Job 34
1 Then Elihu continued,
ED Elihu proseguì a parlare, e disse:
2 “Listen to my words, you men who say you are wise; pay attention to what I'm saying you who think you know.
[Voi] savi, udite i miei ragionamenti; E [voi] intendenti, porgetemi l'orecchio.
3 The ear distinguishes words just as the palate distinguishes foods.
Perciocchè l'orecchio esamina i ragionamenti, Come il palato assapora ciò che si deve mangiare.
4 Let us discern for ourselves what is right: let us decide among ourselves what is good.
Proponiamoci la dirittura, Giudichiamo fra noi che cosa [sia] bene.
5 Job said, ‘I am innocent, and God has denied me justice.
Conciossiachè Giobbe abbia detto: Io son giusto; Iddio mi ha tolta la mia ragione.
6 Even though I'm right, I'm treated like a liar; I am dying from my wounds, even though I've done nothing wrong.’
Mentirei io intorno alla mia ragione? La saetta, con la quale son ferito, [è] dolorosissima, Senza [che vi sia] misfatto [in me].
7 Has there ever been a man like Job with such a thirst for ridiculing others?
Quale [è] l'uomo simile a Giobbe, [Che] beve lo scherno come acqua?
8 He keeps company with wicked people; he associates with those who do evil.
E [che] cammina in compagnia con gli operatori d'iniquità, E va con gli uomini empi?
9 He's even said, ‘What benefit is there in being God's friend?’
Perciocchè egli ha detto: L'uomo non fa niun profitto Di rendersi grato a Dio.
10 So listen to me, you men of understanding! It's impossible for God to do evil and the Almighty to do wrong.
Perciò, uomini di senno, ascoltatemi; Tolga Iddio che vi sia empietà in Dio, O perversità nell'Onnipotente.
11 He pays people back for what they've done, and treats them as they deserve.
Perciocchè egli rende all'uomo [secondo] l'opera sua, E fa trovare a ciascuno secondo la sua via.
12 It's absolutely sure that God doesn't act wickedly; the Almighty would never pervert justice.
Sì veramente Iddio non opera empiamente, E l'Onnipotente non perverte la ragione.
13 Who put him in charge of the earth? Who gave him the responsibility for all the world?
Chi gli ha commesso il governo della terra? E chi [gli] ha imposta [la cura del] mondo tutto intiero?
14 If he were to withdraw his spirit, if he were to take back his breath,
Se egli ponesse mente all'uomo, Egli ritrarrebbe a sè il suo alito, ed il suo soffio;
15 all living things would immediately die and human beings would return to dust.
Ogni carne insieme trapasserebbe, E l'uomo ritornerebbe nella polvere.
16 If you have understanding then hear this; pay attention to what I'm saying.
Se pur [tu hai] del senno, ascolta questo; Porgi l'orecchio alla voce de' miei ragionamenti.
17 Do you really think someone who hated justice could govern? Are you going to condemn Almighty God who always does what is right?
Di vero, colui che odia la dirittura signoreggerebbe egli? E condannerai tu colui che è sommamente giusto?
18 He's the one who tells kings, ‘You're useless!’ or says to nobles, ‘You're wicked!’
Direbbesi egli ad un re: Scellerato? E a' principi: Empio?
19 He doesn't think more of the rich than the poor, for they are all people he himself made.
[Quanto meno a colui] che non ha riguardo alla qualità de' principi, Ed [appo cui] non è riconosciuto il possente, Per essere antiposto al povero, Perchè essi tutti [sono] opera delle sue mani?
20 They die in a moment; at midnight they shudder and pass away; the mighty are gone without effort.
Essi muoiono in un momento, E di mezza notte [tutto] un popolo è conquassato, e perisce; E il potente è tolto via senza [opera di] mani.
21 For he watches what they're doing and sees everywhere they go.
Perciocchè gli occhi suoi [son] sopra le vie dell'uomo, Ed egli vede tutti i passi di esso.
22 There is no darkness so deep where people who do evil can hide themselves from him.
Non [vi è] oscurità, nè ombra di morte alcuna, Ove si possan nascondere gli operatori d'iniquità.
23 God doesn't need to examine anyone in any greater detail that they should come before him for judgment.
Perciocchè [Iddio] non ha [più] riguardo all'uomo, Quando esso è per venire in giudicio davanti a lui.
24 He brings down the mighty without needing an investigation; he sets up others in their place.
Egli fiacca i possenti incomprensibilmente, E ne costituisce altri in luogo loro.
25 Knowing what they've done he overthrows them in a night and destroys them.
Perciò, conoscendo egli le opere loro, Nel girar d'una notte son fiaccati,
26 He strikes them down for their wickedness in public where they can be seen
Egli li sbatte come empi, In luogo di molti spettatori;
27 because they turned away from following him, disregarding all his ways.
Perciocchè si son rivolti indietro da lui, E non hanno considerate tutte le sue vie;
28 They made the poor call out to him, and he heard the cries of the oppressed.
Facendo pervenire infino a lui il grido del povero, E facendogli udire lo strido degli afflitti.
29 Yet if God wants to remain silent, who can condemn him? If he chooses to hide his face, who can see him? Whether it concerns a nation or an individual,
Se egli rimanda in pace, chi condannerà? E [se] nasconde la sua faccia, chi lo riguarderà? O sia una nazione [intiera], o un uomo [solo];
30 a person who rejects God should not rule so they don't mislead people.
Acciocchè l'uomo profano non regni [più] E che il popolo non [sia più tenuto] ne' lacci.
31 If you were to say to God, ‘I have sinned, but I won't do bad things any more.
Certo [ei ti si conveniva indirizzarti] a Dio, dicendo: Io ho portato [la pena]; io non peccherò più.
32 Show me what I cannot see. If I have done wrong, I won't do it again,’
[Se vi è alcuna cosa], oltre a ciò che io veggo, mostramelo; Se io ho operato perversamente, io non continuerò più.
33 then should God reward you for following your own opinions since you have rejected his? You're the one who has to choose, not me! Tell us what you think.
Vorresti tu, ch'egli ti facesse la retribuzione di ciò ch'[è proceduto] da te? Sei tu che rifiuti ed eleggi, non già io; Di' pure ciò che tu sai.
34 For people who understand—those who are wise who have heard what I said—will tell me,
Gli uomini di senno diranno meco, E l'uomo savio mi acconsentirà,
35 ‘Job doesn't know what he's talking about. What he says doesn't make any sense.’
Che Giobbe non parla con conoscimento, E che le sue parole non sono con intendimento.
36 If only Job were thoroughly condemned because he speaks like evil people do.
O padre mio, sia pur Giobbe provato infino all'ultimo, Per cagione delle sue repliche, simili a quelle degli uomini iniqui.
37 Now he has added rebellion to his sins; he claps his hands at us, making long speeches full of accusations against God.”
Perciocchè [altrimenti] egli aggiungerà misfatto al suo peccato, Si batterà a palme fra noi, E moltiplicherà le parole sue contro a Dio.
