< Lamentations 1 >
1 How desolate sits the city of Jerusalem, once filled with people! She has become like a widow, she who was once great among the nations. The queen of all the world has become a slave-laborer.
How! - she sits alone the city great of people she has become like a widow ([one] great *L(abh)*) among the nations a princess among the provinces she has become forced labor.
2 She cries bitterly through the night, tears rolling down her cheeks. Despite all her many lovers, no one comes to comfort her. Betrayed by all her friends, they are now her enemies.
Bitterly she weeps in the night and tear[s] her [are] on cheek her not [belongs] to her a comforter from all lovers her all friends her they have dealt treacherously with her they have become of her enemies.
3 Judah has been dragged off into captivity, suffering miserably under brutal slavery; she lives among the nations but has no place of her own where she can rest. Those chasing her have brought her down and she cannot escape.
She has gone into exile Judah from affliction and from an abundance of servitude her she dwells among the nations not she has found a resting place all pursuers her they have overtaken her between the narrow places.
4 Even the roads to Zion are in mourning because no one travels on them to go to the religious festivals. All her gates are empty. Her priests groan in sadness. Her girls are suffering. She herself is in bitter distress.
[the] roads of Zion [are] mourning because not [those who] come an appointed feast all gates her [are] desolate priests her [are] groaning virgins her [are] grieving and she it is bitter to her.
5 Those who hated her now control her; her enemies enjoy life, because the Lord has made her suffer due to all her sins of rebellion. Her children have been taken away as prisoners of the enemy.
They have become opponents her a head enemies her they are at ease for Yahweh he has caused grief to her on [the] multitude of transgressions her children her they have gone captivity before an opponent.
6 All the glory has left the Daughter of Zion. Her leaders are like deer that can't find any grass to eat. They don't even have the strength to run away when the hunter comes after them!
And it has gone out (from from [the] daughter of *Q(K)*) Zion all splendor her they have become princes her like deer [which] not they have found pasture and they have gone with not strength before a pursuer.
7 As she wanders around in her misery, Jerusalem thinks back to all the wonderful things she once had in the old days. When her enemies conquered her people, she didn't receive any help. Her enemies gloated over her, and laughed at her downfall.
She has remembered Jerusalem [the] days of affliction her and homelessness her all precious things her which they were from days of antiquity when fell people her in [the] hand of an opponent and not a helper [belonged] to her they saw her opponents they laughed at annihilation her.
8 Jerusalem sinned terribly which is why she is now treated as someone unclean. Everyone who used to honor her now despise her, because they've seen her naked and ashamed. She herself groans as she turns away.
Sin she has sinned Jerusalem there-fore impurity she has become all [those who] honored her they despise her for they have seen nakedness her also she has groaned and she has turned away backward.
9 Her uncleanness contaminates her skirts. She didn't think about what would happen. Her fall was a shock, and no one was there to comfort her. “Please, Lord, see how much I'm suffering, because the enemy has won!” she says.
Uncleanness her [was] on skirts her not she remembered outcome her and she has come down wonders not a comforter [belonged] to her see O Yahweh affliction my for it has magnified itself [the] enemy.
10 The invader has stolen all her treasures. She even had to watch as heathen nations went into her sanctuary, people you had forbidden to enter.
Hand his he has spread out [the] opponent over all precious things her for it saw nations [which] they went sanctuary its which you had commanded not they will come in the assembly of you.
11 All her people groan, looking for bread. They have spent what they value the most to buy food so they can stay alive. “Please, Lord, look and see what's happening to me,” she says. “It's as if I'm worthless!
All people its [are] groaning [are] seeking bread they have given (precious things their *Q(K)*) for food to restore life see O Yahweh and look! for I am despised.
12 Don't you care anything about it, all you people passing by? Take a look and see! Is there any suffering as bad as mine, punished by the Lord when he became angry?
Not to you O all [those who] pass by of [the] road look and see if there [is] pain like pain my which it has been done to me which he has caused grief Yahweh on [the] day of [the] burning of anger his.
13 He sent down fire from heaven that destroyed my bones. He spread out a net to catch my feet, tripping me over. He abandoned me, leaving me sick all day long.
From a high place he sent fire in bones my and he mastered it he spread out a net for feet my he made turn back me backward he made me desolate all the day faint.
14 He took my rebellious sins and twisted them together into a yoke that he tied to my neck. He took away all my strength, and handed me over defenseless to my enemies.
It has been bound on [the] yoke of transgressions my by hand his they are woven together they have come up on neck my he has made feeble strength my he has given me [the] Lord in [the] hands of [those whom] not I am able to stand.
15 The Lord brushed aside all my strong soldiers defending me. He called up an army to attack me, to crush my young men. The Lord has trampled down the virgin Daughter of Judah like grapes in a winepress.
He has thrown away all mighty [ones] my - [the] Lord in midst my he has proclaimed on me an appointed meeting to break young men my a winepress he has trodden [the] Lord for [the] virgin of [the] daughter of Judah.
16 This is why I'm weeping, tears flowing from my eyes, because there's is no one here to comfort me, no one to make me feel better. There's nothing left for my children because the enemy has conquered us.”
On these [things] - I [am] weeping eye my - eye my [is] going down water for he is far from me a comforter [one who] restores life my they are children my desolate for he has prevailed [the] enemy.
17 Zion holds out her hands in distress, but there's no one to comfort her. The Lord issued orders against Jacob, and his neighbors became his enemies. Jerusalem is to them something disgusting.
It has spread out Zion hands its not a comforter [belongs] to it he has commanded Yahweh of Jacob [those] around him [will be] opponents his it has become Jerusalem an impure thing between them.
18 “The Lord has done what's right, because I rebelled against his instructions. Listen, everyone everywhere; look at what I'm suffering. My young women and young men have been taken off into captivity.
[is] righteous He Yahweh for mouth his I have been rebellious listen please O all (the peoples *Q(K)*) and see pain my young women my and young men my they have gone in captivity.
19 I called out for help to my lovers, but they betrayed me. My priests and elders starved to death in the city as they tried to find food to keep themselves alive.
I called to lovers my they they deceived me priests my and elders my in the city they perished for they sought food for themselves so they may be restored life their.
20 Can't you see, Lord, how upset I am? inside I am in turmoil; my heart is breaking because I've been so rebellious. Outside, the sword kills those I love; inside, it's like I'm living in the house of death.
See O Yahweh for distress [belongs] to me inward parts my they are in turmoil it has been overturned heart my in inner being my for extremely I have been rebellious from outside it has bereaved a sword [is] in the house like death.
21 People hear me groaning, but no one comes to comfort me. All my enemies have heard about the bad things that have happened to me, and they're delighted that it was you who did it. Please bring about the day of judgment that you promised so they can end up like me.
They heard that [was] groaning I not a comforter [belonged] to me all enemies my they heard distress my they rejoiced for you you have acted you have brought [the] day [which] you proclaimed and they may be like me.
22 May you see all the evil things they've done! Treat them the same way as you've treated me as a result of all my rebellious sins, for I'm groaning all the time, and I'm sick at heart.”
May it come all wickedness their before you and deal severely to them just as you have dealt severely to me on all transgressions my for [are] many groaning my and heart my [is] faint.
