< Leviticus 11 >
1 The Lord told Moses and Aaron,
Nake Jehova akĩĩra Musa na Harũni atĩrĩ,
2 “Give these instructions to the Israelites. These are the animals you are allowed to eat:
“Ĩrai andũ a Isiraeli ũũ, ‘Gatagatĩ-inĩ ka nyamũ ciothe iria irĩ bũrũri-inĩ-rĩ, ici nĩcio mũngĩrĩa:
3 any animal that both has a divided hoof and also chews the cud.
No mũrĩe nyamũ o yothe ĩrĩ mahũngũ marekanĩtie gatagatĩ biũ na ĩcookagia ithagumia.
4 However, if it either chews the cud, or has a divided hoof, then you may not eat it. These include: the camel, which though it chews the cud doesn't have a divided hoof, so it is unclean for you.
“‘Nĩ kũrĩ nyamũ imwe icookagia o ithagumia tu, na ingĩ irĩ o mahũngũ marekanĩtie; icio mũtikanacirĩe. Ngamĩĩra o na aakorwo nĩĩcookagia ithagumia-rĩ, mahũngũ mayo matirekanĩtie; ĩyo ĩrĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ.
5 The rock hyrax, which though it chews the cud doesn't have a divided hoof, so it is unclean for you.
Gĩkami o na aakorwo nĩgĩcookagia ithagumia-rĩ, mahũngũ makĩo matirekanĩtie; kĩu kĩrĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ.
6 The hare, which though it chews the cud doesn't have a divided hoof, so it is unclean for you.
Mbũkũ o na aakorwo nĩĩcookagia ithagumia-rĩ, mahũngũ mayo matirekanĩtie; ĩyo ĩrĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ.
7 The pig, which though it has a divided hoof doesn't chew the cud, so it is unclean for you.
Nayo ngũrwe o na akorwo mahũngũ mayo nĩmarekanĩtie biũ-rĩ, ndĩcookagia ithagumia; ĩyo ĩrĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ.
8 You are not to eat their meat or touch their bead bodies. They are unclean for you.
Mũtikanarĩe nyama ciacio kana mũhutie ciimba ciacio; icio irĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ.
9 You are allowed to eat any creature with fins and scales that lives in the water, whether in the sea or in fresh water.
“‘Harĩ ciũmbe ciothe iria itũũraga maaĩ-inĩ ma iria na ma tũrũũĩ-rĩ, no mũrĩe ciothe iria irĩ mathagu manyiitaine na nĩ irĩ ngaracũ mwĩrĩ.
10 But you are not allowed to eat any of the many creatures that don't have fins and scales that live in the water, whether in the sea or in fresh water.
No ciũmbe ciothe iria irĩ iria-inĩ kana tũrũũĩ-inĩ, na itirĩ mathagu manyiitaine o hamwe na ngaracũ mwĩrĩ, irĩ imwe cia iria ithiiaga irĩ hamwe, kana irĩ ciothe cia iria irĩ muoyo kũu maaĩ-inĩ; no nginya mũcithũũre biũ.
11 They are repulsive. You must not eat their meat, and you must treat their dead bodies as repulsive.
Na tondũ no nginya mũcithũũre-rĩ, mũtikanarĩe nyama ciacio, na no nginya mũthũũre ciimba ciacio biũ.
12 All such water creatures that don't have fins and scales are to be repulsive to you.
Kĩndũ o gĩothe gĩtũũraga maaĩ-inĩ na gĩtirĩ mathagu manyiitaine kana ngaracũ mwĩrĩ, nĩciagũthũũrwo nĩ inyuĩ biũ.
13 As for the birds, these must not be eaten because they are repulsive: eagle, griffon vulture, bearded vulture,
“‘Ici nĩcio nyoni iria mwagĩrĩirwo nĩgũthũũra na mũtangĩrĩa tondũ nĩ thũũre; nacio nĩ nderi, na ndiyũ, na ndiyũ iria njirũ,
14 buzzard, kite and similar birds of prey,
16 tawny owl, long-eared owl, gulls, any kind of hawk,
17 little owl, fish owl, eagle owl,
18 barn owl, desert owl, Egyptian vulture,

19 storks and any kind of heron, hoopoe, and bats.
20 All flying insects that crawl are repulsive to you.
“‘Tũnyamũ tuothe tũrĩa tũmbũkaga na tũthiiagĩra thĩ na magũrũ mana nĩ mwagĩrĩirwo nĩ gũtũthũũra mũno.
21 But you can eat the following kinds of flying insects that crawl: those that have jointed legs they use to jump.
22 So in this category you can eat any kind of locust, bald locust, cricket, or grasshopper.
23 All other flying insects that crawl are repulsive to you,
No tũnyamũ tũu tũngĩ tuothe tũrĩ mathagu na tũrĩ na magũrũ mana no nginya mũtũthũũre mũno.
24 and will make you unclean. If you touch their dead bodies you will be unclean until the evening,
“‘Nĩmũgethaahia na maũndũ maya; ũrĩa wothe ũngĩhutia ciimba ciatuo agaatinda arĩ na thaahu o nginya hwaĩ-inĩ.
25 and if you pick up one of their dead bodies you must wash your clothes, and you will be unclean until the evening.
Mũndũ o wothe ũkooya kĩimba gĩatuo no nginya athambie nguo ciake, na nĩagatinda arĩ na thaahu o nginya hwaĩ-inĩ.
26 Every animal with hooves that are not divided, or that does not chew the cud, is unclean for you. If you touch any of them you will be unclean.
“‘Nyamũ o yothe ĩrekanĩtie mahũngũ no matirekanĩtie biũ, kana ĩrĩa ĩtacookagia ithagumia, ĩyo ĩrĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ; mũndũ o wothe ũkaahutia kĩimba kĩa ĩmwe yacio nĩakanyiitwo nĩ thaahu.
27 Any four-legged animal that walks on its paws are unclean for you. If you touch their dead bodies you will be unclean until the evening,
Harĩ nyamũ ciothe iria ithiiaga na magũrũ mana-rĩ, iria ikinyaga na ithu irĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ; mũndũ ũrĩa wothe ũkaahutia ciimba ciacio agaatinda arĩ na thaahu o nginya hwaĩ-inĩ.
28 and if you pick up one of their dead bodies you must wash your clothes, and you will be unclean until the evening. They are unclean for you.
Mũndũ o wothe ũngĩoya ciimba ciacio no nginya athambie nguo ciake, na atiinde arĩ na thaahu o nginya hwaĩ-inĩ. Icio irĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ.
29 The following animals that run along the ground are unclean for you: rats, mice, any kind of large lizard,
“‘Harĩ nyamũ ciothe iria ithiiagĩra thĩ, ici nĩcio irĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ: mũrũngũru na mbĩa, na njagathi iria nene cia mĩthemba yothe,
30 gecko, monitor lizard, wall lizard, skinks, and chameleon.
na gĩthenyũka, na kĩgurumũki, na njagathi, na gĩcagathi kĩrĩa kĩa mahiga-inĩ, na kĩĩmbu.
31 These animals that run along the ground are unclean for you. If you touch a dead one of them you will be unclean until the evening.
Harĩ iria ciothe ithiiagĩra thĩ, ici irĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ. Mũndũ o wothe ũngĩcihutia ikuĩte-rĩ, agaatinda arĩ na thaahu o nginya hwaĩ-inĩ.
32 Anything that one of them dies and lands on becomes unclean. Whatever it is—something made of wood, clothing, leather, sackcloth, or any work tool—it must be washed with water and will be unclean until the evening. Then it will become clean.
Rĩrĩa ĩmwe yacio ĩngĩkua na ĩgũĩre kĩndũ, kĩndũ kĩu o na kĩngĩkorwo kĩrĩ kĩa wĩra ũrĩkũ, nĩgĩkanyiitwo nĩ thaahu, o na aakorwo gĩthondeketwo na mbaũ, kana gĩtambaya, kana rũũa kana ikũnia. Nĩkĩrindwo maaĩ-inĩ; gĩgaakorwo kĩrĩ na thaahu o nginya hwaĩ-inĩ, na nĩgĩgacooka gĩthirwo nĩ thaahu.
33 If one of them falls into a clay pot, all that's in it becomes unclean. You must smash the pot.
34 If water from that pot touches any food, that food becomes unclean, and any drink from a pot like that also becomes unclean.
Irio o ciothe ingĩrĩĩo no ikorwo irĩ na maaĩ moimĩte nyũngũ-inĩ ta ĩyo irĩ na thaahu, na kĩndũ o gĩothe gĩa kũnyuuo kiumĩte thĩinĩ wayo kĩrĩ na thaahu.
35 Anything that one of their dead bodies falls on becomes unclean. If it's an oven or a stove, it must be smashed. It is permanently unclean for you.
Kĩndũ o gĩothe kĩngĩkaagwĩrwo nĩ kĩimba kĩmwe gĩacio, nĩgĩkanyiitwo nĩ thaahu; riiko kana nyũngũ ya kũruga no nginya ciũragwo. Indo icio irĩ na thaahu, nacio indo icio nĩigatuĩka thaahu harĩ inyuĩ.
36 On the other hand, if it's a spring or cistern containing water then it will remain clean, but if you touch one of these dead bodies in it you will be unclean.
No rĩrĩ, gĩthima kana irima rĩa maaĩ, icio itingĩnyiitwo nĩ thaahu, no mũndũ o wothe ũkaahutia kĩimba kĩmwe kĩa indo icio irĩ thaahu nĩakanyiitwo nĩ thaahu.
37 Similarly, if one of their dead bodies falls on any seed used for sowing, the seed remains clean;
Kĩimba kĩngĩkaagwĩra mbeũ o na irĩkũ cia kũhaandwo, itikanyiitwo nĩ thaahu.
38 but if the seed has been soaked in water and one of their dead bodies falls on it, it is unclean for you.
No mbeũ icio ingĩkorwo irindĩtwo maaĩ-inĩ, nakĩo kĩimba gĩcigũĩre, mbeũ icio irĩ na thaahu harĩ inyuĩ.
39 If an animal that you are allowed to eat dies, anyone who touches the dead body will be unclean until the evening.
“‘Nyamũ ĩrĩa mwĩtĩkĩrĩtio kũrĩa ĩngĩkua, mũndũ o wothe ũkaahutia kĩimba kĩayo agaatinda arĩ na thaahu o nginya hwaĩ-inĩ.
40 If you eat anything from the dead body you must wash your clothes and you will be unclean until the evening. If you pick up the dead body you must wash your clothes and you will be unclean until the evening.
Mũndũ o wothe ũngĩrĩa nyama cia kĩimba kĩu no nginya athambie nguo ciake, nake agaatinda arĩ na thaahu o nginya hwaĩ-inĩ. Mũndũ o wothe ũngĩoya kĩimba kĩu no nginya athambie nguo ciake, nake atiinde arĩ na thaahu o nginya hwaĩ-inĩ.
41 Every animal that crawls along the ground is repulsive—you must not eat it.
“‘Kĩũmbe gĩothe kĩrĩa gĩtambaga thĩ nĩgĩthũũre; ti gĩa kũrĩĩo.
42 Don't eat any animal that crawls along the ground, whether it moves on its belly or walks on four feet or many feet. All such animals are repulsive.
Mũtikanarĩe kĩũmbe gĩothe kĩrĩa gĩtambaga thĩ, kana gĩthiiaga na nda, kana na magũrũ mothe mana, kana magũrũ maingĩ; icio mũcithũũre mũno.
43 Don't defile yourselves by any such crawling animal. Don't make yourselves unclean or defiled by them,
Mũtikanethaahie na kĩũmbe o na kĩmwe gĩacio. Mũtikaneĩkĩre thaahu nĩ ũndũ wacio kana mũreke imũgwatie thaahu.
44 because I am the Lord your God; so dedicate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Don't defile yourselves by any animal that crawls along the ground.
Niĩ nĩ niĩ Jehova Ngai wanyu; mwĩamũrei na mwĩtherie, tondũ niĩ ndĩ mũtheru. Mũtikanethaahie na kĩũmbe o gĩothe kĩrĩa gĩtambaga thĩ.
45 I am the Lord who led you out of Egypt so that I could be your God. So be holy, because I am holy.
Niĩ nĩ niĩ Jehova ũrĩa wamũrutire kuuma bũrũri wa Misiri nduĩke Ngai wanyu; nĩ ũndũ ũcio mwĩtheriei, tondũ niĩ ndĩ mũtheru.
46 These are the regulations about animals, birds, everything that lives in the water, and all animals that crawl along the ground.
“‘Macio nĩmo mawatho marĩa makoniĩ nyamũ, na nyoni, na kĩndũ gĩothe kĩrĩ muoyo kĩrĩa gĩthiiagĩra maaĩ-inĩ, na kĩũmbe o ro gĩothe kĩrĩa gĩtambaga thĩ.
47 You must recognize the difference between unclean and clean, between those animals that can be eaten and those that can't.”
No nginya mũkũũranage nyamũ iria irĩ thaahu na iria itarĩ thaahu, na mũkũũranage ciũmbe iria irĩ muoyo ingĩrĩĩo na iria itangĩrĩĩo.’”
