Genesis 38
1 Around this time, Judah left his brothers and set up his tents at Adullam, near to a local man named Hirah.
೧ಆ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಯೆಹೂದನು ತನ್ನ ಅಣ್ಣತಮ್ಮಂದಿರನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಗಟ್ಟಾ ಇಳಿದು ಅದುಲ್ಲಾಮಿನ ಊರಿನವನಾದ ಹೀರಾ ಎಂಬುವವನ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಉಳಿದುಕೊಂಡನು.
2 There Judah happened to see the daughter of a Canaanite man named Shua and married her. He slept with her,
೨ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಯೆಹೂದನು ಕಾನಾನ್ಯನಾದ ಶೂಗನ ಮಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡು ಅವಳನ್ನು ಮದುವೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡನು
3 and she became pregnant and had a son he named Er.
೩ಅವಳು ಬಸುರಾಗಿ ಗಂಡುಮಗುವನ್ನು ಹೆತ್ತಳು ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಯೆಹೂದನು “ಏರ್” ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟನು.
4 She became pregnant again and had a son she named Onan.
೪ಅವಳು ಎರಡನೆಯ ಸಾರಿ ಬಸುರಾಗಿ ಗಂಡು ಮಗುವನ್ನು ಹೆತ್ತಾಗ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ “ಓನಾನ್” ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟಳು.
5 Then she had another son she named Shelah who was born in Kezib.
೫ಅವಳು ಪುನಃ ಗರ್ಭಿಣಿಯಾಗಿ ಗಂಡು ಮಗುವನ್ನು ಹೆತ್ತಳು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ “ಶೇಲಹ” ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಟ್ಟಳು. ಅವಳು ಆ ಮಗುವನ್ನು ಹೆತ್ತಾಗ ಯೆಹೂದನು ಕಜೀಬೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದನು.
6 Much later, Judah arranged for Er, his firstborn son, to marry a woman named Tamar.
೬ಯೆಹೂದನು ತನ್ನ ಚೊಚ್ಚಲು ಮಗನಾದ ಏರನಿಗೆ “ತಾಮಾರ್” ಎಂಬ ಹೆಣ್ಣನ್ನು ತಂದು ಮದುವೆ ಮಾಡಿಸಿದನು.
7 But Er did what was evil in the Lord's sight, so the Lord put him to death.
೭ಆದರೆ ಯೆಹೂದನ ಚೊಚ್ಚಲ ಮಗನಾದ ಏರನು ಯೆಹೋವನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಟ್ಟವನಾಗಿದ್ದುದರಿಂದ ಯೆಹೋವನು ಅವನನ್ನು ಸಾಯುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿದನು.
8 Judah told Onan, “Go and sleep with your brother's wife to fulfill the requirements of a brother-in-law to have children on behalf of your brother.”
೮ಬಳಿಕ ಯೆಹೂದನು ಓನಾನನಿಗೆ, “ನೀನು ನಿನ್ನ ಅಣ್ಣನ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯನ್ನು ಮದುವೆಮಾಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಮೈದುನ ಧರ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ ನಡೆದು ನಿನ್ನ ಅಣ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಸಂತತಿಯನ್ನು ಉಂಟು ಮಾಡು” ಎಂದನು.
9 Onan realized that any children he had wouldn't be his own, so whenever he slept with his brother's wife he made sure she wouldn't become pregnant by withdrawing and spilling his semen on the ground. In this way he prevented any children being born on behalf of his brother.
೯ಆದರೆ ಓನಾನನು ಈ ರೀತಿ ಆಗುವ ಸಂತಾನವು ತನ್ನದಾಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲವೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದು ಅಣ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಸಂತತಿಯನ್ನು ಹುಟ್ಟಿಸಬಾರದೆಂದು ಯೋಚಿಸಿ ತನ್ನ ಅತ್ತಿಗೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಂಗಮಿಸುವಾಗೆಲ್ಲಾ ಅವಳು ಗರ್ಭಧರಿಸದಂತೆ ತನ್ನ ವೀರ್ಯವನ್ನು ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ಸುರಿಸುತಿದ್ದನು.
10 But what he did was evil in the Lord's sight, so he also put Onan to death.
೧೦ಈ ನಡತೆ ಯೆಹೋವನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಟ್ಟದ್ದಾಗಿದ್ದುದರಿಂದ ಆತನು ಅವನನ್ನೂ ಸಾಯಿಸಿದನು.
11 Then Judah told his daughter-in-law Tamar, “Go to your father's house and live there as a widow until my son Shelah grows up.” For he thought, “Maybe he'll die too, just like his brothers.” So Tamar went and stayed in her father's house.
೧೧ಆ ಮೇಲೆ ಯೆಹೂದನು ಒಂದು ವೇಳೆ ಶೇಲಹನು ತನ್ನ ಅಣ್ಣಂದಿರಂತೆಯೇ ಸತ್ತಾನೆಂದು ಯೋಚಿಸಿ ತನ್ನ ಸೊಸೆಯಾದ ತಾಮಾರಳಿಗೆ, “ನನ್ನ ಮಗನಾದ ಶೇಲಹನು ಪ್ರಾಯಸ್ಥನಾಗುವ ತನಕ ನೀನು ವಿಧವೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ನಿನ್ನ ತಂದೆಯ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿರು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದನು. ಅವಳು ತಂದೆಯ ಮನೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲೇ ವಾಸಮಾಡಿದಳು.
12 A long time later Judah's wife, the daughter of Shua, died. After Judah had finished the time of mourning, he went to visit his sheepshearers at Timnah with his friend Hirah from Adullam.
೧೨ಬಹಳ ದಿನಗಳಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ಯೆಹೂದನ ಹೆಂಡತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದ ಶೂಗನ ಮಗಳು ತೀರಿಕೊಂಡಳು. ಯೆಹೂದನು ತನಗೆ ದುಃಖಶಮನವಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ತನ್ನ ಕುರಿಗಳ ಉಣ್ಣೆ ಕತ್ತರಿಸುವವರ ಬಳಿಗೆ ತನ್ನ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತನಾದ ಹೀರಾ ಎಂಬ ಅದುಲ್ಲಾಮ್ಯನ ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗಟ್ಟಾ ಹತ್ತಿ ತಿಮ್ನಾ ಊರಿಗೆ ಹೋದನು.
13 Tamar was told, “Your father-in-law is going to Timnah to shear his sheep.”
೧೩ಆಗ ತಾಮಾರಳಿಗೆ, “ಮಾವನು ತನ್ನ ಕುರಿಗಳ ಉಣ್ಣೇ ಕತ್ತರಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೋಸ್ಕರ ತಿಮ್ನಾ ಊರಿಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾನೆ” ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿದು ಬಂದಿತು
14 So she took off her widow's clothes and covered herself with a veil, disguising herself. She sat down beside the entrance to Enaim, which is on the way to Timnah. She had realized that even though Shelah had now grown up, nothing had been done about her marrying him.
೧೪ಆಗ ಆಕೆಯು ಶೇಲಹನು ಪ್ರಾಯಸ್ಥನಾದಾಗ್ಯೂ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಮದುವೆ ಮಾಡಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲವಲ್ಲಾ ಅಂದುಕೊಂಡು ತನ್ನ ವಿಧವಾ ವಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದಿಟ್ಟು ಮುಸುಕನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡು ವೇಶ್ಯಾಸ್ತ್ರೀಯಂತೆ ಅಲಂಕೃತಳಾಗಿ ತಿಮ್ನಾ ಊರಿನ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಏನಯಿಮ್ ಊರಿನ ಬಾಗಿಲ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಂಡಳು.
15 Judah saw her and thought she must be a prostitute because she had veiled her face.
೧೫ಯೆಹೂದನು ಆಕೆಯನ್ನು ಕಂಡಾಗ ಮುಖದ ಮೇಲೆ ಮುಸುಕು ಇದ್ದದರಿಂದ ಸೊಸೆ ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಯದೆ ವೇಶ್ಯಾಸ್ತ್ರೀಯೆಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಿದನು.
16 He went over to her at the side of the road and said, “I want to sleep with you.” He didn't know she was his daughter-in-law. “What will you give me if I let you sleep with me?” she asked.
೧೬ಮಾರ್ಗದಿಂದ ಓರೆಯಾಗಿ ಆಕೆಯ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ, “ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಬರಲೇ ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದನು” ಆಕೆ, “ನೀನು ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರಬೇಕಾದರೆ, ನನಗೆ ಏನು ಕೊಡುತ್ತೀ?” ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದಳು.
17 “I'll send you a young goat from my flock,” he replied. “What guarantee will you give me to make sure you'll send it?” she asked.
೧೭ಅವನು, “ಹಿಂಡಿನಿಂದ ಒಂದು ಹೋತಮರಿಯನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ” ಅಂದಾಗ ಆಕೆ, “ನೀನು ಆದನ್ನು ಕೊಡುವ ತನಕ ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾದರೂ ಒತ್ತೆಯಿಡಬೇಕು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ,
18 “What guarantee do I have to give you?” he asked. “Your signet seal and its cord, and your walking stick that you're holding,” she replied. He handed them over to her. He slept with her and she became pregnant.
೧೮ಅವನು, “ಏನು ಒತ್ತೇ ಇಡಲಿ” ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದನು. ಆಗ ಆಕೆಯು “ನಿನ್ನ ಮುದ್ರೆ, ನಿನ್ನ ದಾರ, ನಿನ್ನ ಕೈಕೋಲು ಈ ಮೂರನ್ನು ಒತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿ ಇಡು” ಅಂದಳು. ಅವನು ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಆಕೆಯನ್ನು ಸಂಗಮಿಸಲು ಆಕೆಯು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಗರ್ಭಿಣಿಯಾದಳು.
19 She left, went home, took off her veil, and put on her widow's clothes.
೧೯ತರುವಾಯ ಆಕೆ ತಾನು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಮುಸುಕನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದಿಟ್ಟು ತಿರುಗಿ ವಿಧವೆಯ ವಸ್ತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಉಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡಳು.
20 Judah sent his friend Hirah from Adullam with a young goat to get back his belongings he'd left as a guarantee from the woman, but he couldn't find her.
೨೦ಯೆಹೂದನು ತಾನು ಇಟ್ಟಿದ್ದ ಒತ್ತೆಯನ್ನು ಆ ಹೆಂಗಸಿನ ಕೈಯಿಂದ ಬಿಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕೊಸ್ಕರ ತನ್ನ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತನಾದ ಅದುಲ್ಲಾಮ್ಯನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋತಮರಿಯನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದಾಗ ಆಕೆಯು ಅವನಿಗೆ ಸಿಗಲಿಲ್ಲ.
21 Hirah asked the men there, “Where's the cult prostitute that sits by the entrance road to Enaim?” “There's no cult prostitute here,” they answered.
೨೧ಅವನು ಅವಳ ಊರಿನವರನ್ನು, “ಏನಯಿಮಿನ ದಾರಿಯ ಬಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತಿದ್ದ ವೇಶ್ಯಾಸ್ತ್ರೀ ಎಲ್ಲಿರುವಳು” ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರು, “ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ವೇಶ್ಯಾಸ್ತ್ರೀಯೂ ಇಲ್ಲ” ಎಂದರು.
22 Hirah went back to Judah and told him, “I couldn't find her, and the men there said, ‘There's no cult prostitute here.’”
೨೨ಅವನು ಯೆಹೂದನ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹಿಂದಿರುಗಿ ಬಂದು, “ನಾನು ಅವಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣಲಿಲ್ಲ ಮತ್ತು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಚಾರಿಸಿದಾಗ ಆ ಊರಿನವರು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ವೇಶ್ಯಾಸ್ತ್ರೀಯೂ ಇಲ್ಲವೆಂದರು” ಎಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದನು.
23 “Let her keep what I gave her,” Judah replied. “We'll look ridiculous to people if we go on searching. In any case I did try to send her the young goat as promised but you couldn't find her.”
೨೩ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಯೆಹೂದನು, “ನಾವು ಅಪಹಾಸ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾಗದ ಹಾಗೆ ಆ ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಅವಳೇ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿ. ನಾನಂತೂ ಹೋತಮರಿಯನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟೆನು. ಅವಳು ನಿನಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಲಿಲ್ಲ” ಎಂದನು.
24 Then about three months later Judah was told, “Tamar your daughter-in-law has had sex like a prostitute and now as a result she's pregnant!” “Bring her out and burn her to death!” Judah ordered.
೨೪ಸುಮಾರು ಮೂರು ತಿಂಗಳಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ಯೆಹೂದನಿಗೆ, “ನಿನ್ನ ಸೊಸೆಯಾದ ತಾಮಾರಳು ವ್ಯಭಿಚಾರದಿಂದ ಬಸುರಾಗಿದ್ದಾಳೆ” ಎಂಬ ವರ್ತಮಾನವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. ಆಗ ಯೆಹೂದನು, “ಆಕೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊರಗೆ ಕರತನ್ನಿರಿ, ಆಕೆಯನ್ನು ಸುಡಬೇಕು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದನು.
25 As she was brought out, she sent a message to her father-in-law, saying, “I'm pregnant by the man who owns these things.” Then she added, “Please look carefully at this signet seal and its cord and walking stick. Who do they belong to?”
೨೫ಆಕೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊರಕ್ಕೆ ತಂದಾಗ, ಆಕೆಯು ತನ್ನ ಮಾವನಿಗೆ, “ಈ ಸಾಮಾನುಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿ, ಇವು ಯಾವ ಮನುಷ್ಯನದೋ, ಅವನಿಂದಲೇ ನಾನು ಗರ್ಭಿಣಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಮುದ್ರೆ, ದಾರ, ಕೋಲು ಇವುಗಳ ಗುರುತನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಯಬಹುದು” ಎಂದು ಕೇಳಿಕೊಂಡಳು.
26 Judah recognized them right away and said, “She has honored the law more than I have, because I didn't give her in marriage to my son Shelah.” He didn't sleep with Tamar again.
೨೬ಯೆಹೂದನು ಅವುಗಳ ಗುರುತನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದು, “ನಾನು, ನನ್ನ ಮಗನಾದ ಶೇಲಹನನ್ನು ಆಕೆಗೆ ಮದುವೆ ಮಾಡಿಸಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದುದರಿಂದ ಆಕೆಯು ನನಗಿಂತಲೂ ನೀತಿವಂತಳು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದನು. ಅವನು ಪುನಃ ಆಕೆಯ ಸಹವಾಸ ಮಾಡಲಿಲ್ಲ.
27 When the time came for Tamar to give birth, she was found to be carrying twins.
೨೭ತಾಮಾರಳಿಗೆ ಹೆರಿಗೆ ಕಾಲ ಬಂದಾಗ ಆಕೆಯ ಗರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವಳಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿರುವುದು ಕಂಡುಬಂದಿತು.
28 One baby put out his hand, and the midwife tied a scarlet thread around on his wrist and said, “This one came out first.”
೨೮ಆಕೆಯು ಹೆರುವಾಗ ಒಂದು ಮಗುವು ಮುಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಕೈಚಾಚಲು ಸೂಲಗಿತ್ತಿಯು, “ಇದು ಮೊದಲು ಹೊರಗೆ ಬಂದದ್ದು” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ ಅದರ ಕೈಗೆ ಕೆಂಪು ದಾರವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿದಳು.
29 But then he pulled back his hand and his brother was born, she said, “How did you burst out?” So he was named Perez.
೨೯ಅದು ಕೈಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಕ್ಕೆ ತೆಗೆಯಲು, ಅದರೊಡನೆ ಇದ್ದ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಶಿಶುವು ಹೊರಗೆ ಬಂದಿತು. ಸೂಲಗಿತ್ತಿಯು ಇದನ್ನು ಕಂಡು, “ನೀನು ಛೇದಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದೆಯಾ?” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿ, ಅದಕ್ಕೆ “ಪೆರೆಚ್” ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಾಯಿತು.
30 Then his brother with the scarlet thread on his wrist was born. He was named Zerah.
೩೦ತರುವಾಯ ಕೈಗೆ ಕೆಂಪು ನೂಲು ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿಕೊಂಡ ಶಿಶುವು ಹೊರಗೆ ಬಂದಿತು. ಅದಕ್ಕೆ “ಜೆರಹ” ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಾಯಿತು.
