Jonah 4
1 But this really upset Jonah, and he became very angry.
Pero esto enojó a Jonás, y se llenó de rabia.
2 He prayed to the Lord and told him, “Lord, wasn't this what I said when I was back home? That's why I ran away to Tarshish in the first place! For I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, very patient and full of kindhearted love, who relents from sending disaster.
Y oró al Señor y le dijo: “Señor, ¿no era esto lo que yo te decía cuando estaba en mi casa? ¡Por eso huí a Tarsis desde el principio! Porque yo sabia que eres un Dios misericordioso y compasivo, muy paciente y lleno de amor, que se arrepiente de enviar el desastre.
3 So just kill me now, Lord, because I'd prefer to die than to live!”
¡Así que mejor mátame ahora, Señor, porque preferiría eso que vivir!”
4 The Lord responded, “Do you have a good reason to be so angry?”
Y el Señor respondió: “¿Tienes una buena razón para estar enojado?”
5 Jonah left the city and sat down to the east of it. There he made himself a shelter so he could sit in the shade and watch what would happen to the city.
Entonces Jonás se fue de la ciudad y se sentó en un lugar en el Este. Allí se construyó un refugio donde podía sentarse bajo la sombra para ver desde allí lo que le sucedería a la ciudad.
6 The Lord God had a plant grow up and provide shade over Jonah's head to ease his discomfort. Jonah was very happy with the plant.
El Señor Dios hizo que creciera una planta para que le brindara sombra a Jonás sobre su cabeza, y así aliviar su molestia. Jonás estaba muy contento con la planta.
7 The next day at dawn the Lord had a maggot attack the plant and it withered.
Al día siguiente, al amanecer, Dios mandó un gusano para que se comiera la planta, y esta se marchitó.
8 Then as the sun came up the Lord arranged for a scorching east wind to blow, and the sun beat down on Jonah's head so that he became faint and wanted to die. “I'd rather die than live!” he said.
Entonces, cuando el sol salió en lo alto, Dios mandó un viento del este, y el sol quemó la cabeza de Jonás, por lo que Jonás desmayaba y deseaba morir. “¡Prefiero morir que estar vivo!” dijo.
9 But the Lord asked Jonah, “Do you have a good reason to be so angry about the plant?” “Yes I do!” Jonah replied. “I'm angry enough to die!”
Pero el Señor le preguntó: “¿tienes una Buena razón para estar enojado por la planta?” “¡Por supuesto que sí!” respondió Jonás. “¡Estoy enojado hasta la muerte!”
10 Then the Lord told Jonah, “You're concerned about a plant which you did nothing about, and you didn't make it grow. It came up overnight and died overnight.
Entonces el Señor le dijo a Jonás: “Te preocupa una planta por la cual no hiciste nada, y no la hiciste crecer. Salió de un día para otro y murió de un día para otro.
11 Shouldn't I be concerned about the great city of Nineveh where one hundred and twenty thousand people live who don't know their right hand from their left, not to mention all the animals?”
¿No debería yo estar preocupado por la gran ciudad de Nínive, donde habitan ciento veinte mil personas que no saben dónde está su derecha y dónde está su izquierda, sin mencionar a los animales?”
