Genesis 43
1 The famine continued to be really bad in Canaan,
E a fome era gravissima na terra.
2 so once they had finished the grain they'd brought from Egypt, their father told them, “You have to go back and buy some more grain for us.”
E aconteceu que, como acabaram de comer o mantimento que trouxeram do Egypto, disse-lhes seu pae: Tornae, comprae-nos um pouco de alimento.
3 But Judah responded, “The man was adamant when he warned us, ‘I won't even see you unless your brother is with you.’
Mas Judah respondeu-lhe, dizendo: Fortemente nos protestou aquelle varão, dizendo: Não vereis a minha face, se o vosso irmão não vier comvosco.
4 If you send our brother Benjamin with us then we'll go and buy food for you.
Se enviares comnosco o nosso irmão, desceremos, e te compraremos alimento;
5 But if you won't send him, then we won't go, because the man was very clear, ‘I won't even see you unless your brother is with you.’”
Mas se não o enviares, não desceremos; porquanto aquelle varão nos disse: Não vereis a minha face, se o vosso irmão não vier comvosco.
6 “Why have you made things so bad for me by telling the man you had another brother?” Israel asked.
E disse Israel: Porque me fizestes tal mal, fazendo saber áquelle varão que tinheis ainda outro irmão?
7 “The man kept on asking direct questions about us and our family like ‘Is your father still alive?’ and ‘Do you have another brother?’” they replied. “We just answered his questions. How were we to know he'd say, ‘Bring your brother here!’?”
E elles disseram: Aquelle varão particularmente nos perguntou por nós, e pela nossa parentela, dizendo: Vive ainda vosso pae? tendes mais um irmão? e respondemos-lhe conforme as mesmas palavras. Podiamos nós saber que diria: Trazei vosso irmão?
8 Judah said to his father Israel, “Send the boy in my care, and we'll leave immediately, so that we can stay alive and not die—and that includes you and us and our children!
Então disse Judah a Israel, seu pae: Envia o mancebo commigo, e levantar-nos-hemos, e iremos, para que vivamos, e não morramos, nem nós, nem tu, nem os nossos filhos.
9 I promise to take care of him—I'll be personally responsible for bringing him back to you. If I don't, then I will always carry the blame!
Eu serei fiador por elle, da minha mão o requererás; se eu não t'o trouxer, e não o pozer perante a tua face, serei réu de crime para comtigo para sempre:
10 Now let's go, because if we hadn't hesitated, we could have gone there and come back twice by now.”
E se nós não nos tivessemos detido, certamente já estariamos segunda vez de volta.
11 “If it has to be, then this is what you'll do,” Israel replied. “Take with you the best our country produces. Pack your bags with gifts for the man—balm, a little honey, spices, myrrh, pistachios, and almonds.
Então disse-lhes Israel, seu pae: Pois que assim é, fazei isso; tomae do mais precioso d'esta terra em vossos vasos, e levae ao varão um presente: um pouco de balsamo, e um pouco de mel, especiarias, e myrrha, terebintho e amendoas;
12 Take double the money that was returned to you in your sacks—maybe it was a mistake.
E tomae em vossas mãos dinheiro dobrado, e o dinheiro que tornou na bocca dos vossos saccos tornae a levar em vossas mãos; bem pode ser que fosse erro;
13 Take your brother and go back to the man right away.
Tomae tambem a vosso irmão, e levantae-vos, e voltae áquelle varão;
14 May God Almighty make the man treat you kindly so when you come before him he'll release your other brother and send Benjamin back. As for me, if I am to lose all my children, then so be it.”
E Deus Todo-poderoso vos dê misericordia diante do varão, para que deixe vir comvosco vosso outro irmão, e Benjamin; e eu, se fôr desfilhado, desfilhado ficarei.
15 So they packed the gifts, took double the money, and set off, accompanied by Benjamin. They arrived in Egypt and went to have an audience with Joseph.
E os varões tomaram aquelle presente, e tomaram dinheiro dobrado em suas mãos, e a Benjamin: e levantaram-se, e desceram ao Egypto, e apresentaram-se diante da face de José.
16 When Joseph saw Benjamin was with them, he told his household supervisor, “Take these men to my house. Slaughter an animal and make a meal, for they are going to eat with me at noon.”
Vendo pois José a Benjamin com elles, disse ao que estava sobre a sua casa: Leva estes varões á casa, e mata rezes, e apresta; porque estes varões comerão commigo ao meio dia.
17 The man did as Joseph ordered and took them to Joseph's house.
E o varão fez como José dissera, e o varão levou aquelles varões á casa de José
18 They were really worried that they were being taken to Joseph's house. “It's because of the money that was put in our sacks the first time we came,” they said to each other. “That's why we're being brought in—so he can accuse us and attack us! He'll make us his slaves and take our donkeys!”
Então temeram aquelles varões, porquanto foram levados á casa de José, e diziam: Por causa do dinheiro que d'antes foi tornado nos nossos saccos, fomos levados aqui, para nos criminar e cair sobre nós, para que nos tome por servos, e a nossos jumentos.
19 So they went and spoke to Joseph's household supervisor at the entrance to the house.
Por isso chegaram-se ao varão que estava sobre a casa de José, e fallaram com elle á porta da casa,
20 “Please excuse us, my lord,” they said. “We came down the first time to buy food,
E disseram: Ai! senhor meu, certamente descemos d'antes a comprar mantimento;
21 and when we stopped for the night, we opened our sacks and each of us found our money—the exact amount—at the top of our sacks. So we've brought it back with us.
E aconteceu que, chegando nós á venda, e abrindo os nossos saccos, eis que o dinheiro de cada varão estava na bocca do seu sacco, nosso dinheiro por seu peso; e tornamos a trazel-o em nossas mãos;
22 We've also brought more money to buy food. We've no idea who put our money in our sacks!”
Tambem trouxemos outro dinheiro em nossas mãos, para comprar mantimento; não sabemos quem tenha posto o nosso dinheiro nos nossos saccos.
23 “Everything's fine!” he told them. “Don't worry! Your God, the God of your father, must have given you the treasure hidden in your sacks. I got your money.” Then he brought Simeon out to meet them.
E elle disse: Paz seja comvosco, não temaes; o vosso Deus, e o Deus de vosso pae, vos tem dado um thesoiro nos vossos saccos; o vosso dinheiro me chegou a mim. E trouxe-lhes fóra a Simeão.
24 The steward took them inside Joseph's house, gave them water to wash their feet, and supplied food for their donkeys.
Depois levou o varão aquelles varões á casa de José, e deu-lhes agua, e lavaram os seus pés; tambem deu pasto aos seus jumentos.
25 They got their gifts ready for when Joseph would come at noon, because they had found out that they were going to eat there.
E prepararam o presente, para quando José viesse ao meio dia; porque tinham ouvido que ali haviam de comer pão.
26 When Joseph arrived at the house they gave him the gifts they had brought for him, and bowed low to the ground before him.
Vindo pois José a casa, trouxeram-lhe a casa o presente, que estava na sua mão; e inclinaram-se a elle á terra.
27 He asked how they were, and then he asked, “How is your elderly father doing that you spoke of? Is he still alive?”
E elle lhes perguntou como estavam, e disse: Vosso pae, o velho de quem fallastes, está bem? ainda vive?
28 “Yes, your servant our father is still alive, and is well,” they replied and bowed low in respect.
E elles disseram: Bem está o teu servo, nosso pae vive ainda. E abaixaram a cabeça, e inclinaram-se.
29 Then Joseph looked over at his brother Benjamin, the son of his own mother. “Is this your youngest brother that you told me about?” he asked. “God be gracious to you, my son,” he said.
E elle levantou os seus olhos, e viu a Benjamin, seu irmão, filho de sua mãe, e disse: Este é vosso irmão mais novo de quem me fallastes? Depois elle disse: Deus te dê a sua graça, meu filho
30 Joseph had to run out quickly because he was becoming so emotional at seeing his brother. He looked for a place to cry, and went to his room to weep there.
E José apressou-se, porque as suas entranhas moveram-se para o seu irmão, e procurou onde chorar; e entrou na camara, e chorou ali.
31 Then he washed his face, got his emotions under control, and went back out. “Serve the food,” he ordered.
Depois lavou o seu rosto, e saiu; e conteve-se, e disse: Ponde pão.
32 Joseph was served at a table by himself, and his brothers were served at a separate table. The Egyptians were also served at another table, because Egyptians cannot eat with Hebrews because they find this repulsive.
E pozeram-lhe a elle á parte, e a elles á parte, e aos egypcios, que comiam com elle, á parte; porque os egypcios não podem comer pão com os hebreus, porquanto é abominação para os egypcios.
33 The brothers had been seated in front of him in order by age, from the firstborn, the oldest, down to the youngest, and they looked at each other in complete surprise.
E assentaram-se diante d'elle, o primogenito segundo a sua primogenitura, e o menor segundo a sua menoridade: do que os varões se maravilhavam entre si.
34 The food was served to them from Joseph's table, and Benjamin received five times as much as anyone else. So they ate and drank plenty with him.
E apresentou-lhes as porções que estavam diante d'elle; porém a porção de Benjamin era cinco vezes maior do que as porções d'elles todos. E elles beberam, e se regalaram com elle.
