John 11
1 A man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with his sisters Mary and Martha.
அநந்தரம்’ மரியம் தஸ்யா ப⁴கி³நீ மர்தா² ச யஸ்மிந் வைத²நீயாக்³ராமே வஸதஸ்தஸ்மிந் க்³ராமே இலியாஸர் நாமா பீடி³த ஏக ஆஸீத்|
2 Mary was the one who had anointed the Lord with perfume and wiped his feet with her hair. It was her brother Lazarus who was sick.
யா மரியம் ப்ரபு⁴ம்’ ஸுக³ந்தி⁴தேலைந மர்த்³த³யித்வா ஸ்வகேஸை²ஸ்தஸ்ய சரணௌ ஸமமார்ஜத் தஸ்யா ப்⁴ராதா ஸ இலியாஸர் ரோகீ³|
3 So the sisters sent a message to Jesus: “Lord, your close friend is sick.”
அபரஞ்ச ஹே ப்ரபோ⁴ ப⁴வாந் யஸ்மிந் ப்ரீயதே ஸ ஏவ பீடி³தோஸ்தீதி கதா²ம்’ கத²யித்வா தஸ்ய ப⁴கி³ந்யௌ ப்ரேஷிதவத்யௌ|
4 When Jesus heard the news he said, “The end result of this sickness will not be death. Through this God's glory will be revealed so that the Son of God may be glorified.”
ததா³ யீஸு²ரிமாம்’ வார்த்தாம்’ ஸ்²ருத்வாகத²யத பீடே³யம்’ மரணார்த²ம்’ ந கிந்த்வீஸ்²வரஸ்ய மஹிமார்த²ம் ஈஸ்²வரபுத்ரஸ்ய மஹிமப்ரகாஸா²ர்த²ஞ்ச ஜாதா|
5 Even though Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus,
யீஸு² ர்யத்³யபிமர்தா²யாம்’ தத்³ப⁴கி³ந்யாம் இலியாஸரி சாப்ரீயத,
6 and had heard that Lazarus was sick, he remained where he was for two more days.
ததா²பி இலியாஸர: பீடா³யா: கத²ம்’ ஸ்²ருத்வா யத்ர ஆஸீத் தத்ரைவ தி³நத்³வயமதிஷ்ட²த்|
7 Then he told the disciples, “Let's return to Judea.”
தத: பரம் ஸ ஸி²ஷ்யாநகத²யத்³ வயம்’ புந ர்யிஹூதீ³யப்ரதே³ஸ²ம்’ யாம: |
8 The disciples replied, “Rabbi, just a few days ago the Jews were trying to stone you. Do you really want to go back there now?”
ததஸ்தே ப்ரத்யவத³ந், ஹே கு³ரோ ஸ்வல்பதி³நாநி க³தாநி யிஹூதீ³யாஸ்த்வாம்’ பாஷாணை ர்ஹந்தும் உத்³யதாஸ்ததா²பி கிம்’ புநஸ்தத்ர யாஸ்யஸி?
9 “Aren't there twelve hours in a day?” Jesus replied.
யீஸு²: ப்ரத்யவத³த், ஏகஸ்மிந் தி³நே கிம்’ த்³வாத³ஸ²க⁴டிகா ந ப⁴வந்தி? கோபி தி³வா க³ச்ச²ந் ந ஸ்க²லதி யத: ஸ ஏதஜ்ஜக³தோ தீ³ப்திம்’ ப்ராப்நோதி|
10 “If you walk during the day you don't stumble because you can see where you're going by the light of this world. But if you walk during the night you stumble because you have no light.”
கிந்து ராத்ரௌ க³ச்ச²ந் ஸ்க²லதி யதோ ஹேதோஸ்தத்ர தீ³ப்தி ர்நாஸ்தி|
11 After telling them this, he said, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I'm going to go there and wake him up!”
இமாம்’ கதா²ம்’ கத²யித்வா ஸ தாநவத³த்³, அஸ்மாகம்’ ப³ந்து⁴: இலியாஸர் நித்³ரிதோபூ⁴த்³ இதா³நீம்’ தம்’ நித்³ராதோ ஜாக³ரயிதும்’ க³ச்சா²மி|
12 The disciples said, “Lord, if he's sleeping then he'll get better.”
யீஸு² ர்ம்ரு’தௌ கதா²மிமாம்’ கதி²தவாந் கிந்து விஸ்²ராமார்த²ம்’ நித்³ராயாம்’ கதி²தவாந் இதி ஜ்ஞாத்வா ஸி²ஷ்யா அகத²யந்,
13 Jesus had been referring to the death of Lazarus, but the disciples thought he meant actual sleep.
ஹே கு³ரோ ஸ யதி³ நித்³ராதி தர்ஹி ப⁴த்³ரமேவ|
14 So Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead.
ததா³ யீஸு²: ஸ்பஷ்டம்’ தாந் வ்யாஹரத், இலியாஸர் அம்ரியத;
15 For your sake I'm glad I wasn't there, because now you will be able to trust in me. Let's go and see him.”
கிந்து யூயம்’ யதா² ப்ரதீத² தத³ர்த²மஹம்’ தத்ர ந ஸ்தி²தவாந் இத்யஸ்மாத்³ யுஷ்மந்நிமித்தம் ஆஹ்லாதி³தோஹம்’, ததா²பி தஸ்ய ஸமீபே யாம|
16 Thomas, the Twin, said to his fellow-disciples, “Let's go too so we can die with him.”
ததா³ தோ²மா யம்’ தி³து³மம்’ வத³ந்தி ஸ ஸங்கி³ந: ஸி²ஷ்யாந் அவத³த்³ வயமபி க³த்வா தேந ஸார்த்³த⁴ம்’ ம்ரியாமஹை|
17 When he arrived, Jesus learned that Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days.
யீஸு²ஸ்தத்ரோபஸ்தா²ய இலியாஸர: ஸ்²மஸா²நே ஸ்தா²பநாத் சத்வாரி தி³நாநி க³தாநீதி வார்த்தாம்’ ஸ்²ருதவாந்|
18 Bethany was just two miles from Jerusalem,
வைத²நீயா யிரூஸா²லம: ஸமீபஸ்தா² க்ரோஸை²கமாத்ராந்தரிதா;
19 and many Jews had come to console Mary and Martha at the loss of their brother.
தஸ்மாத்³ ப³ஹவோ யிஹூதீ³யா மர்தா²ம்’ மரியமஞ்ச ப்⁴யாத்ரு’ஸோ²காபந்நாம்’ ஸாந்த்வயிதும்’ தயோ: ஸமீபம் ஆக³ச்ச²ந்|
20 When Martha found out that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him, but Mary stayed at home.
மர்தா² யீஸோ²ராக³மநவார்தாம்’ ஸ்²ருத்வைவ தம்’ ஸாக்ஷாத்³ அகரோத் கிந்து மரியம் கே³ஹ உபவிஸ்²ய ஸ்தி²தா|
21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you'd been here, my brother wouldn't have died.
ததா³ மர்தா² யீஸு²மவாத³த், ஹே ப்ரபோ⁴ யதி³ ப⁴வாந் அத்ராஸ்தா²ஸ்யத் தர்ஹி மம ப்⁴ராதா நாமரிஷ்யத்|
22 But I'm certain that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”
கிந்த்விதா³நீமபி யத்³ ஈஸ்²வரே ப்ரார்த²யிஷ்யதே ஈஸ்²வரஸ்தத்³ தா³ஸ்யதீதி ஜாநே(அ)ஹம்’|
23 Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.”
யீஸு²ரவாதீ³த் தவ ப்⁴ராதா ஸமுத்தா²ஸ்யதி|
24 “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day,” Martha answered.
மர்தா² வ்யாஹரத் ஸே²ஷதி³வஸே ஸ உத்தா²நஸமயே ப்ரோத்தா²ஸ்யதீதி ஜாநே(அ)ஹம்’|
25 Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who trust in me will live, even though they die.
ததா³ யீஸு²: கதி²தவாந் அஹமேவ உத்தா²பயிதா ஜீவயிதா ச ய: கஸ்²சந மயி விஸ்²வஸிதி ஸ ம்ரு’த்வாபி ஜீவிஷ்யதி;
ய: கஸ்²சந ச ஜீவந் மயி விஸ்²வஸிதி ஸ கதா³பி ந மரிஷ்யதி, அஸ்யாம்’ கதா²யாம்’ கிம்’ விஸ்²வஸிஷி? (aiōn g165)
27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one expected to come to this world.”
ஸாவத³த் ப்ரபோ⁴ யஸ்யாவதரணாபேக்ஷாஸ்தி ப⁴வாந் ஸஏவாபி⁴ஷிக்த்த ஈஸ்²வரபுத்ர இதி விஸ்²வஸிமி|
28 When she had said this, she went and told her sister Mary in private, “The Teacher's here, and asking to see you.”
இதி கதா²ம்’ கத²யித்வா ஸா க³த்வா ஸ்வாம்’ ப⁴கி³நீம்’ மரியமம்’ கு³ப்தமாஹூய வ்யாஹரத் கு³ருருபதிஷ்ட²தி த்வாமாஹூயதி ச|
29 As soon as she heard, Mary quickly got up and went to see him.
கதா²மிமாம்’ ஸ்²ருத்வா ஸா தூர்ணம் உத்தா²ய தஸ்ய ஸமீபம் அக³ச்ச²த்|
30 Jesus hadn't arrived in the village yet. He was still at the place where Martha had met him.
யீஸு² ர்க்³ராமமத்⁴யம்’ ந ப்ரவிஸ்²ய யத்ர மர்தா² தம்’ ஸாக்ஷாத்³ அகரோத் தத்ர ஸ்தி²தவாந்|
31 The Jews who had been comforting Mary in the home saw how she'd got up quickly and left. So they followed her, thinking she was going to the tomb to weep there.
யே யிஹூதீ³யா மரியமா ஸாகம்’ க்³ரு’ஹே திஷ்ட²ந்தஸ்தாம் அஸாந்த்வயந தே தாம்’ க்ஷிப்ரம் உத்தா²ய க³ச்ச²ந்திம்’ விலோக்ய வ்யாஹரந், ஸ ஸ்²மஸா²நே ரோதி³தும்’ யாதி, இத்யுக்த்வா தே தஸ்யா: பஸ்²சாத்³ அக³ச்ச²ந்|
32 When Mary arrived at the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you'd been here, my brother wouldn't have died.”
யத்ர யீஸு²ரதிஷ்ட²த் தத்ர மரியம் உபஸ்தா²ய தம்’ த்³ரு’ஷ்ட்வா தஸ்ய சரணயோ: பதித்வா வ்யாஹரத் ஹே ப்ரபோ⁴ யதி³ ப⁴வாந் அத்ராஸ்தா²ஸ்யத் தர்ஹி மம ப்⁴ராதா நாமரிஷ்யத்|
33 When Jesus saw her crying, and the Jews who had come with her crying as well, he was very troubled and upset.
யீஸு²ஸ்தாம்’ தஸ்யா: ஸங்கி³நோ யிஹூதீ³யாம்’ஸ்²ச ருத³தோ விலோக்ய ஸோ²கார்த்த: ஸந் தீ³ர்க⁴ம்’ நிஸ்²வஸ்ய கதி²தவாந் தம்’ குத்ராஸ்தா²பயத?
34 “Where have you laid him?” he asked. They replied, “Lord, come and see.”
தே வ்யாஹரந், ஹே ப்ரபோ⁴ ப⁴வாந் ஆக³த்ய பஸ்²யது|
35 Then Jesus cried too.
யீஸு²நா க்ரந்தி³தம்’|
36 “See how much he loved him,” the Jews said.
அதஏவ யிஹூதீ³யா அவத³ந், பஸ்²யதாயம்’ தஸ்மிந் கித்³ரு’க்³ அப்ரியத|
37 But some of them said, “If he could open the eyes of a blind man, couldn't he have kept Lazarus from dying?”
தேஷாம்’ கேசித்³ அவத³ந் யோந்தா⁴ய சக்ஷுஷீ த³த்தவாந் ஸ கிம் அஸ்ய ம்ரு’த்யும்’ நிவாரயிதும்’ நாஸ²க்நோத்?
38 Very troubled, Jesus went to the tomb. It was a cave with a large stone placed at the entrance.
ததோ யீஸு²: புநரந்தர்தீ³ர்க⁴ம்’ நிஸ்²வஸ்ய ஸ்²மஸா²நாந்திகம் அக³ச்ச²த்| தத் ஸ்²மஸா²நம் ஏகம்’ க³ஹ்வரம்’ தந்முகே² பாஷாண ஏக ஆஸீத்|
39 “Remove the stone,” Jesus told them. But Martha, the dead man's sister, said, “Lord, by now there will be a terrible smell, for he's been dead for four days.”
ததா³ யீஸு²ரவத³த்³ ஏநம்’ பாஷாணம் அபஸாரயத, தத: ப்ரமீதஸ்ய ப⁴கி³நீ மர்தா²வத³த் ப்ரபோ⁴, அது⁴நா தத்ர து³ர்க³ந்தோ⁴ ஜாத: , யதோத்³ய சத்வாரி தி³நாநி ஸ்²மஸா²நே ஸ திஷ்ட²தி|
40 “Didn't I tell you that if you trusted me you would see God's glory?” Jesus replied.
ததா³ யீஸு²ரவாதீ³த், யதி³ விஸ்²வஸிஷி தர்ஹீஸ்²வரஸ்ய மஹிமப்ரகாஸ²ம்’ த்³ரக்ஷ்யஸி கதா²மிமாம்’ கிம்’ துப்⁴யம்’ நாகத²யம்’?
41 So they removed the stone. Jesus looked heavenwards, and said, “Father, thank you for listening to me.
ததா³ ம்ரு’தஸ்ய ஸ்²மஸா²நாத் பாஷாணோ(அ)பஸாரிதே யீஸு²ரூர்த்³வ்வம்’ பஸ்²யந் அகத²யத், ஹே பித ர்மம நேவேஸநம் அஸ்²ரு’ணோ: காரணாத³ஸ்மாத் த்வாம்’ த⁴ந்யம்’ வதா³மி|
42 I know you always listen to me. I said this because of the crowd standing here so that they will believe that you sent me.”
த்வம்’ ஸததம்’ ஸ்²ரு’ணோஷி தத³ப்யஹம்’ ஜாநாமி, கிந்து த்வம்’ மாம்’ யத் ப்ரைரயஸ்தத்³ யதா²ஸ்மிந் ஸ்தா²நே ஸ்தி²தா லோகா விஸ்²வஸந்தி தத³ர்த²ம் இத³ம்’ வாக்யம்’ வதா³மி|
43 After saying this, Jesus shouted, “Lazarus, come out!”
இமாம்’ கதா²ம்’ கத²யித்வா ஸ ப்ரோச்சைராஹ்வயத், ஹே இலியாஸர் ப³ஹிராக³ச்ச²|
44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with strips of linen, and with a cloth around his face. “Unbind him and set him free,” Jesus told them.
தத: ஸ ப்ரமீத: ஸ்²மஸா²நவஸ்த்ரை ர்ப³த்³த⁴ஹஸ்தபாதோ³ கா³த்ரமார்ஜநவாஸஸா ப³த்³த⁴முக²ஸ்²ச ப³ஹிராக³ச்ச²த்| யீஸு²ருதி³தவாந் ப³ந்த⁴நாநி மோசயித்வா த்யஜதைநம்’|
45 Consequently many of the Jews who had come to comfort Mary and who saw what Jesus did put their trust in him.
மரியம: ஸமீபம் ஆக³தா யே யிஹூதீ³யலோகாஸ்ததா³ யீஸோ²ரேதத் கர்ம்மாபஸ்²யந் தேஷாம்’ ப³ஹவோ வ்யஸ்²வஸந்,
46 But others went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.
கிந்து கேசித³ந்யே பி²ரூஸி²நாம்’ ஸமீபம்’ க³த்வா யீஸோ²ரேதஸ்ய கர்ம்மணோ வார்த்தாம் அவத³ந்|
47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the ruling council. “What shall we do?” they asked. “This man is doing many miracles.
தத: பரம்’ ப்ரதா⁴நயாஜகா: பி²ரூஸி²நாஸ்²ச ஸபா⁴ம்’ க்ரு’த்வா வ்யாஹரந் வயம்’ கிம்’ குர்ம்ம: ? ஏஷ மாநவோ ப³ஹூந்யாஸ்²சர்ய்யகர்ம்மாணி கரோதி|
48 If we allow him to continue, everybody will believe in him, and then the Romans will destroy both the Temple and our status as a nation.”
யதீ³த்³ரு’ஸ²ம்’ கர்ம்ம கர்த்தும்’ ந வாரயாமஸ்தர்ஹி ஸர்வ்வே லோகாஸ்தஸ்மிந் விஸ்²வஸிஷ்யந்தி ரோமிலோகாஸ்²சாக³த்யாஸ்மாகம் அநயா ராஜதா⁴ந்யா ஸார்த்³த⁴ம்’ ராஜ்யம் ஆசே²த்ஸ்யந்தி|
49 “You don't understand anything!” said Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
ததா³ தேஷாம்’ கியபா²நாமா யஸ்தஸ்மிந் வத்ஸரே மஹாயாஜகபதே³ ந்யயுஜ்யத ஸ ப்ரத்யவத³த்³ யூயம்’ கிமபி ந ஜாநீத²;
50 “Can't you see that it's better for you that one man die for the people so that the whole nation won't be destroyed?”
ஸமக்³ரதே³ஸ²ஸ்ய விநாஸ²தோபி ஸர்வ்வலோகார்த²ம் ஏகஸ்ய ஜநஸ்ய மரணம் அஸ்மாகம்’ மங்க³லஹேதுகம் ஏதஸ்ய விவேசநாமபி ந குருத²|
51 He didn't say this on his own behalf, but as chief priest that year he was prophesying that Jesus would die for the nation.
ஏதாம்’ கதா²ம்’ ஸ நிஜபு³த்³த்⁴யா வ்யாஹரத்³ இதி ந,
52 And this was not just for the Jewish nation, but for all the scattered children of God so that they might be gathered together and be made into one.
கிந்து யீஸூ²ஸ்தத்³தே³ஸீ²யாநாம்’ காரணாத் ப்ராணாந் த்யக்ஷ்யதி, தி³ஸி² தி³ஸி² விகீர்ணாந் ஈஸ்²வரஸ்ய ஸந்தாநாந் ஸம்’க்³ரு’ஹ்யைகஜாதிம்’ கரிஷ்யதி ச, தஸ்மிந் வத்ஸரே கியபா² மஹாயாஜகத்வபதே³ நியுக்த: ஸந் இத³ம்’ ப⁴விஷ்யத்³வாக்யம்’ கதி²தவாந்|
53 From that time on they plotted how they might kill Jesus.
தத்³தி³நமாரப்⁴ய தே கத²ம்’ தம்’ ஹந்தும்’ ஸ²க்நுவந்தீதி மந்த்ரணாம்’ கர்த்தும்’ ப்ராரேபி⁴ரே|
54 So Jesus did not travel openly among the Jews but went to a town called Ephraim in the region near the desert and stayed there with his disciples.
அதஏவ யிஹூதீ³யாநாம்’ மத்⁴யே யீஸு²: ஸப்ரகாஸ²ம்’ க³மநாக³மநே அக்ரு’த்வா தஸ்மாத்³ க³த்வா ப்ராந்தரஸ்ய ஸமீபஸ்தா²யிப்ரதே³ஸ²ஸ்யேப்²ராயிம் நாம்நி நக³ரே ஸி²ஷ்யை: ஸாகம்’ காலம்’ யாபயிதும்’ ப்ராரேபே⁴|
55 It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover, and many people went from the countryside to Jerusalem to purify themselves for the Passover.
அநந்தரம்’ யிஹூதீ³யாநாம்’ நிஸ்தாரோத்ஸவே நிகடவர்த்திநி ஸதி தது³த்ஸவாத் பூர்வ்வம்’ ஸ்வாந் ஸு²சீந் கர்த்தும்’ ப³ஹவோ ஜநா க்³ராமேப்⁴யோ யிரூஸா²லம் நக³ரம் ஆக³ச்ச²ந்,
56 People were looking for Jesus and talking about him as they stood in the Temple. “What do you think?” they asked each other. “Isn't he coming to the festival?”
யீஸோ²ரந்வேஷணம்’ க்ரு’த்வா மந்தி³ரே த³ண்டா³யமாநா: ஸந்த: பரஸ்பரம்’ வ்யாஹரந், யுஷ்மாகம்’ கீத்³ரு’ஸோ² போ³தோ⁴ ஜாயதே? ஸ கிம் உத்ஸவே(அ)ஸ்மிந் அத்ராக³மிஷ்யதி?
57 The chief priests and the Pharisees had given orders that anyone who knew where Jesus was should report it so they could arrest him.
ஸ ச குத்ராஸ்தி யத்³யேதத் கஸ்²சித்³ வேத்தி தர்ஹி த³ர்ஸ²யது ப்ரதா⁴நயாஜகா: பி²ரூஸி²நஸ்²ச தம்’ த⁴ர்த்தும்’ பூர்வ்வம் இமாம் ஆஜ்ஞாம்’ ப்ராசாரயந்|
