Matthew 11
1 When Jesus had finished giving instructions to his twelve disciples, he left to go and teach and speak publicly in the nearby towns.
Und es begab sich, als Jesus die Befehle an seine zwölf Jünger vollendet hatte, zog er von dannen, um in ihren Städten zu lehren und zu predigen.
2 While John was in prison he heard what the Messiah was doing, so he sent his disciples
Als aber Johannes im Gefängnis die Werke Christi vernahm, ließ er ihn durch seine Jünger fragen:
3 to ask on his behalf, “Are you the one we were expecting to come, or should we continue to look for someone else?”
Bist du es, der da kommen soll, oder sollen wir auf einen andern warten?
4 Jesus answered them, “Go back and tell John what you hear and what you see.
Und Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet hin und verkündiget dem Johannes, was ihr sehet und höret:
5 The blind can see, the crippled can walk, the lepers are healed, the deaf can hear, the dead are resurrected, and the poor hear the good news.
Blinde werden sehend, und Lahme wandeln, Aussätzige werden rein, und Taube hören, Tote stehen auf, und den Armen wird das Evangelium gepredigt.
6 Blessed are those who don't reject me!”
Und selig ist, wer sich nicht ärgert an mir!
7 As they left, Jesus began to talk to the crowds about John. “What were you expecting to see when you went out into the desert? A reed tossed about by the wind?
Als aber diese aufbrachen, fing Jesus an zur Volksmenge zu reden über Johannes: Was seid ihr in die Wüste hinausgegangen zu sehen? Ein Rohr, das vom Winde bewegt wird?
8 So what did you go to see? A man dressed in fancy clothes? People dressed like that live in kings' palaces.
Oder was seid ihr hinausgegangen zu sehen? Einen Menschen, mit weichen Kleidern angetan? Siehe, die weiche Kleider tragen, sind in den Häusern der Könige!
9 So what did you go to see then? A prophet? Yes, and I tell you he is much more than a prophet!
Oder was seid ihr hinausgegangen? Wolltet ihr einen Propheten sehen? Ja, ich sage euch, einen, der mehr ist als ein Prophet!
10 He's the one this Scripture was written about: ‘I'm sending my messenger on ahead of you. He will prepare your way for you.’
Denn dieser ist's, von dem geschrieben steht: «Siehe, ich sende meinen Boten vor deinem Angesichte her, der deinen Weg vor dir bereiten soll.»
11 I tell you the truth, that among humanity there's no one greater than John the Baptist, but even the least important in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is.
Wahrlich, ich sage euch, unter denen, die vom Weibe geboren sind, ist kein Größerer aufgetreten, als Johannes der Täufer. Doch der Kleinste im Himmelreich ist größer als er.
12 From the time of John the Baptist up till now the kingdom of heaven continues to be under attack and violent people are trying to seize it by force.
Aber von den Tagen Johannes des Täufers an bis jetzt leidet das Himmelreich Gewalt, und die, welche Gewalt anwenden, reißen es an sich.
13 For all the prophets and the law spoke for God until John came.
Denn alle Propheten und das Gesetz bis auf Johannes haben geweissagt.
14 If you're prepared to believe it, he is Elijah, the one who was expected to come.
Und wenn ihr es annehmen wollt: er ist der Elia, der da kommen soll.
15 Anybody with ears should be listening!
Wer Ohren hat zu hören, der höre!
16 What shall I compare this generation to? It's like children sitting in the market places shouting to each other,
Wem soll ich aber dieses Geschlecht vergleichen? Es ist Kindern gleich, die am Markte sitzen und ihren Gespielen zurufen
17 ‘We played the flute for you and you didn't dance; we sang sad songs and you didn't cry.’
und sprechen: Wir haben euch aufgespielt, und ihr habt nicht getanzt; wir haben geklagt, und ihr habt nicht geweint!
18 John didn't come feasting and drinking, so people say, ‘He's devil-possessed!’
Denn Johannes ist gekommen, der aß nicht und trank nicht; da sagen sie: Er hat einen Dämon!
19 On the other hand the Son of man came and did feast and drink, and people say, ‘Look, he's greedy and drinks too much; he's a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is shown to be right by what it does…”
Des Menschen Sohn ist gekommen, der ißt und trinkt; da sagen sie: Siehe, wie ist der Mensch ein Fresser und Weinsäufer, der Zöllner und Sünder Freund! Und die Weisheit ist durch ihre Kinder gerechtfertigt worden.
20 Then he began to reprimand the towns where he'd done most of his miracles because they had not repented.
Da fing er an, die Städte zu schelten, in welchen die meisten seiner Taten geschehen waren, weil sie nicht Buße getan.
21 “Shame on you, Korazin! Shame on you, Bethsaida! If the miracles had been performed in Tyre and Sidon which happened among you, they would have repented in sackcloth and ashes long ago.
Wehe dir, Chorazin, wehe dir, Bethsaida! Denn wenn zu Tyrus und Sidon die Taten geschehen wären, die bei euch geschehen sind, so hätten sie längst im Sack und in der Asche Buße getan.
22 But I tell you that on the Day of Judgment it will be better for Tyre and Sidon than it will for you!
Doch ich sage euch, es wird Tyrus und Zidon erträglicher gehen am Tage des Gerichts als euch!
23 And what about you, Capernaum? Will you be exalted to heaven? No, you'll go down to Hades! If the miracles had been performed in Sodom which happened among you, Sodom would still be here today. (Hadēs g86)
Und du, Kapernaum, die du bis zum Himmel erhoben bist, du wirst bis zur Hölle hinabgeworfen werden. Denn wenn zu Sodom die Taten geschehen wären, die bei dir geschehen sind, es stünde noch heutzutage! (Hadēs g86)
24 But I tell you that on the Day of Judgment it will be better for Sodom than it will for you!”
Doch ich sage euch, es wird dem Lande Sodom erträglicher gehen am Tage des Gerichts als dir!
25 Then Jesus prayed, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for you've hidden these things from the clever and sophisticated. Instead you've revealed them to ordinary people.
Zu jener Zeit hob Jesus an und sprach: Ich preise dich, Vater, Herr des Himmels und der Erde, daß du solches den Weisen und Klugen verborgen und es den Unmündigen offenbart hast!
26 Yes, Father, you were pleased to do this!
Ja, Vater, denn so ist es wohlgefällig gewesen vor dir.
27 Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father, and no one really understands the Son, except the Father, and no one really understands the Father, except the Son, and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
Alles ist mir von meinem Vater übergeben worden, und niemand erkennt den Sohn, als nur der Vater; und niemand erkennt den Vater, als nur der Sohn und wem der Sohn es offenbaren will.
28 Come to me, all of you who struggle and who are burdened down. I will give you rest.
Kommet her zu mir alle, die ihr mühselig und beladen seid, so will ich euch erquicken!
29 Accept my yoke, and learn from me. For I am kind and I have a humble heart, and in me you will find the rest you need.
Nehmet auf euch mein Joch und lernet von mir; denn ich bin sanftmütig und von Herzen demütig; so werdet ihr Ruhe finden für eure Seelen;
30 For my yoke is gentle, and my burden is light.”
denn mein Joch ist sanft und meine Last ist leicht!
