< Job 14 >
1 Life is short and full of trouble,
“Nama dubartoota irraa dhalate, barri isaa gabaabaa fi kan rakkinaan guutamee dha.
2 like a flower that blooms and withers, like a passing shadow that soon disappears.
Inni akkuma daraaraa ni biqila; ni coollagas; akkuma gaaddidduu ariifatee darba malee hin turu.
3 Do you even notice me, God, and why do you have to drag me to court?
Iji kee nama akkasii xiyyeeffatee ilaalaa? Ati murtiif fuula kee duratti isa fiddaa?
4 Who can bring something clean of what is unclean? No one.
Eenyutu waan xuraaʼaa keessaa waan qulqullaaʼaa baasuu dandaʼa? Namni tokko iyyuu hin dandaʼu!
5 You have determined how long we shall live—the number of months, a time limit on our lives.
Barri jireenya namaa murtaaʼaa dha; baayʼinni jiʼoota isaas si bira jira; daangaa inni darbuu hin dandeenye daangessiteefii jirta.
6 So leave us alone and give us some peace—so like a laborer we could enjoy a few hours of rest at the end of the day.
Hamma inni akka hojjetaa tokkootti bara isaa raawwatutti, fuula kee isa irraa deebifadhu; isas dhiisi.
7 Even a tree that's cut down has the hope of sprouting again, of sending up shoots and continuing to live.
“Mukni illee abdii qaba: Yoo murame deebiʼee ni lata; dameen isaa haaraanis hin gogu.
8 Even though its roots grow old in the earth, and its stump dies in the ground,
Yoo gufuun isaa lafa keessatti dulloomee gufuun isaa biyyoo keessatti tortore iyyuu,
9 just a trickle of water will make it bud and grow branches like a young plant.
foolii bishaaniitiin lata; akka biqiltuuttis damee ni baafata.
10 But human beings die, their strength dwindles away; they perish, and where are they then?
Namni garuu duʼee awwaalama; lubbuun isaa keessaa baati; innis hin jiraatu.
11 Like water evaporating from a lake and a river that dries up and disappears,
Akkuma bishaan galaanaa gogu yookaan lagnis dhumee gogu sana,
12 so human beings lie down and don't get up again. Until the heavens cease to exist they will not awake from their sleep.
namnis akkasuma ni ciisa; hin kaʼus; hamma samiiwwan darbanittis hin dammaqu yookaan hirribaa hin kaʼu.
13 I wish you would hide me in Sheol; conceal me there until your anger is gone. Set a definite time for me there, and remember me! (Sheol )
“Maaloo utuu awwaala keessa na dhoksitee hamma dheekkamsi kee darbutti na haguugdee! Maaloo utuu beellama naa kennitee ergasii immoo na yaadattee! (Sheol )
14 Will the dead live again? Then I would have hope through all my time of trouble until my release comes.
Namni tokko yoo duʼe deebiʼee ni jiraataa? Ani hamma haaromfamni koo dhufutti, bara rakkoo koo hunda obsaan nan eeggadha.
15 You would call and I would answer you; you would long for me, the being that you made.
Ati na waamta; anis si jalaa nan owwaadha; hojii harka keetiis ni hawwita.
16 Then you would look after me and wouldn't be watching me to see if I sinned.
Yeroo sana ati tarkaanfii koo ni lakkoofta; cubbuu koo garuu hin toʼattu.
17 My sins would be sealed up in a bag and you would cover my guilt.
Yakki koo korojootti naqamee chaappeffama; ati cubbuu koo ni haguugda.
18 But just as the mountains crumble and fall, and the rocks tumble down;
“Garuu akkuma tulluun lolaadhaan dhiqamee jigu, kattaanis iddoo isaatii buqqaʼu sana,
19 as water wears away the stones, as floods wash away the soil, so you destroy the hope people have.
akkuma bishaan dhagaa nyaatee haphisu, akkuma lolaan biyyoo dhiqu sana, atis akkasuma abdii namaa ni balleessita.
20 You continually overpower them and they pass away; you distort their faces in death and send them away.
Ati bara baraan isa ni moota; innis ni bada; bifa isaa ni geeddarta; of irraas isa fageessita.
21 Their children may become important or fall from their positions, but they don't know or see any of this.
Yoo ilmaan isaa ulfina argatan inni hin beeku; yoo isaan salphatanis hin argu.
22 As people die they only know their own pain and are sad for themselves.”
Dhukkuba dhagna isaa qofatu isatti dhagaʼama; inni mataa isaa qofaaf booʼa.”
