< Jeremiah 36 >

1 This message from the Lord came to Jeremiah in the fourth year of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:
Ní ọdún kẹrin Jehoiakimu ọmọ Josiah ọba Juda, ọ̀rọ̀ yìí tọ Jeremiah wá láti ọ̀dọ̀ Olúwa wí pé:
2 Get a scroll and write down everything I've told you condemning Israel, Judah, and all the other nations, from the time I first spoke to you during the reign of Josiah right up till now.
“Mú ìwé kíká fún ará rẹ, kí o sì kọ sínú rẹ̀ gbogbo ọ̀rọ̀ tí mo ti sọ nípa Israẹli àti ti Juda, àti sí gbogbo orílẹ̀-èdè láti ìgbà tí mo ti sọ fún ọ láti ọjọ́ Josiah títí di òní.
3 Maybe when the people of Judah hear about all the disasters I plan to bring down on them, everyone will stop their evil ways. Then I will forgive their guilt and sin.
Ó lè jẹ́ wí pé ilé Juda yóò gbọ́ gbogbo ibi tí mo ti pinnu láti ṣe fún wọn; kí wọn kí ó sì yípadà, olúkúlùkù wọn kúrò ní ọ̀nà búburú rẹ̀. Kí èmi kí ó lè dárí àìṣedéédéé àti ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ wọn jì wọ́n.”
4 So Jeremiah called Baruch son of Neriah to come, and while Jeremiah dictated, Baruch wrote down on a scroll everything that the Lord had told Jeremiah.
Nígbà náà ni Jeremiah pe Baruku ọmọ Neriah, ó sì sọ gbogbo ọ̀rọ̀ tí Ọlọ́run bá a sọ fún, Baruku sì kọ láti ẹnu Jeremiah, gbogbo ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa tí ó ti sọ fún un sórí ìwé kíká náà.
5 Then Jeremiah gave Baruch these instructions: “I'm a prisoner here so I can't go into the Lord's Temple.
Nígbà náà ni Jeremiah wí fún Baruku pé, “A sé mi mọ́! Èmi kò lè lọ sí ilé Olúwa.
6 So you have to go to the Lord's Temple on a day when people are fasting, and read to them the Lord's messages from the scroll I dictated to you. Read them to all the people of Judah who come in from their towns.
Nítorí náà, ìwọ lọ sí ilé Olúwa ní ọjọ́ àwẹ̀, kí o sì kà nínú ìwé kíká náà ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa tí ìwọ ti ẹnu mi kọ; ìwọ ó sì kà á ní etí gbogbo Juda, tí wọ́n jáde wá láti ìlú wọn.
7 Maybe they will come and ask the Lord for forgiveness, and all of them will stop their evil ways, for the Lord is threatening terrible anger against them.”
Ó lè jẹ́ pé, ẹ̀bẹ̀ wọn yóò wá sí iwájú Olúwa, wọ́n ó sì yípadà kúrò ní ọ̀nà búburú wọn; nítorí pé títóbi ni ìbínú àti ìrunú tí Olúwa ti sọ sí àwọn ènìyàn yìí.”
8 Baruch son of Neriah did exactly what Jeremiah the prophet had told him to do. He went and read the Lord's message from the scroll in the Temple.
Baruku ọmọ Neriah sì ṣe gẹ́gẹ́ bí gbogbo èyí tí wòlíì Jeremiah sọ fún, láti ka ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa láti inú ìwé ní ilé Olúwa.
9 This is how it happened. A fast to honor the Lord was declared involving all the people of Jerusalem and everyone who had come there from the towns of Judah. This was in the ninth month of the fifth year of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah.
Ní oṣù kẹsànán ọdún karùn-ún Jehoiakimu ọmọ Josiah ọba Juda ni wọ́n kéde àwẹ̀ níwájú Olúwa fún gbogbo ènìyàn Jerusalẹmu àti fún gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn tí ó wá láti ìlú Juda.
10 Baruch read from the scroll what Jeremiah had dictated so that everyone could hear. He read it from the room of Gemariah son of Shaphan the scribe. This was in the upper Temple courtyard at the New Gate entrance.
Láti inú yàrá Gemariah ọmọ Ṣafani akọ̀wé, ní àgbàlá òkè níbi ìlẹ̀kùn ẹnu-ọ̀nà ilé Olúwa tuntun. Baruku sì ka ọ̀rọ̀ Jeremiah láti inú ìwé ní ilé Olúwa sí etí gbogbo ènìyàn.
11 When Micaiah son of Gemariah, son of Shaphan, heard all the Lord's messages read from the scroll,
Nígbà tí Mikaiah ọmọ Gemariah ọmọ Ṣafani gbọ́ gbogbo àkọsílẹ̀ ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa láti inú ìwé náà;
12 he went down to the royal secretary's room in the king's palace, where all the officials had gathered. Elishama the secretary, Delaiah son of Shemaiah, Elnathan son of Achbor, Gemariah son of Shaphan, Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the other officials were there.
Ó sì sọ̀kalẹ̀ lọ sí ilé ọba sínú yàrá akọ̀wé; níbi tí gbogbo àwọn ìjòyè gbé jókòó sí: Eliṣama akọ̀wé, Delaiah ọmọ Ṣemaiah, Elnatani ọmọ Akbori, Gemariah ọmọ Ṣafani àti Sedekiah ọmọ Hananiah àti gbogbo àwọn ìjòyè.
13 Micaiah gave them a report of everything he'd heard Baruch read from the scroll to the people.
Lẹ́yìn tí Mikaiah sọ gbogbo ọ̀rọ̀ wọ̀n-ọn-nì tí o ti gbọ́ fún wọn, nígbà tí Baruku kà láti inú ìwé kíkà náà ní etí àwọn ènìyàn.
14 The officials sent Jehudi son of Nethaniah, son of Shelemiah, son of Cushi, to summon Baruch, telling him, “Bring the scroll that you read to the people, and come here.” So Baruch went to see them taking the scroll with him.
Gbogbo àwọn ìjòyè sì rán Jehudu ọmọ Netaniah ọmọ Ṣelemiah ọmọ Kuṣi sí Baruku wí pé, mú ìwé kíká náà ní ọwọ́ rẹ láti inú èyí tí ìwọ kà ní etí àwọn ènìyàn; kí o si wá. Nígbà náà ni Baruku ọmọ Neriah wá sí ọ̀dọ̀ wọn pẹ̀lú ìwé kíká ní ọwọ́ rẹ̀.
15 “Please sit down and read it to us,” they said. So Baruch read it to them.
Wọ́n sì wí fún pé, “Jókòó, jọ̀wọ́ kà á sí etí wa!” Nígbà náà ni Baruku sì kà á ní etí wọn.
16 After they'd heard everything, they were frightened and looked at each other. They said to Baruch, “We've got to tell the king about all this.”
Nígbà tí wọ́n sì gbọ́ gbogbo ọ̀rọ̀ náà tan; wọ́n ń wo ara wọn lójú pẹ̀lú ẹ̀rù. Wọ́n sì wí fún Baruku pé, “Àwa gbọdọ̀ jábọ̀ gbogbo ọ̀rọ̀ wọ̀nyí fún ọba.”
17 Then they asked Baruch, “Now tell us, how did you come to write all this? Did Jeremiah dictate it to you?”
Wọ́n sì béèrè lọ́wọ́ Baruku pé, “Sọ fún wa báwo ni o ṣe kọ gbogbo àwọn ọ̀rọ̀ wọ̀nyí? Ṣé Jeremiah ló sọ wọ́n?”
18 “Yes, he dictated it,” Baruch replied. “I wrote down in ink on the scroll everything he told me.”
Baruku sì dá wọn lóhùn wí pé, “Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni, láti ẹnu rẹ̀ ni, ó sì sọ gbogbo ọ̀rọ̀ báyìí fún mi, èmi sì fi tàdáwà kọ wọ́n sínú ìwé náà.”
19 The officials told Baruch, “You and Jeremiah are going to have to hide. Don't tell anyone where you are.”
Nígbà náà ni àwọn ìjòyè sọ fún Baruku wí pé, “Lọ fi ara rẹ pamọ́ àti Jeremiah, má sì ṣe jẹ́ kí ẹnìkan mọ ibi tí ẹ̀yin wà.”
20 Then the officials went to see the king in the courtyard. They had kept the scroll safe in Elishama the secretary's room while they gave a full report to the king.
Lẹ́yìn tí wọ́n fi ìwé kíká náà pamọ́ sí iyàrá Eliṣama akọ̀wé, wọ́n sì wọlé tọ ọba lọ nínú àgbàlá, wọ́n sì sọ gbogbo ọ̀rọ̀ náà ní etí ọba.
21 The king sent Jehudi to fetch the scroll. He went and got it from Elishama the secretary's room. Then Jehudi read it to the king and all the officials who were there standing next to him.
Ọba sì rán Jehudu láti lọ mú ìwé kíká náà wá, Jehudu sì mu jáde láti inú iyàrá Eliṣama akọ̀wé. Ó sì ka ìwé náà ní etí ọba àti ní etí gbogbo àwọn ìjòyè tí ó dúró ti ọba.
22 It was the ninth month and the king was sitting in front of a fire in his winter quarters.
Ó sì jẹ́ ìgbà òtútù nínú oṣù kẹsànán, ọba sì jókòó ní ẹ̀bá iná ààrò, iná náà sì ń jó ní iwájú rẹ̀.
23 Whenever Jehudi finished reading three or four columns, Jehoiakim would chop them off with a scribe's knife and toss them into the fire. Eventually the whole scroll was completely burned up.
Nígbà tí Jehudu ka ojú ìwé mẹ́ta sí mẹ́rin nínú ìwé náà, ọba fi ọ̀bẹ gé ìwé, ó sì sọ sínú iná tí ó wà nínú ìdáná, títí tí gbogbo ìwé kíká náà fi jóná tán.
24 Despite hearing all these messages, the king and his attendants weren't frightened and didn't tear their clothes in remorse.
Síbẹ̀, ọba àti gbogbo àwọn ẹ̀mẹwà rẹ̀ tí wọ́n gbọ́ gbogbo ọ̀rọ̀ wọ̀nyí kò bẹ̀rù; wọn kò sì fa aṣọ wọn yá.
25 Even when Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah pleaded with the king not to burn the scroll, he refused to listen to them.
Elnatani, Delaiah àti Gemariah sì bẹ ọba kí ó má ṣe fi ìwé kíká náà jóná, ṣùgbọ́n ọba kọ̀ láti gbọ́ tiwọn.
26 In fact the king ordered Jerahmeel, one of the princes, as well as Seraiah son of Azriel and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to go and arrest Baruch and Jeremiah. But the Lord hid them.
Dípò èyí ọba pàṣẹ fún Jerahmeeli ọmọ Hameleki, Seraiah ọmọ Asrieli àti Ṣelemiah ọmọ Abdeeli láti mú Baruku akọ̀wé àti Jeremiah wòlíì ṣùgbọ́n Olúwa fi wọ́n pamọ́.
27 After the king burned the scroll Jeremiah had dictated to Baruch, a message from the Lord came to Jeremiah:
Lẹ́yìn tí ọba fi ìwé kíká náà tí ọ̀rọ̀ tí Baruku kọ láti ẹnu Jeremiah jóná tán, ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa sì tọ Jeremiah wá:
28 Get another scroll and write everything out that was on the first scroll that Jehoiakim king of Judah burned.
“Wí pé, tún mú ìwé kíká mìíràn kí o sì kọ gbogbo ọ̀rọ̀ tí ó wà nínú ìwé kíká èkínní tí Jehoiakimu ọba Juda fi jóná.
29 Regarding Jehoiakim king of Judah announce that this is what the Lord says: You have burned the scroll and asked, “Why did you write that the king of Babylon is going to come and destroy this country and kill all its people and animals?”
Kí o sì wí fún Jehoiakimu ọba Juda pé, ‘Báyìí ni Olúwa wí, ìwọ ti fi ìwé kíká náà jóná, o sì wí pé, “Èéṣe tí ìwọ fi kọ̀wé sínú rẹ̀, pé lóòtítọ́ ni ọba Babeli yóò wá, yóò sì pa ilẹ̀ run, àti ènìyàn, àti ẹranko kúrò nínú rẹ̀.”
30 So this is what the Lord says about Jehoiakim king of Judah: He won't have anyone to succeed him as king, sitting on David's throne. His body will be thrown out to lie in the heat of the day and the cold of the night.
Nítorí náà, báyìí ni Olúwa wí ní ti Jehoiakimu ọba Juda pé, Òun kì yóò ní ẹni tí yóò jókòó lórí ìtẹ́ Dafidi, à ó sì sọ òkú rẹ̀ nù fún ooru ní ọ̀sán àti fún òtútù ní òru.
31 I'm going to punish him and his descendants and officials for their sins. I will bring down on them and on the people living in Jerusalem and Judah, all the disasters I warned them about but they refused to listen.
Èmi ó sì jẹ òun àti irú-ọmọ rẹ̀, ìránṣẹ́ rẹ̀ ní ìyà nítorí àìṣedéédéé wọn; èmi ó sì mú gbogbo ibi tí èmi ti sọ sí wọn wá sórí wọn, àti sórí àwọn olùgbé Jerusalẹmu àti àwọn ènìyàn Juda, nítorí tí wọn kò fetísí mi.’”
32 Jeremiah got another scroll and gave it to Baruch. Jeremiah dictated everything that was in the scroll that Jehoiakim had burned in the fire and Barcuh wrote it down. Even more messages of a similar kind were added.
Nígbà náà ni Jeremiah mú ìwé kíká mìíràn fún Baruku akọ̀wé ọmọ Neriah, ẹni tí ó kọ̀wé sínú rẹ̀ láti ẹnu Jeremiah gbogbo ọ̀rọ̀ inú ìwé tí Jehoiakimu ọba Juda ti sun níná. A sì fi onírúurú ọ̀rọ̀ bí irú èyí kún pẹ̀lú.
