Matthew 22
1 Jesus spoke to them using more illustrated stories.
ਅਨਨ੍ਤਰੰ ਯੀਸ਼ੁਃ ਪੁਨਰਪਿ ਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼਼੍ਟਾਨ੍ਤੇਨ ਤਾਨ੍ ਅਵਾਦੀਤ੍,
2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who organized a wedding celebration for his son,” Jesus explained.
ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗੀਯਰਾਜ੍ਯਮ੍ ਏਤਾਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ਸ੍ਯ ਨ੍ਰੁʼਪਤੇਃ ਸਮੰ, ਯੋ ਨਿਜ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੰ ਵਿਵਾਹਯਨ੍ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਾਨ੍ ਨਿਮਨ੍ਤ੍ਰਿਤਾਨ੍ ਆਨੇਤੁੰ ਦਾਸੇਯਾਨ੍ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਤਵਾਨ੍,
3 “He sent out his servants to everyone who was invited to the wedding to tell them to come, but they refused.
ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਤੇ ਸਮਾਗਨ੍ਤੁੰ ਨੇਸ਼਼੍ਟਵਨ੍ਤਃ|
4 So he sent out more servants, with the instructions, ‘Tell those who are invited that I've prepared the wedding banquet. The bulls and fattened calves have been killed—everything's ready. So come to the wedding!’
ਤਤੋ ਰਾਜਾ ਪੁਨਰਪਿ ਦਾਸਾਨਨ੍ਯਾਨ੍ ਇਤ੍ਯੁਕ੍ਤ੍ਵਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਸ਼਼ਯਾਮਾਸ, ਨਿਮਨ੍ਤ੍ਰਿਤਾਨ੍ ਵਦਤ, ਪਸ਼੍ਯਤ, ਮਮ ਭੇਜ੍ਯਮਾਸਾਦਿਤਮਾਸ੍ਤੇ, ਨਿਜਵ੍ਟਸ਼਼ਾਦਿਪੁਸ਼਼੍ਟਜਨ੍ਤੂਨ੍ ਮਾਰਯਿਤ੍ਵਾ ਸਰ੍ੱਵੰ ਖਾਦ੍ਯਦ੍ਰਵ੍ਯਮਾਸਾਦਿਤਵਾਨ੍, ਯੂਯੰ ਵਿਵਾਹਮਾਗੱਛਤ|
5 But they ignored the invitation and left. One went to his fields; another to take care of his business.
ਤਥਪਿ ਤੇ ਤੁੱਛੀਕ੍ਰੁʼਤ੍ਯ ਕੇਚਿਤ੍ ਨਿਜਕ੍ਸ਼਼ੇਤ੍ਰੰ ਕੇਚਿਦ੍ ਵਾਣਿਜ੍ਯੰ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਸ੍ਵਸ੍ਵਮਾਰ੍ਗੇਣ ਚਲਿਤਵਨ੍ਤਃ|
6 The rest grabbed the king's servants, mistreated them, and killed them.
ਅਨ੍ਯੇ ਲੋਕਾਸ੍ਤਸ੍ਯ ਦਾਸੇਯਾਨ੍ ਧ੍ਰੁʼਤ੍ਵਾ ਦੌਰਾਤ੍ਮ੍ਯੰ ਵ੍ਯਵਹ੍ਰੁʼਤ੍ਯ ਤਾਨਵਧਿਸ਼਼ੁਃ|
7 The king became furious. He sent his soldiers to destroy those murderers and burn down their town.
ਅਨਨ੍ਤਰੰ ਸ ਨ੍ਰੁʼਪਤਿਸ੍ਤਾਂ ਵਾਰ੍ੱਤਾਂ ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤ੍ਵਾ ਕ੍ਰੁਧ੍ਯਨ੍ ਸੈਨ੍ਯਾਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਤ੍ਯ ਤਾਨ੍ ਘਾਤਕਾਨ੍ ਹਤ੍ਵਾ ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਨਗਰੰ ਦਾਹਯਾਮਾਸ|
8 Then the king said to his servants, ‘The wedding banquet is ready, but those who were invited didn't deserve to attend.
ਤਤਃ ਸ ਨਿਜਦਾਸੇਯਾਨ੍ ਬਭਾਸ਼਼ੇ, ਵਿਵਾਹੀਯੰ ਭੋਜ੍ਯਮਾਸਾਦਿਤਮਾਸ੍ਤੇ, ਕਿਨ੍ਤੁ ਨਿਮਨ੍ਤ੍ਰਿਤਾ ਜਨਾ ਅਯੋਗ੍ਯਾਃ|
9 Go into the streets and invite everyone you find to come to the wedding.’
ਤਸ੍ਮਾਦ੍ ਯੂਯੰ ਰਾਜਮਾਰ੍ਗੰ ਗਤ੍ਵਾ ਯਾਵਤੋ ਮਨੁਜਾਨ੍ ਪਸ਼੍ਯਤ, ਤਾਵਤਏਵ ਵਿਵਾਹੀਯਭੋਜ੍ਯਾਯ ਨਿਮਨ੍ਤ੍ਰਯਤ|
10 So the servants went out into the streets and brought back everyone they could find, both the good and the bad. The wedding hall was full.
ਤਦਾ ਤੇ ਦਾਸੇਯਾ ਰਾਜਮਾਰ੍ਗੰ ਗਤ੍ਵਾ ਭਦ੍ਰਾਨ੍ ਅਭਦ੍ਰਾਨ੍ ਵਾ ਯਾਵਤੋ ਜਨਾਨ੍ ਦਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ੁਃ, ਤਾਵਤਏਵ ਸੰਗ੍ਰੁʼਹ੍ਯਾਨਯਨ੍; ਤਤੋ(ਅ)ਭ੍ਯਾਗਤਮਨੁਜੈ ਰ੍ਵਿਵਾਹਗ੍ਰੁʼਹਮ੍ ਅਪੂਰ੍ੱਯਤ|
11 But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who didn't have a wedding robe on.
ਤਦਾਨੀਂ ਸ ਰਾਜਾ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਾਨਭ੍ਯਾਗਤਾਨ੍ ਦ੍ਰਸ਼਼੍ਟੁਮ੍ ਅਭ੍ਯਨ੍ਤਰਮਾਗਤਵਾਨ੍; ਤਦਾ ਤਤ੍ਰ ਵਿਵਾਹੀਯਵਸਨਹੀਨਮੇਕੰ ਜਨੰ ਵੀਕ੍ਸ਼਼੍ਯ ਤੰ ਜਗਾਦ੍,
12 He asked him, ‘My friend, how did you get in here without a wedding robe?’ The man had nothing to say.
ਹੇ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ, ਤ੍ਵੰ ਵਿਵਾਹੀਯਵਸਨੰ ਵਿਨਾ ਕਥਮਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਟਵਾਨ੍? ਤੇਨ ਸ ਨਿਰੁੱਤਰੋ ਬਭੂਵ|
13 Then the king told his servants, ‘Bind his hands and feet, and throw him out into the dark, where there'll be crying and grinding of teeth.’
ਤਦਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਨਿਜਾਨੁਚਰਾਨ੍ ਅਵਦਤ੍, ਏਤਸ੍ਯ ਕਰਚਰਣਾਨ੍ ਬੱਧਾ ਯਤ੍ਰ ਰੋਦਨੰ ਦਨ੍ਤੈਰ੍ਦਨ੍ਤਘਰ੍ਸ਼਼ਣਞ੍ਚ ਭਵਤਿ, ਤਤ੍ਰ ਵਹਿਰ੍ਭੂਤਤਮਿਸ੍ਰੇ ਤੰ ਨਿਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਿਪਤ|
14 For many are invited, but few are chosen.”
ਇੱਥੰ ਬਹਵ ਆਹੂਤਾ ਅਲ੍ਪੇ ਮਨੋਭਿਮਤਾਃ|
15 Then the Pharisees left and met together to plot how they could trap him by what he said.
ਅਨਨ੍ਤਰੰ ਫਿਰੂਸ਼ਿਨਃ ਪ੍ਰਗਤ੍ਯ ਯਥਾ ਸੰਲਾਪੇਨ ਤਮ੍ ਉਨ੍ਮਾਥੇ ਪਾਤਯੇਯੁਸ੍ਤਥਾ ਮਨ੍ਤ੍ਰਯਿਤ੍ਵਾ
16 They sent their disciples to him, together with some of Herod's supporters. “Teacher, we know you are a honest man, and that you teach God's way is the truth,” they began. “You don't allow yourself to be influenced by anyone, and you don't care about rank or status.
ਹੇਰੋਦੀਯਮਨੁਜੈਃ ਸਾਕੰ ਨਿਜਸ਼ਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਗਣੇਨ ਤੰ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਕਥਯਾਮਾਸੁਃ, ਹੇ ਗੁਰੋ, ਭਵਾਨ੍ ਸਤ੍ਯਃ ਸਤ੍ਯਮੀਸ਼੍ਵਰੀਯਮਾਰ੍ਗਮੁਪਦਿਸ਼ਤਿ, ਕਮਪਿ ਮਾਨੁਸ਼਼ੰ ਨਾਨੁਰੁਧ੍ਯਤੇ, ਕਮਪਿ ਨਾਪੇਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਤੇ ਚ, ਤਦ੍ ਵਯੰ ਜਾਨੀਮਃ|
17 So let us know your opinion. Is it right to pay Caesar's taxes, or not?”
ਅਤਃ ਕੈਸਰਭੂਪਾਯ ਕਰੋ(ਅ)ਸ੍ਮਾਕੰ ਦਾਤਵ੍ਯੋ ਨ ਵਾ? ਅਤ੍ਰ ਭਵਤਾ ਕਿੰ ਬੁਧ੍ਯਤੇ? ਤਦ੍ ਅਸ੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਵਦਤੁ|
18 Jesus knew their motives were evil. He asked them, “Why are you trying to trap me, you hypocrites?
ਤਤੋ ਯੀਸ਼ੁਸ੍ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਖਲਤਾਂ ਵਿਜ੍ਞਾਯ ਕਥਿਤਵਾਨ੍, ਰੇ ਕਪਟਿਨਃ ਯੁਯੰ ਕੁਤੋ ਮਾਂ ਪਰਿਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਧ੍ਵੇ?
19 Show me the coin that is used to pay the tax.” They brought a denarius coin to him.
ਤਤ੍ਕਰਦਾਨਸ੍ਯ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾਂ ਮਾਂ ਦਰ੍ਸ਼ਯਤ| ਤਦਾਨੀਂ ਤੈਸ੍ਤਸ੍ਯ ਸਮੀਪੰ ਮੁਦ੍ਰਾਚਤੁਰ੍ਥਭਾਗ ਆਨੀਤੇ
20 “Whose image and whose title is inscribed here?” he asked them.
ਸ ਤਾਨ੍ ਪਪ੍ਰੱਛ, ਅਤ੍ਰ ਕਸ੍ਯੇਯੰ ਮੂਰ੍ੱਤਿ ਰ੍ਨਾਮ ਚਾਸ੍ਤੇ? ਤੇ ਜਗਦੁਃ, ਕੈਸਰਭੂਪਸ੍ਯ|
21 “Caesar's,” they replied. “You should give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God,” he told them.
ਤਤਃ ਸ ਉਕ੍ਤਵਾਨ, ਕੈਸਰਸ੍ਯ ਯਤ੍ ਤਤ੍ ਕੈਸਰਾਯ ਦੱਤ, ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਯਤ੍ ਤਦ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰਾਯ ਦੱਤ|
22 When they heard Jesus' answer they were stunned. They went away and left him.
ਇਤਿ ਵਾਕ੍ਯੰ ਨਿਸ਼ਮ੍ਯ ਤੇ ਵਿਸ੍ਮਯੰ ਵਿਜ੍ਞਾਯ ਤੰ ਵਿਹਾਯ ਚਲਿਤਵਨ੍ਤਃ|
23 Later the same day some Sadducees came to see him. (They are the ones who say there's no resurrection.)
ਤਸ੍ਮਿੰਨਹਨਿ ਸਿਦੂਕਿਨੋ(ਅ)ਰ੍ਥਾਤ੍ ਸ਼੍ਮਸ਼ਾਨਾਤ੍ ਨੋੱਥਾਸ੍ਯਨ੍ਤੀਤਿ ਵਾਕ੍ਯੰ ਯੇ ਵਦਨ੍ਤਿ, ਤੇ ਯੀਸ਼ੇਰਨ੍ਤਿਕਮ੍ ਆਗਤ੍ਯ ਪਪ੍ਰੱਛੁਃ,
24 They asked him, “Teacher, Moses said that if a married man dies without having children, his brother should marry his widow and have children on behalf of his brother.
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੋ, ਕਸ਼੍ਚਿਨ੍ਮਨੁਜਸ਼੍ਚੇਤ੍ ਨਿਃਸਨ੍ਤਾਨਃ ਸਨ੍ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਨ੍ ਤ੍ਯਜਤਿ, ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਜਾਯਾਂ ਵ੍ਯੁਹ੍ਯ ਭ੍ਰਾਤੁਃ ਸਨ੍ਤਾਨਮ੍ ਉਤ੍ਪਾਦਯਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਤੀਤਿ ਮੂਸਾ ਆਦਿਸ਼਼੍ਟਵਾਨ੍|
25 Well, once there were seven brothers here with us. The first married, and died, and since he had no children he left his widow to his brother.
ਕਿਨ੍ਤ੍ਵਸ੍ਮਾਕਮਤ੍ਰ ਕੇ(ਅ)ਪਿ ਜਨਾਃ ਸਪ੍ਤਸਹੋਦਰਾ ਆਸਨ੍, ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਜ੍ਯੇਸ਼਼੍ਠ ਏਕਾਂ ਕਨ੍ਯਾਂ ਵ੍ਯਵਹਾਤ੍, ਅਪਰੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣਤ੍ਯਾਗਕਾਲੇ ਸ੍ਵਯੰ ਨਿਃਸਨ੍ਤਾਨਃ ਸਨ੍ ਤਾਂ ਸ੍ਤ੍ਰਿਯੰ ਸ੍ਵਭ੍ਰਾਤਰਿ ਸਮਰ੍ਪਿਤਵਾਨ੍,
26 The same thing happened to the second and third husband, right up to the seventh.
ਤਤੋ ਦ੍ਵਿਤੀਯਾਦਿਸਪ੍ਤਮਾਨ੍ਤਾਸ਼੍ਚ ਤਥੈਵ ਚਕ੍ਰੁਃ|
27 In the end the woman died too.
ਸ਼ੇਸ਼਼ੇ ਸਾਪੀ ਨਾਰੀ ਮਮਾਰ|
28 So when the resurrection takes place, whose wife of the seven brothers will she be, for she married all of them?”
ਮ੍ਰੁʼਤਾਨਾਮ੍ ਉੱਥਾਨਸਮਯੇ ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਂ ਸਪ੍ਤਾਨਾਂ ਮਧ੍ਯੇ ਸਾ ਨਾਰੀ ਕਸ੍ਯ ਭਾਰ੍ੱਯਾ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਤਿ? ਯਸ੍ਮਾਤ੍ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਏਵ ਤਾਂ ਵ੍ਯਵਹਨ੍|
29 Jesus replied, “Your mistake is you don't know Scripture or what God can do.
ਤਤੋ ਯੀਸ਼ੁਃ ਪ੍ਰਤ੍ਯਵਾਦੀਤ੍, ਯੂਯੰ ਧਰ੍ੰਮਪੁਸ੍ਤਕਮ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੀਯਾਂ ਸ਼ਕ੍ਤਿਞ੍ਚ ਨ ਵਿਜ੍ਞਾਯ ਭ੍ਰਾਨ੍ਤਿਮਨ੍ਤਃ|
30 For in the resurrection people don't marry, and they aren't given in marriage either—they're like the angels in heaven.
ਉੱਥਾਨਪ੍ਰਾਪ੍ਤਾ ਲੋਕਾ ਨ ਵਿਵਹਨ੍ਤਿ, ਨ ਚ ਵਾਚਾ ਦੀਯਨ੍ਤੇ, ਕਿਨ੍ਤ੍ਵੀਸ਼੍ਵਰਸ੍ਯ ਸ੍ਵਰ੍ਗਸ੍ਥਦੂਤਾਨਾਂ ਸਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ਾ ਭਵਨ੍ਤਿ|
31 As for the resurrection of the dead—haven't you read what God said to you,
ਅਪਰੰ ਮ੍ਰੁʼਤਾਨਾਮੁੱਥਾਨਮਧਿ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਨ੍ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਯਮੀਸ਼੍ਵਰੋਕ੍ਤਿਃ,
32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He's not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
"ਅਹਮਿਬ੍ਰਾਹੀਮ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ ਇਸ੍ਹਾਕ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰੋ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ" ਇਤਿ ਕਿੰ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਭਿ ਰ੍ਨਾਪਾਠਿ? ਕਿਨ੍ਤ੍ਵੀਸ਼੍ਵਰੋ ਜੀਵਤਾਮ੍ ਈਸ਼੍ਵਰ: , ਸ ਮ੍ਰੁʼਤਾਨਾਮੀਸ਼੍ਵਰੋ ਨਹਿ|
33 When the crowds heard what he said, they were amazed at his teaching.
ਇਤਿ ਸ਼੍ਰੁਤ੍ਵਾ ਸਰ੍ੱਵੇ ਲੋਕਾਸ੍ਤਸ੍ਯੋਪਦੇਸ਼ਾਦ੍ ਵਿਸ੍ਮਯੰ ਗਤਾਃ|
34 When the Pharisees heard that he'd left the Sadducees speechless, they got together and went to ask some more questions.
ਅਨਨ੍ਤਰੰ ਸਿਦੂਕਿਨਾਮ੍ ਨਿਰੁੱਤਰਤ੍ਵਵਾਰ੍ਤਾਂ ਨਿਸ਼ਮ੍ਯ ਫਿਰੂਸ਼ਿਨ ਏਕਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਲਿਤਵਨ੍ਤਃ,
35 One of them, who was a legal expert, asked him a question to try to trap him:
ਤੇਸ਼਼ਾਮੇਕੋ ਵ੍ਯਵਸ੍ਥਾਪਕੋ ਯੀਸ਼ੁੰ ਪਰੀਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਿਤੁੰ ਪਪੱਛ,
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?”
ਹੇ ਗੁਰੋ ਵ੍ਯਵਸ੍ਥਾਸ਼ਾਸ੍ਤ੍ਰਮਧ੍ਯੇ ਕਾਜ੍ਞਾ ਸ਼੍ਰੇਸ਼਼੍ਠਾ?
37 Jesus told them, “‘Love the Lord your God in all you think, in all you feel, and in all you do.’
ਤਤੋ ਯੀਸ਼ੁਰੁਵਾਚ, ਤ੍ਵੰ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਾਨ੍ਤਃਕਰਣੈਃ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਪ੍ਰਾਣੈਃ ਸਰ੍ੱਵਚਿੱਤੈਸ਼੍ਚ ਸਾਕੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੌ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼੍ਵਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਯਸ੍ਵ,
38 This is the greatest commandment, the first commandment.
ਏਸ਼਼ਾ ਪ੍ਰਥਮਮਹਾਜ੍ਞਾ| ਤਸ੍ਯਾਃ ਸਦ੍ਰੁʼਸ਼ੀ ਦ੍ਵਿਤੀਯਾਜ੍ਞੈਸ਼਼ਾ,
39 The second is just like it, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
ਤਵ ਸਮੀਪਵਾਸਿਨਿ ਸ੍ਵਾਤ੍ਮਨੀਵ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੁਰੁ|
40 All biblical law and the writings of the prophets depend on these two commandments.”
ਅਨਯੋ ਰ੍ਦ੍ਵਯੋਰਾਜ੍ਞਯੋਃ ਕ੍ਰੁʼਤ੍ਸ੍ਨਵ੍ਯਵਸ੍ਥਾਯਾ ਭਵਿਸ਼਼੍ਯਦ੍ਵਕ੍ਤ੍ਰੁʼਗ੍ਰਨ੍ਥਸ੍ਯ ਚ ਭਾਰਸ੍ਤਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਤਿ|
41 While the Pharisees were gathered there, Jesus asked them a question.
ਅਨਨ੍ਤਰੰ ਫਿਰੂਸ਼ਿਨਾਮ੍ ਏਕਤ੍ਰ ਸ੍ਥਿਤਿਕਾਲੇ ਯੀਸ਼ੁਸ੍ਤਾਨ੍ ਪਪ੍ਰੱਛ,
42 “What do you think about the Messiah?” he asked. “Whose son is he?” “The son of David,” they replied.
ਖ੍ਰੀਸ਼਼੍ਟਮਧਿ ਯੁਸ਼਼੍ਮਾਕੰ ਕੀਦ੍ਰੁʼਗ੍ਬੋਧੋ ਜਾਯਤੇ? ਸ ਕਸ੍ਯ ਸਨ੍ਤਾਨਃ? ਤਤਸ੍ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਤ੍ਯਵਦਨ੍, ਦਾਯੂਦਃ ਸਨ੍ਤਾਨਃ|
43 “But how can David under inspiration call him ‘Lord’?” Jesus asked them. “He says,
ਤਦਾ ਸ ਉਕ੍ਤਵਾਨ੍, ਤਰ੍ਹਿ ਦਾਯੂਦ੍ ਕਥਮ੍ ਆਤ੍ਮਾਧਿਸ਼਼੍ਠਾਨੇਨ ਤੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁੰ ਵਦਤਿ?
44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit down at my right hand until I defeat all your enemies.’
ਯਥਾ ਮਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁਮਿਦੰ ਵਾਕ੍ਯਮਵਦਤ੍ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼੍ਵਰਃ| ਤਵਾਰੀਨ੍ ਪਾਦਪੀਠੰ ਤੇ ਯਾਵੰਨਹਿ ਕਰੋਮ੍ਯਹੰ| ਤਾਵਤ੍ ਕਾਲੰ ਮਦੀਯੇ ਤ੍ਵੰ ਦਕ੍ਸ਼਼ਪਾਰ੍ਸ਼੍ਵ ਉਪਾਵਿਸ਼| ਅਤੋ ਯਦਿ ਦਾਯੂਦ੍ ਤੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁੰ ਵਦਤਿ, ਰ੍ਤਿਹ ਸ ਕਥੰ ਤਸ੍ਯ ਸਨ੍ਤਾਨੋ ਭਵਤਿ?
45 If David called him Lord, how can he be his son?”
