< John 6 >
1 After this, Jesus left to go to the other side of the Sea of Galilee (also known as the Sea of Tiberias).
Oluvannyuma lw’ebyo, Yesu n’asomoka ennyanja ey’e Ggaliraaya, era eyitibwa ey’e Tiberiya.
2 A large crowd was following him, for they'd seen his miracles of healing.
Ekibiina ky’abantu kinene ne bamugoberera, kubanga baalaba ebyamagero bye yakola ng’awonya abalwadde.
3 Jesus went up a hill and sat down there with his disciples.
Awo Yesu n’alinnya ku lusozi n’atuula wansi n’abayigirizwa be.
4 The time for the Jewish festival of the Passover was approaching.
Embaga y’Abayudaaya eyitibwa Okuyitako yali eri kumpi okutuuka.
5 When Jesus looked up, and saw a large crowd coming towards him, he asked Philip, “Where can we buy enough bread to feed all these people?”
Yesu bwe yayimusa amaaso n’alaba ekibiina ky’abantu ekinene, nga bajja gy’ali, n’agamba Firipo nti, “Tunaagula wa emmere okuliisa abantu abo bonna?”
6 He only asked this to see how Philip would respond, because Jesus already knew what he was going to do.
Yayogera atyo kugezesa Firipo, kubanga Yesu yali amanyi ky’agenda okukola.
7 “Two hundred silver coins wouldn't buy enough bread to give everyone even just a little,” Philip replied.
Firipo n’amuddamu nti, “Emmere egula eddinaali ebikumi ebibiri teesobole na kubabuna, buli omu okulyako akatono.”
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up.
Awo omu ku bayigirizwa be, Andereya muganda wa Simooni Peetero, n’amugamba nti,
9 “There's a boy here who has five barley loaves and a couple of fish, but what good is that when there are so many people?”
“Wano waliwo omulenzi alina emigaati etaano egya sayiri, n’ebyennyanja bibiri. Naye bino binaagasa ki abantu abangi bwe bati?”
10 “Have everybody sit down,” Jesus said. There was plenty of grass there, so they all sat down, the men numbering around five thousand.
Yesu n’abagamba nti, “Mutuuze abantu.” Waaliwo omuddo mungi mu kifo ekyo. Awo abantu ne batuula, ne baba abasajja ng’enkumi ttaano.
11 Jesus took the bread, gave thanks, and had it handed out to the people as they sat there. Then he did the same with the fishes, making sure the people had as much as they wanted.
Awo Yesu n’atoola emigaati ne yeebaza Katonda, n’agabula abantu abatudde. N’ebyennyanja n’akola bw’atyo. Bonna ne balya ne bakkuta.
12 Once they were all full, he said to his disciples, “Collect what's left over so nothing is wasted.”
Oluvannyuma Yesu n’agamba abayigirizwa be nti, “Kale mukuŋŋaanye obutundutundu obusigaddewo tuleme kufiirwa.”
13 So they collected and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves the people had eaten.
Ne babukuŋŋaanya, ne bajjuza ebisero kkumi na bibiri eby’obutundutundu obwava mu migaati etaano egya sayiri, obwasigalawo nga bamaze okulya.
14 When the people saw this miracle, they said, “Surely this is the Prophet who was to come into the world.”
Abantu bwe baalaba ekyamagero Yesu kye yakola ne bagamba nti, “Ddala ono ye Nnabbi oli alindirirwa okujja mu nsi!”
15 Jesus realized that they were about to force him to become their king, so he left them and went up into the hills to be by himself.
Yesu bwe yategeera nti bategeka okumukwata bamufuule kabaka waabwe n’addayo yekka ku lusozi.
16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,
Obudde bwe bwawungeera abayigirizwa ba Yesu ne baserengeta ku nnyanja
17 climbed into a boat, and headed across the water towards Capernaum. By now it was night and Jesus had not joined them yet.
ne basaabala mu lyato ne boolekera Kaperunawumu. N’obudde bwali buzibye nga ne Yesu tannaba kutuuka gye bali.
18 A strong wind began blowing and the sea grew rough.
Awo omuyaga ne gukunta mungi, ennyanja n’esiikuuka.
19 When they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, coming towards the boat. They were very frightened.
Bwe baavugako kilomita nga ttaano oba mukaaga, ne balaba Yesu ng’atambulira ku mazzi, ng’asemberera eryato, ne batya.
20 “Don't be afraid!” he told them. “It's me.”
Yesu n’abagamba nti, “Ye Nze, temutya!”
21 Then they gladly took him into the boat, and immediately they reached the shore where they were going.
Ne baagala okumuyingiza mu lyato, amangwago eryato ne ligoba ku ttale gye baali bagenda.
22 The next day the crowd that had stayed on the other side of the sea noticed that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not got into the boat with his disciples, but they had left without him.
Ku lunaku olwaddirira, ekibiina ky’abantu abaasigala emitala w’eri, ne balabawo eryato limu lyokka, ne bamanya ng’abayigirizwa be baawunguka bokka mu lyato.
23 Then other boats arrived from Tiberias, landing near to the place where they'd eaten the bread once the Lord had blessed it.
Kyokka amaato ne gava e Tiberiya ne gagoba awo kumpi n’ekifo abantu we baaliira emigaati Yesu gye yabawa ng’amaze okwebaza.
24 Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went over to Capernaum, looking for Jesus.
Awo abantu bwe baalaba nga Yesu taliiwo wadde abayigirizwa be, ne bakwata amaato ne bawunguka ne batuuka e Kaperunawumu nga banoonya Yesu.
25 When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”
Bwe baamulaba emitala w’ennyanja ne bamubuuza nti, “Labbi, watuuse ddi wano?”
26 “I tell you the truth,” Jesus replied, “you're looking for me because you ate as much bread as you wanted, not because you understood the miracles.
Yesu n’abaddamu nti, “Ddala ddala mbagamba nti munnoonya si lwa kubanga mwalaba obubonero, naye lwa kubanga mwalya emigaati ne mukkuta.
27 Don't be preoccupied about food that doesn't last, but concentrate on the lasting food of eternal life which the Son of man will give you, for God the Father has placed his seal of approval on him.” (aiōnios )
Temukolerera mmere eggwaawo, wabula munoonye emmere ebeerera era etuusa mu bulamu obutaggwaawo, Omwana w’Omuntu gy’alibawa, kubanga Kitaawe w’Omwana amussizaako akabonero.” (aiōnios )
28 So they asked him, “What do we have to do in order to do what God wants?”
Awo ne bamubuuza nti, “Tukole ki okutuukiriza ekyo Katonda ky’ayagala?”
29 Jesus replied, “What God wants you to do is to trust in the one he sent.”
Yesu n’abaddamu nti, “Katonda ky’ayagala mukole kwe kukkiriza oyo gwe yatuma.”
30 “What miracle are you going to perform for us to see so we can trust you? What are you able to do?” they asked.
Ne bamugamba nti, “Kale kabonero ki ggwe k’okola, tulabe tukukkirize? Onookola kabonero ki?
31 “Our forefathers ate manna in the desert in fulfillment of the Scripture that says, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”
Bajjajjaffe baalya emmaanu mu ddungu nga bwe kyawandiikibwa nti, ‘Yabawa emmere okuva mu ggulu balye.’”
32 “I tell you the truth, it wasn't Moses who gave you bread from heaven,” Jesus replied. “It's my Father who gives you the true bread of heaven.
Awo Yesu n’abagamba nti, “Ddala ddala mbagamba nti Musa si ye yabawa emmere eva mu ggulu, wabula Kitange ye yabawa emmere ey’amazima eva mu ggulu.
33 For the bread of God is the one who comes from heaven and gives life to the world.”
Emmere ya Katonda ye eva mu ggulu, era ye awa ensi obulamu.”
34 “Lord, please give us this kind of bread all the time!” they said.
Ne bamugamba nti, “Mukama waffe, tuwenga emmere eyo buli lunaku.”
35 “I am the bread of life,” Jesus replied. “Anyone who comes to me will never be hungry again, and anyone who trusts in me will never be thirsty again.
Yesu n’abaddamu nti, “Nze mmere ey’obulamu. Ajja gye ndi enjala teriddayo kumuluma, era abo abanzikiriza tebaliddayo kulumwa nnyonta.
36 But as I explained to you before, you have seen me, but you still don't trust me.
Naye nabagamba nti mundabye naye era ne mutanzikiriza.
37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and I won't reject any of them.
Buli muntu Kitange gw’ampa alijja gye ndi, era buli ajja gye ndi sirimugobera bweru.
38 For I came down from heaven not to do what I want, but to do what the one who sent me wants.
Kubanga ekyanzigya mu ggulu kwe kukola ekyo Katonda eyantuma ky’ayagala, so si Nze bye njagala ku bwange.
39 What he wants is for me not to lose anyone he has given to me, but for me to raise them up at the last day.
Eyantuma ky’ayagala kye kino: Ku abo be yampa nneme kubulwako n’omu wabula bonna mbazuukize ku lunaku olw’enkomerero.
40 What my Father wants is for everyone who sees the Son and trusts in him to have eternal life, and for me to raise them up at the last day.” (aiōnios )
Kubanga Kitange ky’ayagala kye kino nti buli alaba Omwana we n’amukkiriza afuna obulamu obutaggwaawo ku lunaku olw’enkomerero.” (aiōnios )
41 Then the Jews began to grumble about him because he had said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”
Awo Abayudaaya ne batandika okwemulugunyiza Yesu, kubanga yabagamba nti, “Nze mmere eyava mu ggulu.”
42 They said, “Isn't this Jesus, the son of Joseph? We know his father and his mother. So how can he now tell us, ‘I came down from heaven’?”
Ne bagamba nti, “Ono si ye Yesu omwana wa Yusufu? Kitaawe ne nnyina tubamanyi. Kale ayinza atya okugamba nti, ‘Nava mu ggulu?’”
43 “Stop grumbling to each other,” Jesus said.
Yesu n’abagamba nti, “Temwemulugunya.
44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me attracts them, and I will raise them up at the last day.
Tewali ayinza kujja gye ndi wabula nga Kitange eyantuma amuyise, era Nze ndimuzuukiza ku lunaku olw’enkomerero.
45 As is written in Scripture by the prophets, ‘Everyone will be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to and learns from the Father comes to me.
Kubanga kyawandiikibwa mu bannabbi nti, ‘Bonna baliyigirizibwa Katonda.’ Era buli gw’ayigiriza n’ategeera amazima ajja gye ndi.
46 Not that anyone has seen God, except he who is from God; he has seen the Father.
Si kuba nti waliwo eyali alabye ku Kitange, wabula oyo eyava eri Katonda, ye yalaba Kitaawe.
47 I tell you the truth: anyone who trusts in him has eternal life. (aiōnios )
Ddala ddala mbagamba nti, Akkiriza aba n’obulamu obutaggwaawo! (aiōnios )
48 I am the bread of life.
Nze mmere ey’obulamu.
49 Your forefathers ate manna in the desert but they still died.
Bajjajjammwe baalya emaanu mu ddungu ne bafa.
50 But this is the bread that comes down from heaven, and anyone who eats it won't ever die.
Eno y’emmere eyava mu ggulu, buli agiryako aleme okufa.
51 I am the life-giving bread from heaven, and anyone who eats this bread will live forever. The bread is my flesh that I give so that the world may live.” (aiōn )
Nze mmere ennamu eyava mu ggulu omuntu bw’alya ku mmere eno aliba mulamu emirembe n’emirembe. Emmere gye ndigaba okuleetera ensi obulamu, gwe mubiri gwange.” (aiōn )
52 Then the Jews argued heatedly among themselves. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked.
Awo Abayudaaya ne batandika okuwakana bokka na bokka nga bagamba nti, “Ono ayinza atya okutuwa omubiri gwe okugulya?”
53 Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you cannot truly live.
Yesu n’abagamba nti, “Ddala ddala mbagamba nti bwe mutalya mubiri gwa Mwana wa Muntu, ne munywa n’omusaayi gwe, temuyinza kuba na bulamu mu mmwe.
54 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. (aiōnios )
Buli alya omubiri gwange n’anywa n’omusaayi gwange, ng’afunye obulamu obutaggwaawo era ndimuzuukiza ku lunaku olw’enkomerero. (aiōnios )
55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.
Kubanga omubiri gwange kye kyokulya ddala n’omusaayi gwange kye kyokunywa ddala.
56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood remain in me, and I remain in them.
Oyo alya ku mubiri gwange era n’anywa omusaayi gwange abeera mu nze, era nange mbeera mu ye.
57 Just as the life-giving Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so anyone who feeds on me will live because of me.
Nga Kitange eyantuma bw’ali omulamu, nange bwe ndi omulamu ku bwa Kitange, noolwekyo oyo alya ku nze naye aliba mulamu ku bwange.
58 Now this is the bread that came down from heaven, not the kind your forefathers ate and still died. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever.” (aiōn )
Eno ye mmere eva mu ggulu. Teri ng’eyo bajjajjammwe gye baalya ne bafa. Alya emmere eno anaabanga mulamu emirembe n’emirembe.” (aiōn )
59 Jesus explained this while he was teaching in a synagogue at Capernaum.
Ebyo Yesu yabyogera ng’ayigiriza mu kkuŋŋaaniro e Kaperunawumu.
60 Many of his disciples when they heard it said, “This is hard to accept! Who can follow it?”
Abayigirizwa ba Yesu bangi bwe baabiwulira ne bagamba nti, “Ekigambo ekyo kizibu okutegeera. Ani asobola okutunnyonnyola ky’agamba?”
61 Jesus saw that his disciples were complaining about this, so he asked them, “Are you offended by this?
Awo Yesu bwe yategeera nga n’abayigirizwa be bakyemulugunyako, n’abagamba nti, “Ekyo kibeesittaza?
62 Then what if you were to see the Son ascend to where he was before?
Kale mulirowooza ki bwe muliraba Omwana w’Omuntu ng’addayo gye yava?
63 The Spirit gives life; the physical body doesn't do anything. The words I've told you are spirit and life!
Mwoyo Mutukuvu y’awa obulamu. Omubiri teguliiko kye gugasa. Ebigambo bye njogedde gye muli gwe mwoyo era bwe bulamu.
64 Yet there are some of you who don't trust me.” (Jesus had known from the very beginning who didn't trust him, and who would betray him.)
Naye era abamu ku mmwe temukkiriza.” Kubanga okuva ku lubereberye Yesu yategeera abatamukkiriza era n’oyo agenda okumulyamu olukwe.
65 Jesus added, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is made possible by the Father.”
Awo n’agamba nti, “Kyennava ŋŋamba nti tewali ayinza kujja gye ndi bw’atakiweebwa Kitange.”
66 From this time on many of Jesus' disciples gave up and no longer followed him.
Okuva olwo bangi ku bayigirizwa be ne bamuvaako ne bataddayo kuyita naye.
67 Then Jesus asked the twelve disciples, “What about you? Do you want to leave as well?”
Awo Yesu n’akyukira abayigirizwa be ekkumi n’ababiri n’ababuuza nti, “Nammwe mwagala kugenda?”
68 Simon Peter answered, “Lord, who would we follow? You're the one who has the words of eternal life. (aiōnios )
Simooni Peetero n’amuddamu nti, “Mukama waffe, tunaagenda eri ani? Ggwe wekka gw’olina ebigambo by’obulamu obutaggwaawo. (aiōnios )
69 We trust in you, and we're convinced that you are God's Holy One.”
Ffe tubikkiriza era tumanyi nti oli Mutukuvu wa Katonda.”
70 Jesus replied, “Didn't I choose you, the twelve disciples? Yet one of you is a devil.”
Awo Yesu kwe kubagamba nti, “Mmwe ekkumi n’ababiri si nze nabalonda? Naye omu ku mmwe Setaani!”
71 (Jesus was referring to Judas, son of Simon Iscariot. He was the one of the twelve disciples who would betray Jesus.)
Yesu yayogera ku Yuda, mutabani wa Simooni Isukalyoti, kubanga ye yali agenda okumulyamu olukwe.
