< Leviticus 20 >

1 The Lord told Moses,
And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 “Tell the Israelites: these regulations are for both Israelites and foreigners living among them. Anyone who sacrifices their children to Molech must be executed. The community must stone them to death.
Thou shalt also say to the children of Israel, If [there shall be] any of the children of Israel, or of those who have become proselytes in Israel, who shall give of his seed to Moloch, let him be surely put to death; the nation upon the land shall stone him with stones.
3 I will disown them and expel them from their people, because by sacrificing their children to Molech they have polluted my sanctuary and disgraced my reputation.
And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from his people, because he has given of his seed to Moloch, to defile my sanctuary, and profane the name of them that are consecrated to me.
4 If the community decides to look the other way and not execute those who sacrifice their children to Molech, then I will take action against them myself.
And if the natives of the land should in anywise overlook that man in giving of his seed to Moloch, so as not to put him to death;
5 I will disown them and their family, and expel them from their people—and not just them, but everyone who follows them in spiritually prostituting themselves with Molech.
then will I set my face against that man and his family, and I will destroy him, and all who have been of one mind with him, so that he should go a whoring to the princes, from their people.
6 I will also disown and expel from their people anyone who goes to mediums or spiritists and in this way commits spiritual prostitution with them.
And the soul that shall follow those who have in them divining spirits, or enchanters, so as to go a whoring after them; I will set my face against that soul, and will destroy it from among its people.
7 So dedicate yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God.
And ye shall be holy, for I the Lord your God [am] holy.
8 Keep my rules and put them into practice. I am the Lord who makes you holy.
And ye shall observe my ordinances, and do them: I [am] the Lord that sanctifies you.
9 Anyone who curses their father or mother must be executed. They have cursed their father or mother; they bear the responsibility for their punishment.
Every man who shall speak evil of his father or of his mother, let him die the death; has he spoken evil of his father or his mother? he shall be guilty.
10 Any man who commits adultery with someone else's wife must be executed, as well as the woman.
Whatever man shall commit adultery with the wife of a man, or whoever shall commit adultery with the wife of his neighbour, let them die the death, the adulterer and the adulteress.
11 A man who has sex with his father's wife has brought shame on his father. Both the man and the woman must be executed. Both must surely be put to death; they bear the responsibility for their punishment.
And if any one should lie with his father's wife, he has uncovered his father's nakedness: let them both die the death, they are guilty.
12 A man who has sex with his daughter-in-law must be executed, as well as the woman. They have done something perverse; they bear the responsibility for their punishment.
And if any one should lie with his daughter-in-law, let them both be put to death; for they have wrought impiety, they are guilty.
13 Men who have sex with other men as with a woman have done something disgusting. They must be executed; they bear the responsibility for their punishment.
And whoever shall lie with a male as with a woman, they have both wrought abomination; let them die the death, they are guilty.
14 A man who marries both a woman and her mother has acted perversely. They must all be burned to death so that there will be no such wickedness among you.
Whosoever shall take a woman and her mother, it is iniquity: they shall burn him and them with fire; so there shall not be iniquity among you.
15 A man who has sex with an animal must be executed, and the animal must be killed too.
And whosoever shall lie with a beast, let him die the death; and ye shall kill the beast.
16 A woman who gives herself to an animal to have sex with it must be executed, along with the animal. They must both be killed; they bear the responsibility for their punishment.
And whatever woman shall approach any beast, so as to have connexion with it, ye shall kill the woman and the beast: let them die the death, they are guilty.
17 A man who marries his sister, whether she's his father's daughter or his mother's daughter, and they have sex, has done something shameful. They must be expelled from their people in front of everybody. He has brought shame on his sister; he bears the responsibility for his punishment.
Whosoever shall take his sister by his father or by his mother, and shall see her nakedness, and she see his nakedness, it is a reproach: they shall be destroyed before the children of their family; he has uncovered his sister's nakedness, they shall bear their sin.
18 A man who has sex with a woman having her period he has exposed where her blood flow comes from, and she has too. They must both be expelled from their people.
And whatever man shall lie with a woman that is set apart [for a flux], and shall uncover her nakedness, he has uncovered her fountain, and she has uncovered the flux of her blood: they shall both be destroyed from among their generation.
19 Don't have sex with your aunt, whether on your father or your mother's side, because it brings shame on your own family. Both will bear responsibility for their sin.
And thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's sister, or of the sister of thy mother; for that man has uncovered the nakedness of one near akin: they shall bear their iniquity.
20 A man who has sex with his uncle's wife brings shame on his uncle. They will bear responsibility for their sin; they shall die without having children.
Whosoever shall lie with his near kinswoman, has uncovered the nakedness of one near akin to him: they shall die childless.
21 A man who marries his brother's wife does something that is unclean. He has brought shame on his brother; the couple will have no children.
Whoever shall take his brother's wife, it is uncleanness; he has uncovered his brother's nakedness; they shall die childless.
22 So keep all my rules and regulations, so that the land where I'm taking you to live won't vomit you out.
And keep ye all my ordinances, and my judgments; and ye shall do them, and the land shall not be aggrieved with you, into which I bring you to dwell upon it.
23 Don't follow the practices of the nations I'm expelling for you. I detested them because they did all these evil things.
And walk ye not in the customs of the nations which I drive out from before you; for they have done all these things, and I have abhorred them:
24 But I have promised you that you will take over their land. I'm going to give it to you to own, a land that flows with milk and honey. I am the Lord your God, who has made you a distinctive people different from all others.
and I said to you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you for a possession, [even] a land flowing with milk and honey: I [am] the Lord your God, who have separated you from all people.
25 So make sure you observe the difference between clean and unclean animals and birds. Don't make yourselves unclean because of any animal or bird, or by anything that runs along the ground. I have made the difference clear: they are unclean for you.
And ye shall make a distinction between the clean and the unclean cattle, and between clean and unclean birds; and ye shall not defile your souls with cattle, or with birds, or with any creeping things of the earth, which I have separated for you by reason of uncleanness.
26 You shall be holy to me because I am holy. I am the Lord, and I have made you a distinctive people different from all other nations. You belong to me.
And ye shall be holy to me; because I the Lord your God [am] holy, who separated you from all nations, to be mine.
27 Anyone, man or a woman, who is a medium or a spiritist must be executed. They are to be stoned to death; they bear the responsibility for their punishment.”
And [as for] a man or woman whosoever of them shall have in them a divining spirit, or be an enchanter, let them both die the death: ye shall stone them with stones, they are guilty.
