Jeremiah 24

1 The Lord showed me in vision two baskets of figs placed in front of the Lord's Temple. This happened after Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had taken to Babylon Jehoiachin, son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, as well as the leaders of Judah, and the craftsmen and metal-workers from Jerusalem.

Fêz-me o Senhor ver, e eis aqui dois cestos de figos, postos diante do templo do Senhor, depois que Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, levou em cativeiro a Jechonias, filho de Joaquim, rei de Judá, e os príncipes de Judá, e os carpinteiros, e os ferreiros de Jerusalém, e os trouxe a Babilônia.

2 One basket was full of very good figs, like those that ripen early, but the other basket only had very bad figs, so bad they couldn't be eaten.

Um cesto tinha figos muito bons, como os figos temporãos; porém o outro cesto tinha figos muito maus, que não se podiam comer, de maus que eram.

3 “Jeremiah,” the Lord asked, “what can you see?” “I see figs!” I replied. “The good figs look very good, but the bad figs look very bad, so bad they can't be eaten.”

E disse-me o Senhor: Que vês tu, Jeremias? E eu disse: Figos: os figos bons, muito bons, e os maus, muito maus, que não se podem comer, de maus que são.

4 Then a message from the Lord came to me, saying,

Então veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:

5 This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: The good figs represent to me the exiles from Judah, those I have sent away from here to the country of Babylonia.

Assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Israel: Como a estes bons figos, assim também conhecerei aos de Judá, levados em cativeiro; os quais enviei deste lugar para a terra dos caldeus, para o seu bem.

6 I will watch over them and I will bring them back to this country. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them.

Porei os meus olhos sobre eles, para o seu bem, e os voltarei a esta terra, e edifica-los-ei, e não os destruirei; e planta-los-ei, e não os arrancarei.

7 I will give them the desire to know me, to know that I am the Lord. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will come back completely committed to me.

E dar-lhes-ei coração para que me conheçam, porque eu sou o Senhor; e ser-me-ão por povo, e eu lhes serei por Deus; porque se converterão a mim de todo o seu coração.

8 But the bad figs, so bad they cannot be eaten, says the Lord, represent the way I will deal with Zedekiah, king of Judah, his officials, and those who are left of Jerusalem, as well as those remaining in this country and those living in Egypt.

E como os figos maus, que se não podem comer, de maus que são (porque assim diz o Senhor), assim usarei com Zedekias, rei de Judá, e com os seus príncipes, e com o resto de Jerusalém, que ficou de resto nesta terra, e com os que habitam na terra do Egito.

9 I'm going to make an example of them that will horrify and offend everyone on earth. They will be disgraced, mocked, ridiculed, and cursed everywhere I've exiled them.

E entrega-los-ei para que sejam um terror, para mal a todos os reinos da terra, para o opróbrio e por provérbio, e para escarneio, e por maldição em todos os lugares para onde os arrojei.

10 I'm going to attack them with war and famine and plague, until they're completely wiped out from the country that I gave to them and their forefathers.

E enviarei entre eles a espada, a fome, e a peste, até que se consumam de sobre a terra que lhes dei a eles e a seus pais.
