< Jeremiah 29 >

1 Jeremiah the prophet wrote this letter and sent it from Jerusalem to the elders who were left among the exiles, to the priests, the prophets, and everyone else who had been exiled from Jerusalem to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar.

2 This was after King Jehoiachin, the queen mother, the court officials, the leaders of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen, and the metals-workers had been exiled from Jerusalem.

3 Elasah, son of Shaphan, and Gemariah, son of Hilkiah, took the letter with them when Zedekiah king of Judah sent them to King Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. In the letter Jeremiah wrote:
Ó fi lẹ́tà náà rán Eleasa ọmọ Ṣafani àti Gemariah ọmọ Hilkiah, ẹni tí Sedekiah ọba Juda rán sí Nebukadnessari ọba Babeli. Wí pé.
4 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all the exiles who were taken from Jerusalem to Babylon:
Èyí ni ọ̀rọ̀ tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run Alágbára Israẹli sọ fún gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn tí mo kó lọ ṣe àtìpó láti Jerusalẹmu ní Babeli:
5 Build yourselves houses there to live in. Plant gardens and grow food to eat.
“Ẹ kọ́ ilé kí ẹ sì máa gbé ibẹ̀, ẹ dá oko, kí ẹ sì máa jẹ èso ohun ọ̀gbìn oko yín.
6 Get married and have children. Arrange for your children to get married so they can have children too. Increase in number, don't decrease.
Ẹ ṣe ìgbéyàwó, kí ẹ sì bí ọmọkùnrin àti ọmọbìnrin, ẹ gbé ìyàwó fún àwọn ọmọkùnrin yín, kí ẹ sì fi àwọn ọmọbìnrin yín fún ọkọ. Kí àwọn náà lè ní ọmọkùnrin àti ọmọbìnrin. Ẹ máa pọ̀ sí i ní iye, ẹ kò gbọdọ̀ dínkù ní iye níbẹ̀ rárá.
7 Help make the city where I've exiled you more prosperous. Pray to the Lord for it, since as it prospers, so will you.
Bákan náà, ẹ máa wá àlàáfíà àti ìre ìlú, èyí tí mo kó yín lọ láti ṣe àtìpó. Ẹ gbàdúrà sí Olúwa fún ìre ilẹ̀ náà; nítorí pé bí ó bá dára fún ilẹ̀ náà, yóò dára fún ẹ̀yin pẹ̀lú.”
8 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Don't be fooled by your prophets and fortune-tellers, and don't listen to any dreams they interpret for you.
Èyí ni ohun tí Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun Ọlọ́run Israẹli wí: “Ẹ má ṣe gbà kí àwọn wòlíì èké àti àwọn aláfọ̀ṣẹ àárín yín tàn yín jẹ. Ẹ má ṣe fetísílẹ̀ sí àlá, èyí tí ẹ gbà wọ́n níyànjú láti lá.
9 They are prophesying lies to you in my name; I have not sent them, declares the Lord.
Wọ́n ń sọ àsọtẹ́lẹ̀ èké fún yín lórúkọ mi, Èmi kò rán wọn níṣẹ́,” ni Olúwa wí.
10 This is what the Lord says: When the seventy years exile in Babylon are over, I will see to you and keep my promise to bring you back to Jerusalem.
Báyìí ni Olúwa wí: “Nígbà tí ẹ bá lo àádọ́rin ọdún pé ní Babeli, èmi yóò tọ̀ yín wá láti ṣe àmúṣẹ ìlérí ńlá mi fún un yín, àní láti kó o yín padà sí Jerusalẹmu.
11 I know what I intend to do for you, declares the Lord. I plan good things for you and not bad. I'm going to give you a future and a hope.
Nítorí mo mọ èrò tí mo rò sí yín,” ni Olúwa wí, “àní èrò àlàáfíà, kì í sì ṣe fún ibi, èrò láti fún un yín ní ìgbà ìkẹyìn àti ìrètí ọjọ́ iwájú.
12 Then you will call for my help, you will come and pray to me, and I will answer you.
Nígbà náà ni ẹ̀yin yóò ké pè mí, tí ẹ̀yin yóò sì gbàdúrà sí mi, tí èmi yóò sì gbọ́ àdúrà yín.
13 You will look for me and you will find me when you're completely committed to looking for me.
Ẹ̀yin yóò wá mi, bí ẹ̀yin bá sì fi gbogbo ọkàn yín wá mi: ẹ̀yin yóò rí mi ni Olúwa Ọlọ́run wí.
14 I will let you find me, declares the Lord. I will end your captivity, gathering you from all the nations and places where I scattered you, declares the Lord. I will bring you back home to the place from where I sent you into exile.
Èmi yóò di rí rí fún yín ni Olúwa wí, Èmi yóò sì mú yín padà kúrò ní ìgbèkùn. Èmi yóò ṣà yín jọ láti gbogbo orílẹ̀-èdè àti ibi gbogbo tí Èmi ti lé yín jáde, ni Olúwa wí. Èmi yóò sì kó yín padà sí ibi tí mo ti mú kí a kó yín ní ìgbèkùn lọ.”
15 But if you argue, “The Lord has provided prophets for us in Babylon,”
Ẹ̀yin lè wí pé, “Olúwa ti gbé àwọn wòlíì dìde fún wa ní Babeli.”
16 this is what the Lord says about the king who sits on David's throne and everyone who's left in Jerusalem, your fellow citizens who weren't taken with you into exile.
Ṣùgbọ́n èyí ni ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa ní ti ọba tí ó jókòó lórí ìtẹ́ Dafidi àti ní ti gbogbo ènìyàn tó ṣẹ́kù ní ìlú yìí; àní ní ti àwọn ènìyàn yín tí kò bá yín lọ sí ìgbèkùn,
17 This is what the Lord Almighty says: I'm going send war and famine and disease against them. I'll make them like rotten figs, so bad that they can't be eaten.
bẹ́ẹ̀ ni, báyìí ni Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun wí pé, “Èmi yóò rán idà, ìyàn àti àjàkálẹ̀-ààrùn sí àárín wọn; Èmi yóò ṣe wọ́n bí èso ọ̀pọ̀tọ́ búburú tí kò ṣe é jẹ.
18 I will chase them down with war and famine and disease. I will make all the kingdoms of the earth horrified by them. They will become a curse word, totally ruined, people to be mocked and criticized among all the nations where I scatter them.
Èmi yóò fi idà, ìyàn àti àjàkálẹ̀-ààrùn lépa wọn, Èmi yóò sì sọ wọ́n di ìríra lójú gbogbo ìjọba ayé, fún ègún, àti ìyanu, àti ẹ̀sín, àti ẹ̀gàn láàrín gbogbo orílẹ̀-èdè ayé, ní ibi tí Èmi yóò lé wọn sí.
19 I'm going to do this because they haven't obeyed to my words, declares the Lord, which I sent to them time and again through my servants the prophets. You exiles haven't obeyed me either, declares the Lord.
Nítorí wọ́n kọ̀ láti gbọ́ ọ̀rọ̀ mi,” ni Olúwa Ọlọ́run wí. Ọ̀rọ̀ tí mo tún ti ẹnu àwọn ìránṣẹ́ mi wòlíì sọ ní ẹ̀yin tí ń ṣe àtìpó kò gbọ́ ni Olúwa Ọlọ́run wí.
20 So listen to the word of the Lord, all you exiles I sent from Jerusalem to Babylon.
Nítorí náà, gbogbo ẹ̀yin ìgbèkùn, ẹ gbọ́ ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa, ẹ̀yin tí mo rán lọ kúrò ní Jerusalẹmu lọ sí Babeli.
21 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says about Ahab son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying lies to you in my name. I'm going to hand them over to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he will kill them right before your eyes.
Èyí ni ohun tí Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun, Ọlọ́run Israẹli sọ nípa Ahabu ọmọ Kolaiah àti nípa Sedekiah ọmọ Maaseiah tí wọ́n ń sọ àsọtẹ́lẹ̀ èké fún un yín lórúkọ mi: “Èmi yóò fi wọ́n lé Nebukadnessari ọba Babeli lọ́wọ́. Òun yóò sì gba ẹ̀mí wọn ní ìṣẹ́jú yìí gan an.
22 Because of what happens to them, all the exiles of Judah in Babylon will curse others like this: “May the Lord treat you like Zedekiah and Ahab, burned alive by the king of Babylon!”
Nítorí tiwọn, ègún yìí yóò ran gbogbo àwọn àtìpó tó wà ní ilẹ̀ Babeli láti Juda: ‘Olúwa yóò ṣe yín bí i Sedekiah àti Ahabu tí ọba Babeli dáná sun.’
23 They did outrageous things in Israel—they committed adultery with their neighbor's wives and told lies in my name. I didn't tell them to say anything. I am the one who knows what they did, and I can witness to it, declares the Lord.
Nítorí wọ́n ti ṣe ibi ní ilé Israẹli, wọ́n ti ṣe àgbèrè pẹ̀lú àwọn ìyàwó aládùúgbò wọn, àti ní orúkọ mi ni wọ́n ti ṣe èké, èyí tí Èmi kò rán wọn láti ṣe. Ṣùgbọ́n, Èmi mọ àwọn nǹkan wọ̀nyí, mo sì jẹ́ ẹlẹ́rìí sí i,” ni Olúwa wí.
24 Tell Shemaiah the Nehelamite
Wí fún Ṣemaiah tí í ṣe Nehalami pé,
25 that this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: On your own authority you sent out letters to all the people of Jerusalem, to the priest Zephaniah, son of Maaseiah, and to all the priests, saying,
“Èyí ni ohun tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run Alágbára Israẹli wí: Ìwọ fi lẹ́tà ránṣẹ́ sí gbogbo àwọn ènìyàn ní Jerusalẹmu sí Sefaniah ọmọ Maaseiah tí í ṣe àlùfáà ní orúkọ mi; ó sì sọ fún Sefaniah wí pé,
26 “Zephaniah, the Lord has chosen you as priest to replace Jehoiada, to be in charge of the Lord's Temple. In that capacity you are required to put in the stocks and neck irons any crazy person who claims to be a prophet.
‘Olúwa ti yàn ọ́ gẹ́gẹ́ bí àlùfáà rọ́pò Jehoiada láti máa jẹ́ alákòóso ilé Olúwa, kí o máa fi èyíkéyìí nínú àwọn aṣiwèrè tó bá ṣe bí i wòlíì si inú àgò irin.
27 So why haven't you not punished Jeremiah of Anathoth, who claims to be a prophet among you?
Nítorí náà, èéṣe tí o kò fi bá Jeremiah ará Anatoti wí. Ẹni tí ó ń dúró bí i wòlíì láàrín yín?
28 You should have done this because he has sent a letter to us here in Babylon, stating, ‘The exile will last a long time. So build yourselves houses there to live in. Plant gardens and grow food to eat.’”
Ó ti rán iṣẹ́ yìí sí wa ni Babeli wí pé, àtìpó náà yóò pẹ́ kí ó tó parí, nítorí náà, ẹ kọ́ ilé kí ẹ sì máa gbé ibẹ̀, ẹ dá oko, kí ẹ sì máa jẹ èso ohun ọ̀gbìn oko yín.’”
29 However, Zephaniah the priest read this letter to Jeremiah the prophet.
Sefaniah àlùfáà ka lẹ́tà náà sí etí ìgbọ́ Jeremiah tí í ṣe wòlíì.
30 Then the Lord told Jeremiah:
Nígbà náà ni ọ̀rọ̀ Olúwa tọ Jeremiah wá wí pé,
31 Send this message to all the exiles: This is what the Lord says about Shemaiah the Nehelamite. Since Shemaiah has prophesied to you, even though I didn't send him, and has convinced you to believe in a lie,
“Rán iṣẹ́ yìí sí gbogbo àwọn ìgbèkùn wí pé: ‘Èyí ni ohun tí Olúwa wí ní ti Ṣemaiah, ará Nehalami: Nítorí pé Ṣemaiah ti sọtẹ́lẹ̀ fún un yín, ṣùgbọ́n èmi kò ran an, tí òun sì ń mú u yín gbẹ́kẹ̀lé èké.
32 this is what the Lord says: I'm going to punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his descendants. He won't have any family left among this people, and he won't experience the good things that I'm going to do for my people, declares the Lord, for he has promoted rebellion against the Lord.
Nítorí náà báyìí ni Olúwa wí: Wò ó, èmi yóò bẹ Ṣemaiah, ará Nehalami wò, àti irú-ọmọ rẹ̀; òun kì yóò ní ọkùnrin kan láti máa gbé àárín ènìyàn yìí, bẹ́ẹ̀ ni kì yóò rí rere náà tí èmi yóò ṣe fún àwọn ènìyàn mi ni Olúwa wí, nítorí ó ti ti kéde ìṣọ̀tẹ̀ sí mi.’”
