Isaiah 7
1 It was during the reign of Ahaz son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin, king of Aram, marched to attack Jerusalem. Pekah, son of Remaliah, king of Israel, joined in the attack, but they couldn't conquer the city.
Il arriva du temps d’Achaz, fils de Joatham, fils d’Ozias, roi de Juda, que Rasin, roi de Syrie, avec Phacée, fils de Romélie, roi d’Israël, monta contre Jérusalem pour l’attaquer; mais il ne put s’en emparer.
2 When the royal family of Judah was told, “Aram and Ephraim have an alliance,” Ahaz and his people were terrified and they shook like trees in the forest tossed about by the wind.
On annonça à la maison de David cette nouvelle: « La Syrie est campée en Éphraïm. » Alors le cœur du roi et le cœur de son peuple furent agités comme les arbres de la forêt sont agités par le vent.
3 Then the Lord told Isaiah, “Take your son Shear-jashub with you and go and meet Ahaz. He'll be at the end of the aqueduct of the upper pool, by the road to the laundry field.
Et Yahweh dit à Isaïe: « Sors à la rencontre d’Achaz, toi et Schéar-Jasub, ton fils, vers l’extrémité du canal de l’étang supérieur, sur le chemin du champ du foulon.
4 Tell him, ‘Calm down and keep quiet. Don't be afraid or scared over a couple of smoldering bits of firewood, over the burning anger of Rezin and Aram, and of Remaliah's son.
Et tu lui diras: Prends garde, tiens-toi tranquille, ne crains point, et que ton cœur ne défaille point devant ces deux bouts de tisons fumants, à cause de la fureur de Rasin et de la Syrie, et du fils de Romélie.
5 Aram has plotted to destroy you together with Ephraim and Remaliah's son saying,
Parce que la Syrie a médité le mal contre toi ainsi qu’Éphraïm et le fils de Romélie, en disant:
6 Let's go and attack Judah! We'll terrorize it and conquer it for ourselves, and make Tabeel's son its king.”
« Montons contre Juda, jetons-le dans l’épouvante, envahissons-le, et établissons-y pour roi le fils de Tabéel;
7 But this is what the Lord God says, “This plan won't materialize—it just won't happen!
ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Cela n’aura pas d’effet, cela ne sera pas!
8 For the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin. In addition, within sixty-five years Israel as a nation will be destroyed.
Car la tête de la Syrie, c’est Damas, et la tête de Damas, c’est Rasin; et encore soixante-cinq ans, et Éphraïm aura cessé d’être un peuple.
9 The head of Israel is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If you don't trust in me, then you won't survive.”
Et la tête d’Éphraïm, c’est Samarie, et la tête de Samarie, c’est le fils de Romélie. Si vous ne croyez pas, vous ne subsisterez pas! »
10 Later the Lord sent another message to Ahaz,
Yahweh parla encore à Achaz, en disant:
11 “Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether as deep as where people are buried or as high as heaven.” (Sheol h7585)
« Demande un signe à Yahweh, ton Dieu, demande-le dans les profondeurs du schéol ou dans les hauteurs du ciel. » (Sheol h7585)
12 “No, I'm not going to ask,” Ahaz replied. “I refuse to put the Lord to the test.”
Mais Achaz dit: « Je ne le demanderai pas, je ne tenterai pas Yahweh. »
13 Then Isaiah said, “Listen, royal family of Judah! Isn't it enough for you to wear people out? Do you have to wear my God out too?
Et Isaïe dit: « Écoutez, maison de David: Est-ce trop peu pour vous de fatiguer les hommes, que vous fatiguiez aussi mon Dieu?
14 This is why the Lord himself is going to give you a sign. Look! The virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and she will call him Immanuel.
C’est pourquoi le Seigneur lui-même vous donnera un signe: Voici que la Vierge a conçu, et elle enfante un fils, et elle lui donne le nom d’Emmanuel.
15 He will eat curds and honey until the time he knows to refuse evil and choose the good.
Il mangera de la crème et du miel, jusqu’à ce qu’il sache rejeter le mal et choisir le bien.
16 For before the boy knows to refuse evil and choose the good, the land of the two kings you're afraid of will be deserted.
Car avant que l’enfant sache rejeter le mal et choisir le bien, le pays dont tu redoutes les deux rois sera dévasté.
17 The Lord will make you, your people, and the royal family experience a time unlike anything since the day Ephraim split from Judah. He will bring the king of Assyria to attack you!”
Yahweh fera venir sur toi et sur ton peuple, et sur la maison de ton père, des jours tels qu’il n’en est pas venu depuis le jour où Éphraïm s’est séparé de Juda, — le roi d’Assyrie. »
18 At that time the Lord will whistle to call flies from the distant rivers of Egypt and bees from the country of Assyria.
En ce jour-là, Yahweh sifflera la mouche qui est à l’extrémité des fleuves d’Égypte, et l’abeille qui est au pays d’Assyrie.
19 They will all come and descend on the steep valleys and rock crevices, on all the thorn bushes and waterholes.
Elles viendront et se poseront toutes dans les vallées escarpées et dans les fentes des rochers, sur tous les buissons et sur tous les pâturages.
20 At that time the Lord will use a razor hired from beyond the Euphrates River, the king of Assyria, to shave you from head to toe, including your beards.
En ce jour-là, le Seigneur rasera avec un rasoir qu’il aura loué au delà du Fleuve — avec le roi d’Assyrie, — la tête et le poil des pieds, et il enlèvera aussi la barbe.
21 At that time a someone who manages to keep a young cow and two sheep alive
En ce jour-là, un homme nourrira une vache et deux brebis,
22 will eat curds, because they produce so much milk—for everyone who survives in the land will eat curds and honey.
et, à cause de l’abondance du lait qu’elles donneront, on ne mangera plus que de la crème; car c’est de la crème et du miel que mangeront tous ceux qui seront restés dans le pays.
23 At that time everywhere that once had a thousand vines worth a thousand shekels will only have brambles and thorns.
En ce jour-là, tout endroit où il y avait mille ceps de vigne, valant mille pièces d’argent, sera couvert de ronces et d’épines.
24 People will go hunting there with bows and arrows because the land will be covered with brambles and thorns.
On y entrera avec des flèches et avec l’arc, car tout le pays ne sera que ronces et épines.
25 In fact, all the hills that were once tilled by the hoe you won't want to go to because you'll worry about the brambles and thorns there. They'll just be where cattle are let loose and where sheep roam.
Et sur toutes les montagnes que l’on cultivait avec le sarcloir, tu n’iras plus, par crainte des ronces et des épines, elles seront un pâturage de bœufs, et une terre foulée par les brebis.
