Job 37
1 At this my heart trembles, beating rapidly within me!
Oui, à ce bruit mon cœur s'épouvante, il s'ébranle et se déplace.
2 Listen carefully to God's thunderous voice that rumbles as he speaks.
Ecoutez! écoutez le roulement de sa voix, et le murmure qui sort de sa bouche!
3 He sends it across the heaven; his lightning flashes to the ends of the earth.
Il lui fait parcourir tout le ciel, et Il lance l'éclair jusqu'à l'horizon de la terre.
4 Then comes the roar of thunder, his majestic voice holding nothing back when he speaks.
Aussitôt sa voix mugit, Il tonne de sa voix de majesté, et ne retient plus sa foudre,
5 God's thunderous voice is wonderful! We can't comprehend the great things he does!
Dieu par sa voix produit la merveille du tonnerre; Il fait des choses grandes que nous ne comprenons point.
6 He tells the snow to fall and the rain to pour down on the earth.
Il dit à la neige: Tombe sur la terre! la pluie et les torrents de pluie attestent sa puissance.
7 By this he stops people working so that everyone can understand what he does.
Il engourdit les mains de tous les hommes, afin que tous les humains qui sont ses créatures, reconnaissent ce qu'il est.
8 Even the animals take shelter and remain in their dens.
Alors les bêtes sauvages gagnent leurs tanières, et sommeillent dans leurs cavernes.
9 The south wind blows in storms, while the north wind blows in cold weather.
La tempête sort de sa prison, et les vents impétueux amènent la froidure.
10 God's breath produces ice, freezing the surface of water solid.
Au souffle de Dieu la glace est formée, et les ondes dilatées se condensent;
11 He fills the clouds with moisture; he scatters his lightning from them.
d'humidité Il charge aussi la nue; Il épand les nuages porteurs de ses feux,
12 They swirl around under his control; they move over all the earth as he commands.
qui tournoient en tout sens, sous sa conduite, pour exécuter tout ce qu'il leur commande, sur la surface du disque de la terre;
13 He does this to accomplish his will, either to discipline or to show his goodness.
tantôt pour punir, si sa terre est coupable, tantôt pour bénir, Il les fait arriver.
14 Listen to this, Job! Stop for a moment and consider the wonderful things God does.
O Job, prête l'oreille à ces choses! continue à étudier les miracles de Dieu!
15 Do you know how God controls the clouds, or makes his lightning flash from them?
En sais-tu les causes, quand Dieu les fait paraître, et qu'il fait resplendir le feu de sa nuée?
16 Do you know how clouds float in the sky—the wonderful work of him who knows everything.
Comprends-tu le balancement des nues, merveille du Dieu parfaitement sage,
17 You know how your clothes drip with sweat when the south wind brings air that is hot and heavy.
la chaleur que prennent tes vêtements, quand la terre reçoit du midi un air qui accable?
18 Can you hammer out the sky so it becomes like a molten mirror, as he does?
Etendras-tu, comme Lui, le firmament, lui donnant la solidité d'un miroir de fonte?
19 So why don't you teach us what to tell God? We cannot make our case because we are in the dark!
Apprends-nous ce qu'il nous faut Lui dire? Ah! les ténèbres où nous sommes, nous mettent hors d'état de Lui rien proposer!…
20 Should God be told that I want to speak? Anyone who wanted to would be destroyed!
Mes discours lui seront-ils rapportés?… Mais désira-t-on jamais d'être anéanti?
21 After all, we can't look at the sun when it blazes brightly in the sky, after the wind has cleared away the clouds.
Aussi bien l'on ne regarde point fixement le soleil, quand il brille dans les airs, et qu'un vent passe, et lui rend sa pureté.
22 Out of the north God comes shining like gold, surrounded in awesome majesty.
Du Septentrion l'on peut bien tirer l'or, mais Dieu oppose un éclat formidable.
23 We cannot approach the Almighty for he is far beyond us in power and justice, and doing right.
Jusqu'au Tout-puissant nous ne saurions pénétrer! Il est éminent par la force et par l'équité, et par une souveraine justice; Il ne rend aucun compte.
24 He does not act like a tyrant—no wonder people are in awe of him, though he does not value those who think they're wise.”
Craignez-le donc, ô hommes; Il n'accorde ses regards à aucun des sages.
