< Jeremiah 23 >

1 What trouble is coming to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! declares the Lord.
“Hĩ! Kaĩ arĩithi arĩa maniinaga na makahurunja mbũri cia rũũru rwakwa marĩ na haaro-ĩ!” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekuuga.
2 This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says about the shepherds who were meant to look after my people: You have scattered my flock. You have chased them away You didn't take care of them, so now I will take care of you for all the evil you've done, declares the Lord.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Jehova Ngai wa Isiraeli ekũũria arĩithi arĩa marĩithagia andũ akwa atĩrĩ: “Tondũ nĩmũhurunjĩte mbũri ciakwa na mũgaciingata, na nĩmwagĩte gũcimenyerera-rĩ, nĩngamũherithia nĩ ũndũ wa ũũru ũcio mwĩkĩte,” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekuuga.
3 I myself will gather what's left of my flock from all the countries where I exiled them, and I will bring them back to their pasture, where they will increase in number.
“Niĩ mwene nĩngacookereria matigari ma rũũru rwa mbũri ciakwa kuuma mabũrũri mothe marĩa ndaacitwarithirie, ndĩcicookie ũrĩithio-inĩ wacio, na nĩigaciaranĩra kuo, cingĩhe.
4 I will put shepherds in charge of them who will take care of them, and they won't be afraid or discouraged anymore, and none of them will be missing, declares the Lord.
Nĩngacirehera arĩithi a gũcirĩithagia, na itigacooka gwĩtigĩra kana kũmaka, na gũtirĩ o na ĩmwe yacio ĩkoora,” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekuuga.
5 Look, the time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will choose a descendant of David who does what is right. As king he will rule with wisdom and do what is just and right throughout the country.
6 When he is king, Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in safety. This is the name he will be called: The Lord Who Makes Us Right.
Matukũ-inĩ make-rĩ, Juda nĩakahonokio, nake Isiraeli atũũre arĩ mũgitĩre. Nake ageetagwo rĩĩtwa rĩrĩ: Jehova-Ũthingu-Witũ.”
7 Look, the time is coming, declares the Lord, when people won't say anymore, “On the Lord's life, who led the Israelites out of Egypt.”
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Jehova ekuuga atĩrĩ: “Matukũ nĩmarooka, rĩrĩa andũ matagacooka kuuga atĩrĩ, ‘Ti-itherũ o ta ũrĩa Jehova atũũraga muoyo, ũrĩa warutire andũ a Isiraeli kuuma bũrũri wa Misiri,’
8 Instead they'll say, “On the Lord's life, who led the Israelites back from the northern country and all the other countries where he had exiled them.” Then they'll live in their own country.
no makoigaga atĩrĩ, ‘Ti-itherũ, o ta ũrĩa Jehova atũũraga muoyo, ũrĩa warutire njiaro cia Isiraeli bũrũri ũrĩa ũrĩ mwena wa gathigathini, na kuuma mabũrũri-inĩ mothe kũrĩa aamathaamĩirie.’ Hĩndĩ ĩyo magaatũũra bũrũri wao ene.”
9 When it comes to the prophets: I'm really disturbed—I'm shaking inside! I stagger like a drunk, like someone who's had too much wine, because of what the Lord is like, because of his holy words.
Ũhoro ũkoniĩ anabii nĩ atĩrĩ: Ngoro yakwa nĩthuthĩku; mahĩndĩ makwa mothe nĩmarainaina. Haana ta mũndũ mũrĩĩu, ngahaana ta mũndũ mũtoorie nĩ ndibei, nĩ ũndũ wa Jehova, na nĩ ũndũ wa ndũmĩrĩri ciake theru.
10 For the country is full of people committing adultery so it's under a curse. The land mourns and the desert pastures have dried up. The people live evil lives, using their energy to do wrong.
Bũrũri ũyũ ũiyũrĩte itharia; bũrũri ũyũ ũikarĩte ũrĩ mũngʼaru nĩ ũndũ wa kĩrumi, naguo ũrĩithio wothe kũu werũ-inĩ ũkahooha. Anabii marũmĩrĩire mĩtũũrĩre mĩũru, na makahũthĩra hinya wao ũrĩa gũtagĩrĩire.
11 Both prophets and priests show no respect for me. I see wickedness even in my Temple, declares the Lord.
“Anabii na athĩnjĩri-Ngai matiĩtigagĩra Ngai; o na thĩinĩ wa hekarũ-inĩ yakwa, nĩndĩĩoneire waganu wao,” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekuuga.
12 That's why their path will become slippery; they will be chased away in the dark and fall down. I'm going to bring disaster on them at the time when they're punished, declares the Lord.
“Nĩ ũndũ ũcio njĩra yao nĩĩgũtuĩka ndenderũ; magaathaamĩrio nduma-inĩ, na kũu nĩkuo makaagũĩra. Nĩngamarehithĩria mwanangĩko mwaka-inĩ ũrĩa makaaherithio,” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekuuga.
13 I saw the prophets of Samaria doing something really offensive: They prophesied in the name of Baal and led my people Israel to sin.
“Thĩinĩ wa anabii a Samaria-rĩ, nĩndonire ũndũ ũrĩ magigi, naguo nĩ ũyũ: Maarathaga mohoro na rĩĩtwa rĩa Baali, nao makĩhĩtithia andũ akwa a Isiraeli.
14 But now I see the prophets of Jerusalem doing something even more disgusting: They commit adultery and their lives are a lie. They support the wicked, so no one stops sinning. To me they're all like Sodom; the people of Jerusalem are like Gomorrah.
Othe mahaanĩte ta Sodomu harĩ niĩ; andũ a Jerusalemu mahaana o ta Gomora.”
15 So this is what the Lord Almighty says about the prophets: I will give them wormwood to eat and poisoned water to drink, because evil has spread across the country from the prophets of Jerusalem.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio, ũhoro ũkoniĩ anabii acio, Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe ekuuga ũũ: “Nĩngatũma marĩe irio ndũrũ na manyue maaĩ marĩ na thumu, nĩ ũndũ kuuma kũrĩ anabii a Jerusalemu, wagi wa gwĩtigĩra Ngai ũhunjĩte bũrũri-inĩ guothe.”
16 This is what the Lord Almighty says: Don't pay attention to what these prophets say when they prophesy to you. They're fooling you with visions they make up in their own minds. They're not from me.
Ũũ nĩguo Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe ekuuga: “Mũtigathikĩrĩrie ũrĩa anabii acio maramũrathĩra; nĩ ciĩrĩgĩrĩro cia tũhũ mamũheaga. Maaragia ũhoro wa cioneki ciumĩte meciiria-inĩ mao ene, no ti kuuma kanua ka Jehova.
17 They keep on telling people who don't respect me, “The Lord says that you'll live in peace,” and to everyone following their own stubborn attitude, “Nothing bad is going to happen to you.”
Mathiiaga na mbere na kwĩra andũ arĩa maathũire atĩrĩ, ‘Jehova ekuuga atĩrĩ: Nĩmũkũgĩa na thayũ.’ Na kũrĩ arĩa othe marũmagĩrĩra ũremi wa ngoro ciao, makameera atĩrĩ, ‘Gũtirĩ ũũru ũkũmũkora.’
18 But who of them has attended the Lord's council to hear and understand what he's saying? Who has paid attention to his instructions and followed them?
No rĩrĩ, nũũ wao ũrĩ warũgama ciira-inĩ wa Jehova, akĩona kana akĩigua kiugo gĩake. Nũũ wathikĩrĩirie kana akĩigua kiugo gĩake?
19 Watch out! The Lord has sent out a furious storm, a tornado swirling around the heads of the wicked.
Atĩrĩrĩ, kĩhuhũkanio kĩa Jehova gĩgaatuthũka na mangʼũrĩ, ta kĩhuhũkanio kĩnene gĩkĩharũrũka, nakĩo kĩgũĩre mĩtwe ya andũ arĩa aaganu.
20 The Lord's anger won't fade until he's finished doing everything he wants. Only then will you really understand.
21 I didn't send these prophets, but they run to deliver their messages. I didn't tell them to say anything, but they still go on prophesying.
Anabii acio-rĩ, ti niĩ ndaamatũmire, no rĩrĩ, nĩmatengʼerete na ndũmĩrĩri ciao; niĩ ndiamaarĩirie, no-o no marathĩte mohoro.
22 Now if they had attended my council, they would have delivered my instructions to my people and brought them back from their evil way of life, from their evil actions.
No korwo nĩmarũgamĩte ciira-inĩ wakwa-rĩ, nĩmangĩahunjirie ndũmĩrĩri yakwa kũrĩ andũ akwa, na nĩmangĩagarũrũkĩte, magatigana na mĩthiĩre yao mĩũru, na magatigana na ciĩko ciao njũru.
23 Am I only a local God and not a God who operates widely? asks the Lord.
“Kaĩ ndĩ Ngai wa o gũkũ gũkuhĩ, na ndirĩ Ngai wa kũraya?” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekũũria.
24 Can people hide in secret places where I can't see them? asks the Lord. Don't I operate everywhere in heaven and on earth? asks the Lord.
“Kũrĩ mũndũ ũngĩhota kwĩhitha kũrĩa kwĩhithĩte mũno, ũndũ itangĩhota kũmuona?” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekũũria. “Githĩ ndiyũrĩte kũndũ guothe, igũrũ na thĩ?” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekũũria.
25 I've listened to the prophets who prophesy lies in my name. They say, “I've had a dream! I've had a dream!”
“Nĩnjiguĩte ũrĩa anabii moigaga arĩa marathaga mohoro ma maheeni makĩgwetaga rĩĩtwa rĩakwa. Moigaga atĩrĩ, ‘Nĩndĩrarootire! Nĩndĩrarootire!’
26 How long will this continue? How long will these prophets go on prophesying these lies which are just the product of their own deluded minds?
Nĩ nginya rĩ ũhoro ũyũ ũgũthiĩ na mbere ngoro-inĩ cia anabii acio maheenanagia, o acio marathaga maũndũ ma matũhũhũ moimĩte meciiria-inĩ mao ene?
27 They think the dreams that they repeat to one another will lead my people to forget me, just like their forefathers forgot me by worshiping Baal.
Meciiragia atĩ irooto icio meranaga mũndũ na ũrĩa ũngĩ nĩigũtũma andũ akwa mariganĩrwo nĩ rĩĩtwa rĩakwa, o ta ũrĩa maithe mao mariganĩirwo nĩ rĩĩtwa rĩakwa makĩhooya Baali.
28 A prophet who has a dream should say it's just a dream, but anyone I've spoken to should deliver my message faithfully. What is straw in comparison to grain? asks the Lord.
Mũnabii ũrĩa ũrotete kĩroto-rĩ, nĩaheane ũhoro wa kĩroto kĩu gĩake, no rĩrĩ, ũrĩa ũrĩ na ndũmĩrĩri yakwa nĩaheane ũhoro wayo arĩ na wĩhokeku. Tondũ-rĩ, kaĩ rũũwa rwa ngano rũrĩ na ũhoro ũrĩkũ na ngano?” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekũũria.
29 Doesn't my word burn like fire? asks the Lord. Isn't it like a hammer smashing a rock?
“Githĩ ndũmĩrĩri yakwa ndĩhaana ta mwaki, o na ta kĩbũi kĩrĩa gĩthetheraga rwaro rwa ihiga rũgatuĩka tũcere?” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekũũria.
30 Pay attention to this, declares the Lord. I'm opposed to those prophets who steal words from one another and then say it's a message from me.
“Nĩ ũndũ ũcio-rĩ, nĩndeganĩte na anabii acio maiyaga ndeto mũndũ kuuma kũrĩ ũrĩa ũngĩ, magaciaria ta ciumĩte kũrĩ niĩ,” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekuuga.
31 Pay attention to this declares the Lord. I'm opposed to those prophets who make up their own stories and then announce, “This is what the Lord says.”
Ũũ nĩguo Jehova ekuuga, “Nĩngũũkĩrĩra anabii acio maaragia ndeto ciao ene, na magacooka makoiga atĩrĩ, ‘Ũguo nĩguo Jehova oiga.’
32 Pay attention to this declares the Lord, I'm opposed to those who prophesy fictional dreams. They tell them in order to lead my people into sin with their wild lies. I didn't send them or give them any instructions, and they don't do anybody any good, declares the Lord.
Ĩĩ ti-itherũ, nĩngũũkĩrĩra anabii acio marathaga mohoro ma irooto cia maheeni,” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekuuga. “Maheanaga ũhoro wacio, makahĩtithia andũ akwa na maheeni na mwĩtĩĩo wao, no ti niĩ ndĩmatũmĩte kana ngamaatha. Matigunaga andũ aya o na hanini,” ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekuuga.
33 So when a prophet or priest or anyone else comes and asks you, “What is ‘the burden of the Lord?’” tell them, I'm not giving you a burden. I'm giving up on you, declares the Lord.
“Rĩrĩa andũ aya, kana mũnabii, o na kana mũthĩnjĩri-Ngai mangĩkũũria atĩrĩ, ‘Ndũmĩrĩri nditũ kuuma kũrĩ Jehova nĩ ĩrĩkũ?’ ũkameera atĩrĩ, ‘Ndũmĩrĩri nditũ ya Jehova nĩ inyuĩ, na nĩngamũtiganĩria, ũguo nĩguo Jehova ekuuga.’
34 If a prophet or priest or anyone else claims, “This is the burden of the Lord,” I will punish that person and their family.
Mũnabii, kana mũthĩnjĩri-Ngai, o na kana mũndũ ũngĩ o wothe angiuga atĩrĩ, ‘Ĩno nĩyo ndũmĩrĩri nditũ kuuma kũrĩ Jehova,’ niĩ nĩngaherithia mũndũ ũcio o hamwe na nyũmba yake.
35 This is what everybody should say to their friends and relatives: “What answer has the Lord given?” or, “What has the Lord said?”
Mũndũ o mũndũ wanyu atiindaga akĩũria mũratawe kana mũndũ wao atĩrĩ: ‘Icookia rĩa Jehova nĩ rĩrĩkũ?’ kana, ‘Jehova oigĩte atĩa?’
36 Don't talk about “the burden of the Lord” anymore, because everybody has different ideas about this “burden,” perverting the words of the living God, the Lord Almighty, our God.
No rĩrĩ, mũtigacooke kuuga rĩngĩ atĩ ‘ndũmĩrĩri nditũ kuuma kũrĩ Jehova,’ tondũ kiugo kĩa mũndũ we mwene nĩkĩo gĩtuĩkaga ndũmĩrĩri yake nditũ, na ũguo nĩguo mũgarũraga ciugo cia ndũmĩrĩri cia Ngai ũrĩa ũrĩ muoyo, o we Jehova Mwene-Hinya-Wothe, Ngai witũ.
37 This is what you are to say ask any prophet: “What message has the Lord given you?” and “What has the Lord told you?”
Mũtindaga mũkĩũria mũnabii atĩrĩ: ‘Jehova agũcookeirie ũhoro ũrĩkũ?’ kana, ‘Jehova aarĩtie atĩa?’
38 If they say, “This is the burden of the Lord,” then this is the Lord's response: Because you said, “This is the burden of the Lord,” and I warned you not to,
O na gwatuĩka inyuĩ nĩmugaga atĩrĩ, ‘Ĩno nĩyo ndũmĩrĩri nditũ kuuma kũrĩ Jehova,’ ũũ nĩguo Jehova ekuuga: Nĩmwahũthĩrire ciugo ici, ‘Ĩno nĩyo ndũmĩrĩri nditũ kuuma kũrĩ Jehova,’ o na gũtuĩka nĩndamwĩrĩte mũtikanoige atĩ ‘Ĩno nĩyo ndũmĩrĩri nditũ kuuma kũrĩ Jehova.’
39 now I'm going to pick you up like a burden and throw you away, you and the city that I gave to you and your forefathers.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio, ti-itherũ nĩngariganĩrwo nĩ inyuĩ, ndĩmũingate mwehere mbere yakwa hamwe na itũũra rĩĩrĩ inene rĩrĩa ndaamũheire inyuĩ ene o na maithe manyu.
40 I will disgrace you forever, you shame will never be forgotten.
Nĩngamũrehithĩria thoni cia gũtũũra tene na tene, ĩĩ, ndũme mũconorithio na njono itakariganĩra.”
