Matthew 26
1 After Jesus had said all this, he told his disciples,
এসব বিষয় বলা শেষ করার পর যীশু তাঁর শিষ্যদের বললেন,
2 “You know that it's Passover in two days time, and the Son of man will be handed over to be crucified.”
“তোমরা জানো, আর দু-দিন পরে নিস্তারপর্ব আসছে, তখন মনুষ্যপুত্রকে ক্রুশার্পিত করার জন্য সমর্পণ করা হবে।”
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the courtyard of Caiaphas, the high priest.
সেই সময় প্রধান যাজকেরা ও লোকেদের প্রাচীনবর্গ কায়াফা নামক মহাযাজকের প্রাসাদে সমবেত হল।
4 There they plotted to arrest Jesus on some deceitful pretext and kill him.
আর তারা কোনও ছলে যীশুকে গ্রেপ্তার করে হত্যা করার ষড়যন্ত্র করল।
5 But they said, “Let's not do this during the festival so that the people don't riot.”
তারা বলল, “কিন্তু পর্বের সময়ে নয়, তাতে লোকদের মধ্যে দাঙ্গা বেধে যেতে পারে।”
6 While Jesus was staying at Simon the leper's house in Bethany,
যীশু যখন বেথানিতে কুষ্ঠরোগী শিমোনের বাড়িতে ছিলেন,
7 a woman came over to him carrying an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume. She poured it on Jesus' head while he was sitting eating. But when the disciples saw what she did, they were upset.
তখন একজন নারী একটি শ্বেতস্ফটিকের পাত্রে বহুমূল্য সুগন্ধি তেল নিয়ে তাঁর কাছে এল। যীশু যখন টেবিলে হেলান দিয়ে বসেছিলেন, সেই নারী তাঁর মাথায় তা উপুড় করে ঢেলে দিল।
8 “What a terrible waste!” they objected.
শিষ্যেরা এই দেখে ভীষণ রুষ্ট হলেন। তাঁরা বললেন, “এই অপচয় কেন?
9 “This perfume could've been sold for a lot of money and given to the poor!”
এই সুগন্ধি তেল তো অনেক টাকায় বিক্রি করে দরিদ্রদের দান করা যেত!”
10 Jesus was aware of what was going on and told them, “Why are you upset with this woman? She's done something wonderful for me!
একথা শুনে যীশু তাঁদের বললেন, “তোমরা কেন এই মহিলাকে বিরক্ত করছ? সে তো আমার জন্য এক ভালো কাজই করেছে।
11 You'll always have the poor with you, but you won't always have me.
দরিদ্রেরা তোমাদের সঙ্গে সবসময়ই থাকবে, কিন্তু আমাকে তোমরা সবসময় পাবে না।
12 By pouring this perfume on my body she's prepared me for burial.
সে আমার শরীরে এই সুগন্ধি তেল ঢেলে আমাকে সমাধির উদ্দেশ্যে প্রস্তুত করল।
13 I tell you the truth: wherever in the world this good news is spread, the story of what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.”
আমি তোমাদের সত্যিই বলছি, সমস্ত জগতে যেখানেই এই সুসমাচার প্রচারিত হবে, সে যা করেছে, স্মৃতির উদ্দেশে তার সেই কাজের কথাও বলা হবে।”
14 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the chief priests
তখন সেই বারোজনের মধ্যে একজন, যে যিহূদা ইষ্কারিয়োৎ নামে আখ্যাত, সে প্রধান যাজকদের কাছে গিয়ে জিজ্ঞাসা করল,
15 and asked them, “How much will you pay me for betraying Jesus to you?” They paid him thirty silver coins.
“যীশুকে আপনাদের হাতে সমর্পণ করলে, আপনারা আমাকে কী দেবেন?” তারা তাকে ত্রিশটি রুপোর মুদ্রা গুনে দিল।
16 From then on he looked for an opportunity to betray Jesus.
সেই সময় থেকে যিহূদা তাঁকে তাদের হাতে তুলে দেওয়ার সুযোগ খুঁজতে লাগল।
17 On the first day of the festival of unleavened bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked him, “Where do you want us to prepare the Passover meal for you to eat?”
খামিরবিহীন রুটির পর্বের প্রথম দিনে, শিষ্যেরা যীশুর কাছে এসে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “নিস্তারপর্বের ভোজ গ্রহণের প্রস্তুতি আমরা কোথায় করব?”
18 Jesus told them, “Go into the city and find this particular man, and tell him that the Teacher says, ‘My time is approaching. I'm coming to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.’”
তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, “তোমরা নগরে জনৈক ব্যক্তির কাছে যাও ও তাকে বলো, ‘গুরুমহাশয় বলছেন, আমার জন্য নির্ধারিত সময় এসে গেছে। আমি তোমার গৃহে আমার শিষ্যদের নিয়ে নিস্তারপর্বের ভোজ গ্রহণ করতে চাই।’”
19 The disciples did as Jesus told them, and prepared the Passover meal there.
তাই শিষ্যেরা যীশুর নির্দেশমতো কাজ করলেন ও গিয়ে নিস্তারপর্বের ভোজ প্রস্তুত করলেন।
20 When evening came he sat down to eat with the Twelve.
সন্ধ্যা হলে, যীশু সেই বারোজনের সঙ্গে ভোজের টেবিলে হেলান দিয়ে বসলেন।
21 While they were eating he told them, “I tell you the truth: one of you is going to betray me.”
তারা খাওয়াদাওয়া করছেন, এমন সময়ে যীশু বললেন, “আমি তোমাদের সত্যিই বলছি, তোমাদের মধ্যে একজন আমার সঙ্গে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করবে।”
22 They were extremely upset. One after the other they asked him, “Lord, it's not me, is it?”
তাঁরা ভীষণ দুঃখিত হলেন ও একের পর এক তাঁকে বললেন, “প্রভু, সে নিশ্চয়ই আমি নই?”
23 “The one who's dipped his hand into the dish with me will betray me,” Jesus replied.
যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “যে আমার সঙ্গে খাবারের পাত্রে হাত ডুবালো, সেই আমার সঙ্গে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করবে।
24 “The Son of man will die just as it was prophesied about him, but what a disaster it will be for the man who betrays the Son of man! It would be better for that man if he'd never been born!”
মনুষ্যপুত্রের বিষয়ে যে রকম লেখা আছে, তেমনই তিনি চলে যাবেন, কিন্তু ধিক্ সেই ব্যক্তিকে, যে মনুষ্যপুত্রের সঙ্গে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করবে! তার জন্ম না হলেই বরং তার পক্ষে ভালো হত।”
25 Judas, the one who would betray Jesus, asked “It's not me, is it, Rabbi?” “You said it,” Jesus replied.
তখন, যে তাঁর সঙ্গে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করবে, সেই যিহূদা বলল, “রব্বি, সে নিশ্চয়ই আমি নই?” যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “হ্যাঁ, তুমিই সে।”
26 While they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it and gave pieces to the disciples. “Take and eat this for it is my body,” said Jesus.
তাঁরা যখন আহার করছিলেন, যীশু রুটি নিলেন, ধন্যবাদ দিলেন ও তা ভাঙলেন। আর তিনি তাঁর শিষ্যদের দিলেন ও বললেন, “তোমরা নাও, এবং ভোজন করো; এ আমার শরীর।”
27 Then he picked up the cup, blessed it, and gave it to them. “Drink from it, all of you,” he told them.
তারপর তিনি পানপাত্র নিলেন, ধন্যবাদ দিলেন ও শিষ্যদের তা দিয়ে বললেন, “তোমরা সবাই এর থেকে পান করো।
28 “For this is my blood of the agreement, poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
এ আমার রক্ত, সেই নতুন নিয়মের রক্ত, যা পাপক্ষমার উদ্দেশ্যে অনেকের জন্য পাতিত হচ্ছে।
29 However, I tell you, I won't drink this fruit of the vine until the day I drink it new with you in the kingdom of my Father.”
আমি তোমাদের বলছি, এখন থেকে আমি এই দ্রাক্ষারস আর কখনও পান করব না, যতদিন না আমি আমার পিতার রাজ্যে তোমাদের সঙ্গে নতুন দ্রাক্ষারস পান করি।”
30 After they'd sung a song, they left for the Mount of Olives.
পরে তাঁরা একটি গান করে সেখান থেকে বের হয়ে জলপাই পর্বতে গেলেন।
31 “All of you will abandon me tonight,” Jesus told them. “As Scripture says, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the flock of sheep will be completely scattered.’
তারপর যীশু তাঁদের বললেন, “এই রাত্রিতে তোমরা সবাই আমাকে ছেড়ে চলে যাবে, কারণ এরকম লেখা আছে, “‘আমি পালরক্ষককে আঘাত করব, তাতে পালের মেষেরা ছিন্নভিন্ন হয়ে যাবে।’
32 But after I have risen, I'll go ahead of you to Galilee.”
কিন্তু আমি উত্থিত হলে পর, আমি তোমাদের আগেই গালীলে পৌঁছাব।”
33 But Peter objected, “Even if everyone else abandons you, I'll never abandon you.”
পিতর উত্তর দিলেন, “সবাই আপনাকে ছেড়ে চলে গেলেও, আমি কিন্তু কখনও যাব না।”
34 “I'm telling you the truth,” Jesus told him, “This very night, before the cock crows, you'll deny me three times.”
প্রত্যুত্তরে যীশু বললেন, “আমি তোমাকে সত্যিই বলছি, আজ রাত্রে, মোরগ ডাকার আগেই, তুমি তিনবার আমাকে অস্বীকার করবে।”
35 “Even if I have to die with you, I'll never deny you!” Peter insisted. And all the disciples said the same thing.
কিন্তু পিতর তাঁকে বললেন, “আপনার সঙ্গে যদি আমাকে মৃত্যুবরণও করতে হয়, তাহলেও আমি আপনাকে কখনোই অস্বীকার করব না।” অন্য সব শিষ্যও একই কথা বললেন।
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane. He told them, “Sit down here while I go over there and pray.”
তারপর যীশু তাঁর শিষ্যদের সঙ্গে গেৎশিমানি নামে এক স্থানে গেলেন। তিনি তাদের বললেন, “আমি যতক্ষণ ওখানে প্রার্থনা করি তোমরা ততক্ষণ এখানে বসে থাকো।”
37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with him, and he began to suffer agonizing sorrow and distress.
তিনি পিতর ও সিবদিয়ের দুই পুত্রকে তাঁর সঙ্গে নিলেন। তিনি ক্রমেই দুঃখার্ত ও ব্যাকুল হতে লাগলেন।
38 Then he said to them, “I am so overwhelmed with sadness that it's killing me. Wait here and keep watch with me.”
তারপর তিনি তাঁদের বললেন, “আমার প্রাণ মৃত্যু পর্যন্ত দুঃখার্ত হয়েছে। তোমরা এখানে থাকো, এবং আমার সঙ্গে জেগে থাকো।”
39 He went a little farther forward, fell face down, and prayed. “My Father, please, if it's possible, let this cup of suffering be taken from me,” Jesus asked. “Even so, may it not be what I want but what you want.”
আরও কিছু দূর এগিয়ে, তিনি ভূমিতে উবুড় হয়ে প্রার্থনা করলেন, “পিতা, যদি সম্ভব হয়, এই পানপাত্র আমার কাছ থেকে দূর করে দাও। তবুও আমার ইচ্ছামতো নয়, কিন্তু তোমারই ইচ্ছামতো হোক।”
40 He went back to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter, “What, you couldn't stay awake with me for just one hour?
তারপর তিনি শিষ্যদের কাছে ফিরে এসে দেখলেন, তাঁরা ঘুমিয়ে পড়েছেন। তিনি পিতরকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “তোমরা কি এক ঘণ্টাও আমার সঙ্গে জেগে থাকতে পারলে না?
41 Stay awake and pray, so that you don't fall into temptation. Yes, the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
জেগে থাকো ও প্রার্থনা করো, যেন তোমরা প্রলোভনে না পড়ো। আত্মা ইচ্ছুক, কিন্তু শরীর দুর্বল।”
42 He went away a second time and prayed. “My Father, if this cup cannot be taken from me without me drinking from it, then your will be done,” he said.
তিনি দ্বিতীয়বার গিয়ে প্রার্থনা করলেন, “পিতা আমার, আমি পান না করলে যদি এই পাত্র দূর না হয়, তাহলে তোমার ইচ্ছাই পূর্ণ হোক।”
43 He went back and found them sleeping, for they just couldn't stay awake.
যখন তিনি ফিরে এলেন, তিনি আবার তাঁদের ঘুমাতে দেখলেন, কারণ তাঁদের চোখের পাতা ভারী হয়ে উঠেছিল।
44 So he left them once more, and went off and prayed a third time, repeating the same things.
তাই তিনি পুনরায় তাদের ছেড়ে এগিয়ে গেলেন ও একই কথা বলে তৃতীয়বার প্রার্থনা করলেন।
45 Then he returned to the disciples, and told them, “How can you still be sleeping and resting? Look, the time has come. The Son of man is about to be betrayed into the hands of sinners!
তারপর তিনি শিষ্যদের কাছে ফিরে গিয়ে বললেন, “তোমরা কি এখনও ঘুমিয়ে আছ ও বিশ্রাম করছ? দেখো, সময় হয়েছে। মনুষ্যপুত্রকে পাপীদের হাতে ধরিয়ে দেওয়া হচ্ছে।
46 Get up, let's go! See, the one who's betraying me has arrived.”
ওঠো, চলো আমরা যাই! দেখো, আমার বিশ্বাসঘাতক এসে পড়েছে!”
47 As he said this, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived with a large mob armed with swords and clubs sent by the chief priests and elders of the people.
তিনি তখনও কথা বলছেন সেই সময় বারোজনের অন্যতম যিহূদা সেখানে এসে উপস্থিত হল। তার সঙ্গে ছিল একদল সশস্ত্র লোক, তাদের হাতে ছিল তরোয়াল ও লাঠিসোঁটা। প্রধান যাজকেরা ও লোকসমূহের প্রাচীনবর্গ তাদের পাঠিয়েছিল।
48 The betrayer had arranged to give them a signal: “The one that I kiss, that's him—arrest him,” he'd told them.
সেই বিশ্বাসঘাতক তাদের এই সংকেত দিয়ে রেখেছিল, “যাকে আমি চুম্বন করব, সেই ওই ব্যক্তি; তাকে গ্রেপ্তার কোরো।”
49 Judas came up to Jesus immediately, and said, “Hello, Rabbi,” and kissed him.
সেই মুহূর্তেই যীশুর কাছে গিয়ে যিহূদা বলল, “রব্বি, নমস্কার!” আর তাঁকে চুম্বন করল।
50 “My friend, do what you came to do,” Jesus said to Judas. So they came and grabbed hold of Jesus, and arrested him.
যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “বন্ধু, যা করতে এসেছ, তুমি তাই করো।” তখন সেই লোকেরা এগিয়ে এসে যীশুকে ধরল ও তাঁকে গ্রেপ্তার করল।
51 One of those who was with Jesus reached for his sword and pulled it out. He struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his ear.
তাই দেখে যীশুর সঙ্গীদের একজন তাঁর তরোয়াল বের করে মহাযাজকের দাসকে আঘাত করে তার কান কেটে ফেললেন।
52 But Jesus told him, “Put your sword away. Everyone who fights with the sword will die by the sword.
যীশু তাঁকে বললেন, “তোমার তরোয়াল পুনরায় স্বস্থানে রাখো, কারণ যারাই তরোয়াল ধারণ করে তারাই তরোয়ালের দ্বারা মৃত্যুবরণ করবে।
53 Don't you think I could ask my Father, and he'd immediately send more than twelve legions of angels?
তুমি কি মনে করো? আমি কি আমার পিতাকে ডাকতে পারি না, আর তিনি সঙ্গে সঙ্গে কি আমার অধীনে বারোটি বাহিনীরও বেশি দূত পাঠিয়ে দেবেন না?
54 But then how could the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must be like this?”
তাহলে শাস্ত্রবাণী কীভাবে পূর্ণ হবে, যা বলে যে, এসব এভাবেই ঘটবে?”
55 Then Jesus told the mob, “Have you come with swords and clubs to arrest me as if I was some kind of dangerous criminal? Every day I sat in the Temple teaching and you didn't arrest me then.
সেই সময় যীশু লোকদের বললেন, “আমি কি কোনও বিদ্রোহের নেতৃত্ব দিচ্ছি যে, তোমরা তরোয়াল ও লাঠিসোঁটা নিয়ে আমাকে ধরতে এসেছ? প্রতিদিন আমি মন্দির চত্বরে বসে শিক্ষা দিয়েছি, তখন তো তোমরা আমাকে গ্রেপ্তার করোনি।
56 But all this is happening to fulfill what the prophets wrote.” Then all the disciples abandoned him and ran away.
কিন্তু এ সমস্ত এজন্যই ঘটছে, যেন ভাববাদীদের লিখিত বচনগুলি পূর্ণ হয়।” তখন সব শিষ্য তাঁকে ত্যাগ করে পালিয়ে গেলেন।
57 Those who'd arrested Jesus took him to the home of Caiaphas, the high priest, where the religious teachers and elders had gathered.
যারা যীশুকে গ্রেপ্তার করেছিল, তারা তাঁকে মহাযাজক কায়াফার কাছে নিয়ে গেল। সেখানে সব শাস্ত্রবিদ ও লোকদের প্রাচীনবর্গ সমবেত হয়েছিল।
58 Peter followed him at a distance, and went into the high priest's courtyard. He sat there with the guards to see how things would end.
কিন্তু পিতর দূর থেকে, মহাযাজকের উঠান পর্যন্ত যীশুকে অনুসরণ করলেন। তিনি প্রবেশ করে শেষ পর্যন্ত কী হয়, তা দেখার জন্য রক্ষীদের কাছে গিয়ে বসলেন।
59 The chief priests and the whole council were trying to find some false evidence against Jesus so they could put him to death.
প্রধান যাজকেরা ও সমস্ত মহাসভা যীশুকে মৃত্যুদণ্ড দেওয়ার জন্য তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে মিথ্যা সাক্ষ্য-প্রমাণ খুঁজছিল।
60 But they couldn't find anything, even though many false witnesses came forward. Eventually two came forward
বহু মিথ্যাসাক্ষী এগিয়ে এলেও তারা সেরকম কিছুই পেল না। শেষে দুজন এগিয়ে
61 and reported, “This man said, ‘I can destroy God's Temple, and rebuild it in three days.’”
এসে বলল, “এই লোকটি বলেছিল, ‘আমি ঈশ্বরের মন্দির ভেঙে ফেলতে ও তিনদিনের মধ্যে তা পুনর্নির্মাণ করতে পারি।’”
62 The high priest stood up and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer? What do you have to say in your defense?”
তখন মহাযাজক উঠে দাঁড়িয়ে যীশুকে বললেন, “তুমি কি উত্তর দেবে না? এই লোকেরা তোমার বিরুদ্ধে যেসব অভিযোগ নিয়ে এসেছে, এগুলি কী?”
63 But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to Jesus, “In the name of the living God I place you under oath. Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”
যীশু তবুও নীরব রইলেন। মহাযাজক তাঁকে বললেন, “আমি জীবন্ত ঈশ্বরের নামে শপথ করে তোমাকে অভিযুক্ত করছি: আমাদের বলো দেখি, তুমিই কি সেই খ্রীষ্ট, ঈশ্বরের পুত্র?”
64 “You said it,” Jesus replied. “And I also tell you that in the future you'll see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the Almighty, and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “হ্যাঁ, ঠিক তাই, যেমন তুমি বলেছ। কিন্তু আমি তোমাদের সবাইকে বলছি: ভাবীকালে তোমরা মনুষ্যপুত্রকে সেই সর্বশক্তিমান ঈশ্বরের ডানদিকে বসে থাকতে ও স্বর্গের মেঘে করে আসতে দেখবে।”
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes, and said, “He's speaking blasphemy! Why do we need any witnesses? Look, now you've heard for yourselves his blasphemy!
তখন মহাযাজক তাঁর কাপড় ছিঁড়ে ফেলে বললেন, “ও ঈশ্বরনিন্দা করেছে! আমাদের আর সাক্ষ্য-প্রমাণের কী প্রয়োজন? দেখো, এখন তোমরা ঈশ্বরনিন্দা শুনলে।
66 What's your verdict?” “Guilty! He deserves to die!” they answered.
তোমাদের অভিমত কী?” তারা উত্তর দিল, “ও মৃত্যুরই যোগ্য।”
67 Then they spat in his face and beat him. Some of them slapped him with their hands,
তারা তখন তাঁর মুখে থুতু দিল ও তাঁকে ঘুসি মারল।
68 and said, “Prophesy to us, you ‘Messiah’! Who just hit you?”
অন্যেরা তাঁকে চড় মেরে বলতে লাগল, “ওরে খ্রীষ্ট, আমাদের কাছে ভাববাণী বল দেখি, কে তোকে মারল?”
69 Meanwhile Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A servant girl came up to him, and said, “You were with Jesus the Galilean too!”
সেই সময় পিতর বাইরের উঠানে বসেছিলেন। একজন দাসী তাঁর কাছে এসে বলল, “তুমিও সেই গালীলীয় যীশুর সঙ্গে ছিলে।”
70 But he denied it in front of everyone. “I don't know what you're talking about,” he said.
কিন্তু তিনি তাদের সবার সামনে সেকথা অস্বীকার করলেন। তিনি বললেন, “আমি জানি না, তুমি কী বলছ।”
71 When he went back to the courtyard entrance another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This man was with Jesus of Nazareth.”
তখন তিনি ফটকের কাছে গেলেন। সেখানে অন্য একজন দাসী তাঁকে দেখে, সেখানকার লোকজনকে বলল, “এই লোকটিও নাসরতীয় যীশুর সঙ্গে ছিল।”
72 Once again he denied it, saying with an oath, “I don't know him.”
তিনি শপথ করে আবার তা অস্বীকার করলেন, বললেন, “আমি ওই মানুষটিকে চিনি না!”
73 A little while later the people standing there came up to Peter and said, “You definitely are one of them. Your accent gives you away.”
আরও কিছুক্ষণ পরে, যারা সেখানে দাঁড়িয়েছিল, তারা পিতরের কাছে গিয়ে বলল, “নিশ্চিতরূপে তুমি তাদেরই একজন, কারণ তোমার উচ্চারণভঙ্গিই তা প্রকাশ করছে।”
74 Then he started to swear: “Curses on me if I'm a liar! I don't know the man!” Immediately the cock crowed.
তখন তিনি নিজের উপরে অভিশাপ ডেকে এনে তাদের কাছে শপথ করে বললেন, “আমি ওই মানুষটিকে চিনিই না!” সেই মুহূর্তে একটি মোরগ ডেকে উঠল।
75 Then Peter remembered what Jesus had told him: “Before the cock crows, three times you will deny knowing me.” He went outside and wept bitterly.
তখন যীশু যে কথা বলেছিলেন, তা পিতরের মনে পড়ল, “মোরগ ডাকার পূর্বে তুমি তিনবার আমাকে অস্বীকার করবে।” আর তিনি বাইরে গিয়ে খুব কাঁদতে লাগলেন।
