Mark 8
1 Around this time there was another large crowd that had nothing to eat. Jesus called the disciples together and told them,
Niinä päivinä, koska sangen paljo kansaa oli, eikä ollut heillä mitään syömistä, kutsui Jesus opetuslapsensa tykönsä ja sanoi heille:
2 “I feel for the crowd because they have already stayed with me for three days and they have nothing to eat.
Minä surkuttelen kansaa; sillä he ovat jo kolme päivää viipyneet minun tykönäni, ja ei ole heillä, mitä he söisivät.
3 If I send them home without food, they'll faint on the way. Some have come from a long way away.”
Ja jos minä päästän heidät kotiansa syömättä, niin he vaipuvat tiellä; sillä muutamat heistä olivat kaukaa tulleet.
4 “Where could anybody find enough bread to feed them here in this wilderness?” answered his disciples.
Niin vastasivat häntä hänen opetuslapsensa: kusta joku voi näitä ravita leivillä tässä erämaassa?
5 “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Seven,” they replied.
Ja hän kysyi heiltä: kuinka monta leipää teillä on? He sanoivat: seitsemän.
6 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves of bread, and gave thanks. He broke the bread and handed the pieces to his disciples to give to the crowd.
Ja hän käski kansan istua atrioitsemaan maan päälle. Ja hän otti ne seitsemän leipää, kuin hän kiittänyt oli, mursi ja antoi opetuslapsillensa, että he olisivat panneet eteen; ja he panivat kansan eteen.
7 They had a few fish as well, so having blessed them, he said, “Take these and share them too.”
Ja heillä oli myös vähä kalasia; ja hän kiitti, ja käski ne myös pantaa eteen.
8 They ate until they were full, and then collected up seven baskets of leftovers.
Niin he söivät ja ravittiin; ja he korjasivat tähteet, jotka jääneet olivat, seitsemän koria muruja.
9 There were four thousand people there. After sending them on their way,
Ja niitä jotka söivät, oli liki neljätuhatta; ja hän päästi heidät.
10 Jesus climbed into a boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.
Ja hän astui kohta opetuslastensa kanssa haahteen, ja tuli Dalmanutan maan ääriin.
11 The Pharisees arrived and began to argue with him, wanting him to give them a miraculous sign from heaven, trying to get him to prove himself.
Ja Pharisealaiset tulivat ja rupesivat kamppailemaan hänen kanssansa, pyytäen häneltä merkkiä taivaasta, kiusaten häntä.
12 Jesus sighed deeply, and asked, “Why do you people want a sign? I tell you the truth: I will not give you a sign.”
Ja hän huokasi hengessänsä ja sanoi: miksi tämä suku merkkiä pyytää? Totisesti sanon minä teille: ei tälle sukukunnalle anneta merkkiä.
13 So he left them behind, climbed into the boat, and went back across the lake.
Ja hän jätti heidät, ja astui taas haahteen, ja meni ylitse.
14 But the disciples had forgotten to bring bread with them. All they had in the boat was one loaf.
Ja he olivat unohtaneet ottaa leipiä, eikä ollut heillä enempi kuin yksi leipä haahdessa myötänsä.
15 “Watch out—beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of Herod!” he warned them.
Ja hän käski heitä, sanoen: katsokaat ja karttakaat teitänne Pharisealaisten hapatuksesta ja Herodeksen hapatuksesta.
16 “He's saying that because we don't have any bread,” they concluded.
Ja he ajattelivat keskenänsä, sanoen: ei meillä ole leipiä.
17 Jesus knew what they were saying, and said, “Why are you talking about not having any bread? Are you still not thinking and not understanding? Have you closed your minds?
Ja kun Jesus sen ymmärsi, sanoi hän heille: mitä te ajattelette, ettei teillä ole leipää? ettekö te vielä huomaitse, ettekä ymmärrä? vieläkö teillä nyt on paatunut sydän?
18 You've got eyes to see, haven't you? And ears to hear?
Silmät teillä on ja ette näe? ja korvat teillä on, ja ette kuule? ettekö myös muista?
19 Don't you remember when I shared five loaves among five thousand? How many basketfuls of leftovers did you pick up?” “Twelve,” they replied.
Kuin minä viisi leipää mursin viidelletuhannelle, kuinka monta täysinäistä koria te tähteitä korjasitte? He sanoivat: kaksitoistakymmentä.
20 “And the seven loaves divided among four thousand. How many basketfuls of leftovers did you pick up?” “Seven,” they answered.
Niin myös kuin minä ne seitsemän mursin neljälletuhannelle, kuinka monta täysinäistä koria tähteitä te korjasitte? he sanoivat: seitsemän.
21 “Do you still not understand?” he asked them.
Ja hän sanoi heille: miksi ette siis ymmärrä?
22 They went to Bethsaida where some people brought a blind man to Jesus. They begged Jesus to touch him and heal him.
Ja hän tuli Betsaidaan, ja he toivat sokian ja rukoilivat häntä, että hän rupeais häneen.
23 Jesus took the blind man by the hand and took him outside the village. Jesus spat on the man's eyes and touched him with his hands. Then Jesus asked him, “Can you see anything?”
Ja hän tarttui sokian käteen, ja vei ulos hänen kylästä, ja sylki hänen silmiinsä, ja pani kätensä hänen päällensä, ja kysyi häneltä, josko hän jotakin näkis.
24 The man looked around, and said, “I can see people, but they look like trees walking.”
Niin hän katsoi ylös ja sanoi: minä näen ihmiset niinkuin puut käyskentelevän.
25 So Jesus touched the man's eyes again. He could see properly—he was cured and his sight was clear.
Sitte hän taas pani kätensä hänen silmäinsä päälle, ja antoi hänen taas katsoa. Ja se tuli parannetuksi, niin että hän näki kaikki kaukaa ja selkiästi.
26 Jesus sent the man home, and told him, “Don't go back through the village.”
Ja hän lähetti hänen kotiansa, sanoen: älä mene kylään sisälle, älä myös kellenkään tätä kylässä sano.
27 Jesus and his disciples left to go to the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do people say I am?”
Ja Jesus meni ulos ja hänen opetuslapsensa Kesarean kyliin, joka kutsutaan Philippi; ja hän kysyi tiellä opetuslapsiltansa, sanoen heille: kenenkä sanovat ihmiset minun olevan?
28 “Some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, others say one of the prophets,” they replied.
Niin he vastasivat: Johannes Kastajan, ja muutamat Eliaan, vaan muutamat jonkun prophetaista.
29 “But who do you say I am?” he asked them. “You are the Messiah!” Peter answered.
Ja hän sanoi heille: kenenkäs te sanotte minun olevan? Pietari vastasi ja sanoi hänelle: sinä olet Kristus.
30 Jesus warned them not to tell anybody about him.
Ja hän haasti heitä kellenkään hänestä sanomasta.
31 Then Jesus began to explain to them that the Son of man would suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and religious teachers. He would be killed, but three days later would rise again.
Ja hän rupesi heitä opettamaan, että Ihmisen Pojan pitää paljo kärsimän, ja hyljättämän vanhimmilta ja ylimmäisiltä papeilta ja kirjanoppineilta, ja tapettaman, ja kolmantena päivänä ylösnouseman.
32 Jesus explained this to them very clearly. But Peter took Jesus aside and started to reprimand him for what he said.
Ja hän puhui sen puheen julki rohkiasti. Ja Pietari otti hänen tykönsä, rupesi häntä nuhtelemaan.
33 Jesus turned around and looking at his disciples, reprimanded Peter. “Get away from me, Satan,” he said. “You're not thinking as God thinks, but as human beings do.”
Mutta hän käänsi itsensä ja katsoi opetuslastensa puoleen, nuhteli Pietaria, sanoen: mene pois minun tyköäni, saatana; sillä et sinä ymmärrä niitä, mitkä Jumalan ovat, vaan niitä, mitkä ihmisten ovat.
34 Jesus called the crowd and his disciples over to him, and told them, “If you want to follow me, you must give up on yourselves, pick up your cross and follow me.
Ja hän kutsui tykönsä kansan ja opetuslapsensa, ja sanoi heille: kuka ikänä tahtoo tulla minun perässäni, hän kieltäköön itsensä, ja ottakoon ristinsä, ja seuratkoon minua.
35 If you want to save your life you will lose it, but if you lose your life because of me and the good news you will save it.
Sillä kuka ikänä tahtoo henkensä vapahtaa, hän hukuttaa sen; mutta joka ikänä henkensä hukuttaa minun ja evankeliumin tähden, hän vapahtaa sen.
36 What use is it for you to gain everything in the whole world, and lose your life?
Sillä mitä se auttaa ihmistä, jos hän voittais kaiken maailman, ja sais sielullensa vahingon?
37 What would you give in exchange for your life?
Eli mitä ihminen antaa sielunsa lunastukseksi?
38 If you're ashamed to acknowledge me and what I say among this unfaithful and sinful people, then the Son of man will be ashamed to acknowledge you when he comes with his Father's glory with the holy angels.”
Sillä joka häpee minua ja minun sanojani tässä huorintekiässä ja syntisessä suvussa, sitä myös pitää Ihmisen Pojan häpeemän, koska hän tulee Isänsä kunniassa pyhäin enkelien kanssa.
