Malachi 3

1 Look! I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way for me. The Lord you are seeking will suddenly arrive at his Temple. The messenger of the agreement you say is so happy with you is coming, says the Lord Almighty.

Ecco, io manderò un mio messaggero a preparare la via davanti a me e subito entrerà nel suo tempio il Signore, che voi cercate; l'angelo dell'alleanza, che voi sospirate, ecco viene, dice il Signore degli eserciti.

2 Who can survive the day when he comes? Who can stand before him when he appears? For he will be like a blazing furnace that refines metal, or like the strong alkali that cleanses stains.

Chi sopporterà il giorno della sua venuta? Chi resisterà al suo apparire? Egli è come il fuoco del fonditore e come la lisciva dei lavandai.

3 He will sit down like a refiner who purifies silver; he will purify Levi's descendants and refine them like gold and silver so they can present pure offerings to the Lord.

Siederà per fondere e purificare; purificherà i figli di Levi, li affinerà come oro e argento, perché possano offrire al Signore un'oblazione secondo giustizia.

4 Then the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will please the Lord as they did in the old days, in the former years.

Allora l'offerta di Giuda e di Gerusalemme sarà gradita al Signore come nei giorni antichi, come negli anni lontani.

5 I will come and put you on trial. I am ready to be a witness against those who: practice witchcraft commit adultery tell lies give false evidence cheat employees oppress widows and orphans abuse foreigners and do not respect me, says the Lord Almighty.

Io mi accosterò a voi per il giudizio e sarò un testimone pronto contro gli incantatori, contro gli adùlteri, contro gli spergiuri, contro chi froda il salario all'operaio, contro gli oppressori della vedova e dell'orfano e contro chi fa torto al forestiero. Costoro non mi temono, dice il Signore degli eserciti.

6 For I am the Lord, I don't change, and you haven't stopped being descendants of Jacob.

Io sono il Signore, non cambio; voi, figli di Giacobbe, non siete ancora al termine.

7 From the time of your forefathers onward, you have turned away from my laws and not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord Almighty. But you ask, “How should we return?”

Fin dai tempi dei vostri padri vi siete allontanati dai miei precetti, non li avete osservati. Ritornate a me e io tornerò a voi, dice il Signore degli eserciti. Ma voi dite: «Come dobbiamo tornare?».

8 Should people defraud God? Yet you are defrauding me! But you ask, “How have we defrauded you?” In tithes and offerings.

Può un uomo frodare Dio? Eppure voi mi frodate e andate dicendo: «Come ti abbiamo frodato?». Nelle decime e nelle primizie.

9 You are under a curse, for you and the whole nation are defrauding me.

Siete gia stati colpiti dalla maledizione e andate ancora frodandomi, voi, la nazione tutta!

10 Bring the full tithe into the storehouse so that there will be food in my Temple. Put me to the test in this, says the Lord Almighty, and I will open the windows of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you won't have enough room for it.

Portate le decime intere nel tesoro del tempio, perché ci sia cibo nella mia casa; poi mettetemi pure alla prova in questo, - dice il Signore degli eserciti - se io non vi aprirò le cateratte del cielo e non riverserò su di voi benedizioni sovrabbondanti.

11 I will prevent locusts from destroying your crops, and your vineyards will not fail to bear fruit, says the Lord Almighty.

Terrò indietro gli insetti divoratori perché non vi distruggano i frutti della terra e la vite non sia sterile nel campo, dice il Signore degli eserciti.

12 All nations will call you blessed because you live in such a wonderful land, says the Lord Almighty.

Felici vi diranno tutte le genti, perché sarete una terra di delizie, dice il Signore degli eserciti.

13 You have said hard things about me, says the Lord. But you say, “What have we said against you?”

Duri sono i vostri discorsi contro di me - dice il Signore - e voi andate dicendo: «Che abbiamo contro di te?».

14 You have said, “What's the point of serving God? What benefit is there in keeping his commandments or going before the Lord Almighty with long faces?

Avete affermato: «Einutile servire Dio: che vantaggio abbiamo ricevuto dall'aver osservato i suoi comandamenti o dall'aver camminato in lutto davanti al Signore degli eserciti?

15 From now on we'll say that the proud are blessed. Evil people do well, and nothing happens when they dare God to punish them.”

Dobbiamo invece proclamare beati i superbi che, pur facendo il male, si moltiplicano e, pur provocando Dio, restano impuniti».

16 Then those who truly respected the Lord spoke to each other, and the Lord heard what they said. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence of those who respected the Lord and paid attention to him.

Allora parlarono tra di loro i timorati di Dio. Il Signore porse l'orecchio e li ascoltò: un libro di memorie fu scritto davanti a lui per coloro che lo temono e che onorano il suo nome.

17 They shall be mine, says the Lord Almighty, my prized possession on the day when I take action. I will treat them kindly, as a father treats an obedient son.

Essi diverranno - dice il Signore degli eserciti - mia proprietà nel giorno che io preparo. Avrò compassione di loro come il padre ha compassione del figlio che lo serve.

18 Then you will once again be able to distinguish those who do right from those who do wrong, between those who serve him and those who don't.

Voi allora vi convertirete e vedrete la differenza fra il giusto e l'empio, fra chi serve Dio e chi non lo serve.
