< Mark 9 >

1 Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth: some standing here won't die before they see the kingdom of God having come with power.”
And He said to them, “Truly I say to you that there are certain of those standing here, who may not taste of death until they see the Kingdom of God having come in power.”
2 Six days later Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him, and led them up a high mountain to be by themselves. His appearance totally changed.
And after six days Jesus takes Peter, and James, and John, and brings them up to a high mountain by themselves, alone, and He was transfigured before them,
3 His clothes shone a brilliant white, whiter than anyone on earth could bleach them.
and His garments became glittering, exceedingly white, as snow, so as a launderer on the earth is not able to whiten [them].
4 Then Elijah and Moses appeared in front of them as well, talking with Jesus.
And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter spoke up and said, “Rabbi, it's great for us to be here! We should make three shelters—one each for you, Moses, and Elijah.”
And Peter answering says to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good to us to be here; and we may make three shelters, for You one, and for Moses one, and for Elijah one”:
6 (He really didn't know what to say because they were all so frightened!)
for he was not knowing what he might say, for they were greatly afraid.
7 Then a cloud covered them, and a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, the one I love. Listen to him.”
And there came a cloud overshadowing them, and there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, “This is My Son, the Beloved, hear Him”;
8 Then, all of a sudden, as they were watching, there was nobody. Only Jesus was with them.
and suddenly, having looked around, they saw no one anymore, but Jesus only with themselves.
9 As they came down the mountain Jesus instructed them not to tell anyone what they'd seen until the Son of man had risen from the dead.
And as they are coming down from the mountain, He charged them that they may declare to no one the things that they saw, except when the Son of Man may rise out of the dead;
10 They kept this to themselves, but they did argue with each other over what it meant to rise from the dead.
and the thing they kept to themselves, questioning together what the rising out of the dead is.
11 “Why do the religious teachers state that Elijah has to come first?” they asked him.
And they were questioning Him, saying that the scribes say that Elijah must come first.
12 “It's true that Elijah comes first to prepare everything,” Jesus replied. “But why then does it say in Scripture that the Son of man has to suffer so much and be treated with contempt?
And He answering said to them, “Elijah indeed, having come first, restores all things; and how has it been written concerning the Son of Man, that He may suffer many things, and be set at nothing?
13 However, I tell you that Elijah has come, and they abused him in whatever way they wanted, just as Scripture said they would.”
But I say to you that also Elijah has come, and they did to him what they willed, as it has been written of him.”
14 When they returned to the other disciples, they saw them surrounded by a large crowd and some religious teachers arguing with them.
And having come to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes questioning with them,
15 As soon as the crowd saw Jesus they were in total awe, and ran to greet him.
and immediately, all the multitude having seen Him, were amazed, and running near, were greeting Him.
16 “What are you arguing with them about?” Jesus asked them.
And He questioned the scribes, “What do you dispute with them?”
17 One of the people in the crowd answered, “Rabbi, I brought my son to you. He has an evil spirit that prevents him speaking.
And one out of the multitude answering said, “Teacher, I brought my son to You, having a mute spirit;
18 Whenever he has a seizure it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and he becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive it out of him, but they couldn't do it.”
and wherever it seizes him, it tears him, and he foams, and gnashes his teeth, and pines away; and I spoke to Your disciples that they may cast it out, and they were not able.”
19 “You unbelieving people!” Jesus responded. “How long must I remain here with you? How long do I have to put up with you? Bring him over here to me!”
And He answering him, said, “O generation unbelieving, until when will I be with you? Until when will I suffer you? Bring him to Me”;
20 So they brought him to Jesus. When the evil spirit saw Jesus it immediately sent the boy into convulsions and threw him on the ground, where he rolled around, foaming at the mouth.
and they brought him to Him, and he having seen Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he, having fallen on the earth, was wallowing—foaming.
21 “How long has he had this?” Jesus asked the boy's father. “Since he was small,” the father replied.
And He questioned his father, “How much time is it since this came to him?” And he said, “From childhood,
22 “Often it throws him into the fire to burn him to death, or throws him into water to drown him. Please have mercy on us and help, if you can.”
and many times it also cast him into fire, and into water, that it might destroy him; but if You are able to do anything, help us, having compassion on us.”
23 “Why do you say, ‘if you can?’” replied Jesus. “Whoever trusts has every power!”
And Jesus said to him, “If you are able to believe! All things are possible to the one that is believing”;
24 “I do trust in you,” the man shouted out right away. “Help me not to distrust you.”
and immediately the father of the child, having cried out with tears, said, “I believe, Lord; be helping my unbelief.”
25 Jesus, seeing that the crowd was closing in, commanded the evil spirit, “Spirit that causes deafness and dumbness, I order you to come out of him and never return.”
Jesus having seen that a multitude runs together, rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Spirit—mute and deaf—I charge you, come forth out of him, and you may no longer enter into him”;
26 The spirit screamed and threw the boy into severe convulsions. Then the spirit came out of the boy and left him for dead—to the extent that many of the people said, “He's dead.”
and having cried, and convulsed him much, it came forth, and he became as dead, so that many said that he was dead,
27 But Jesus took the boy by the hand and helped him up, and he got to his feet.
but Jesus, having taken him by the hand, lifted him up, and he arose.
28 Later, when Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him in private, “Why couldn't we drive the evil spirit out?”
And He having come into the house, His disciples were questioning Him by Himself, “Why were we not able to cast it forth?”
29 “This kind can't be driven out except by prayer,” Jesus told them.
And He said to them, “This kind is able to come forth with nothing except with prayer and fasting.”
30 They left and passed through Galilee. Jesus didn't want anyone to know where he was
And having gone forth there, they were passing through Galilee, and He did not wish that any may know,
31 because he was teaching his disciples. “The Son of man will be betrayed to human authorities,” he told them. “They will kill him, but three days later he will rise again.”
for He was teaching His disciples, and He said to them, “The Son of Man is being delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill Him, and having been killed, the third day He will rise,”
32 They didn't understand what he meant and were too afraid to ask him about it.
but they were not understanding the saying, and they were afraid to question Him.
33 They arrived at Capernaum, and once they were inside the house where they were staying, Jesus asked them, “What were you talking about on the way?”
And He came to Capernaum, and being in the house, He was questioning them, “What were you reasoning in the way among yourselves?”
34 But they didn't say anything because they had been arguing over who was the most important.
And they were silent, for they reasoned with one another in the way who is greater;
35 Jesus sat down and called the twelve disciples together. “If anyone wants to be first, he has to be the very last, the servant of everyone else,” he told them.
and having sat down He called the Twelve, and He says to them, “If any wills to be first, he will be last of all, and minister of all.”
36 He took a small child and had the child stand right in the middle of them. Then he picked up and hugged the child, and told them,
And having taken a child, He set him in the midst of them, and having taken him in His arms, said to them,
37 “Whoever welcomes a child like this in my name, welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me doesn't welcome me but the one who sent me.”
“Whoever may receive one of such children in My Name, receives Me, and whoever may receive Me, does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me.”
38 John said to Jesus, “Rabbi, we saw someone driving out demons in your name. We tried to stop him because he wasn't one of us.”
And John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw a certain one casting out demons in Your Name, who does not follow us, and we forbade him, because he does not follow us.”
39 “Don't stop him,” Jesus replied. “For no one who is doing miracles in my name can curse me at the same time.
And Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, for there is no one who will do a mighty work in My Name, and will be readily able to speak evil of Me:
40 Anyone who is not against us is for us.
for he who is not against us is for us;
41 Anyone who gives a cup of water to you in my name, because you belong to Christ, won't lose their reward, believe me.
for whoever may give you to drink a cup of water in My Name, because you are Christ’s, truly I say to you, he may not lose his reward;
42 But if anyone leads one of these little ones who trust in me into sin, it would be better for them if they were thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around their neck.
and whoever may cause to stumble one of the little ones believing in Me, better is it for him if a millstone is hanged around his neck, and he has been cast into the sea.
43 If your hand leads you to sin, cut it off! It's better to enter eternal life as a cripple than to go with both hands into Gehenna, into the fire that can't be put out. (Geenna g1067)
And if your hand may cause you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life maimed, than having the two hands, to go away into Gehenna, into the fire—the unquenchable— (Geenna g1067)
[[where their worm is not dying, and the fire is not being quenched.]]
45 If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off! It's better to enter eternal life lame than to be thrown into Gehenna still having two feet. (Geenna g1067)
And if your foot may cause you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter into life lame, than having the two feet to be cast into Gehenna, into the fire—the unquenchable— (Geenna g1067)
[[where their worm is not dying, and the fire is not being quenched.]]
47 If your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out! It's better to enter the kingdom of God with just one eye than to be thrown into Gehenna still having both eyes, (Geenna g1067)
And if your eye may cause you to stumble, cast it out; it is better for you to enter into the Kingdom of God one-eyed, than having two eyes, to be cast into the Gehenna of fire— (Geenna g1067)
48 where the worm doesn't die and the fire never goes out.
where their worm is not dying, and the fire is not being quenched;
49 Everybody will be ‘salted’ by fire.
for everyone will be salted with fire, and every sacrifice will be salted with salt.
50 Salt is good, but if it loses its taste, how could you make it salty again? You need to be like salt, and live in peace with one another.”
The salt [is] good, but if the salt may become saltless, in what will you season [it]? Have in yourselves salt, and have peace in one another.”
