-lhe: Se tu és o Filho de Deus, dize que estas pedras se tornem pães.
4 Jesus answered, “As Scripture says, ‘Human beings do not live by only eating bread, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Mas [Jesus] respondeu: Está escrito: Não só de pão viverá o ser humano, mas de toda palavra que sai da boca de Deus.
5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and placed him on the top of the Temple.
Então o diabo o levou consigo à santa cidade, e o pôs sobre o ponto mais alto do Templo,
6 “If you really are the son of God, then throw yourself off,” he told Jesus. “As Scripture says, ‘He will order his angels to save you from harm. They will catch you so that you won't fall by tripping over a stone.’”
E disse-lhe: Se tu és o Filho de Deus, lança-te abaixo, porque está escrito que: Mandará a seus anjos acerca de ti, e te tomarão pelas mãos, para que nunca com teu pé tropeces em pedra alguma.
7 Jesus answered, “As Scripture also says, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’”
Jesus lhe disse: Também está escrito: Não tentarás o Senhor teu Deus.
8 Then the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in all their glory.
Outra vez o diabo o levou consigo a um monte muito alto, e lhe mostrou todos os reinos do mundo, e a glória deles,
9 He said to Jesus, “I will give you all these if you fall down on your knees and worship me.”
E disse-lhe: Tudo isto te darei se, prostrado, me adorares.
10 “Go away, Satan!” said Jesus. “As Scripture says, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and serve him, and him alone.’”
Então Jesus disse: Vai embora, Satanás! Porque está escrito: Ao Senhor teu Deus adorarás, e só a ele cultuarás.
11 Then the devil left him, and angels came to care for him.
Então o diabo o deixou; e eis que chegaram anjos, e o serviram.
12 When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he returned to Galilee.
Mas quando [Jesus] ouviu que João estava preso, voltou para a Galileia.
13 Leaving Nazareth, he came to stay in Capernaum, on the shores of the sea in the regions of Zebulun and Naphthali.
E deixando Nazaré, veio a morar em Cafarnaum, [cidade] marítima, nos limites de Zebulom e Naftali,
14 This fulfilled what Isaiah the prophet said,
para que se cumprisse o que foi anunciado pelo profeta Isaías, que disse:
15 “In the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphthali, on the road to the sea, across the Jordan River, in Galilee where the foreigners live:
A terra de Zebulom e a terra de Naftali, caminho do mar, além do Jordão, a Galileia dos gentios;
16 The people living in darkness saw a great light; the light of dawn has shined on those living in the land of the shadow of death.”
O povo sentado em trevas viu uma grande luz; aos sentados em região e sombra da morte, a luz lhes apareceu.
17 From that time on Jesus began declaring his message, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has arrived!”
Desde então Jesus começou a pregar e a dizer: Arrependei-vos, porque perto está o Reino dos céus.
18 As he was walking by the sea of Galilee Jesus saw two brothers. Simon, also called Peter, and his brother Andrew, were casting a net in the sea. They made their living by catching fish.
Enquanto [Jesus] andava junto ao mar da Galileia, viu dois irmãos: Simão, chamado Pedro, e seu irmão André, lançarem a rede ao mar, porque eram pescadores.
19 “Come and follow me, and I will teach you how to catch people,” he told them.
E disse-lhes: Vinde após mim, e eu vos farei pescadores de gente.
20 They left their nets immediately and followed him.
Então eles logo deixaram as redes e o seguiram.
21 Continuing on he saw two other brothers, James and John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them to follow him.
E passando dali, viu outros dois irmãos: Tiago, [filho] de Zebedeu, e seu irmão João, em um barco, com seu pai Zebedeu, que estavam consertando suas redes; e ele os chamou.
22 They left the boat and their father immediately, and followed him.
E eles logo deixaram o barco e seu pai, e o seguiram.
23 Jesus traveled throughout Galilee, teaching in the synagogues, telling the good news of the kingdom, and healing all the diseases and illnesses the people had.
E [Jesus] rodeava toda a Galileia, ensinando em suas sinagogas, pregando o Evangelho do Reino, e curando toda enfermidade e toda doença no povo.
24 News about him spread throughout the province of Syria. They brought everyone who was sick to him: people troubled by seizures, the demon-possessed, those who were mentally ill, people who were paralyzed, and he healed all of them.
Sua fama corria por toda a Síria, e traziam-lhe todos que sofriam de algum mal, tendo diversas enfermidades e tormentos, e os endemoninhados, epiléticos, e paralíticos; e ele os curava.
25 Large crowds followed him from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and the region beyond Jordan.
E muitas multidões da Galileia, de Decápolis, de Jerusalém, da Judeia, e dalém do Jordão o seguiam.
