Genesis 2
1 The creation of the heavens, the earth, and everything in them was complete.
Ainsi furent achevés les cieux et la terre, et toute leur armée.
2 By the time the seventh day came, God had finished the work he'd done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work he'd been doing.
Dieu acheva au septième jour son œuvre, qu’il avait faite: et il se reposa au septième jour de toute son œuvre, qu’il avait faite.
3 God blessed the seventh day, and set it apart as holy, because he rested from all the work he'd done in creation.
Dieu bénit le septième jour, et il le sanctifia, parce qu’en ce jour il se reposa de toute son œuvre qu’il avait créée en la faisant.
4 This is the account of the Lord God's creation when he made the heavens and the earth.
Voici les origines des cieux et de la terre, quand ils furent créés. Lorsque l’Éternel Dieu fit une terre et des cieux,
5 Up to this point there were no wild plants or crops growing on the earth, because the Lord God hadn't sent rain, and there was no one to cultivate the ground.
aucun arbuste des champs n’était encore sur la terre, et aucune herbe des champs ne germait encore: car l’Éternel Dieu n’avait pas fait pleuvoir sur la terre, et il n’y avait point d’homme pour cultiver le sol.
6 Dew came up from the earth and made the whole surface of the ground wet.
Mais une vapeur s’éleva de la terre, et arrosa toute la surface du sol.
7 The Lord God shaped the man Adam from the dust of the ground. He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and Adam became a living being.
L’Éternel Dieu forma l’homme de la poussière de la terre, il souffla dans ses narines un souffle de vie et l’homme devint un être vivant.
8 The Lord planted a garden in Eden, in the east. There he put the man Adam he had created.
Puis l’Éternel Dieu planta un jardin en Éden, du côté de l’orient, et il y mit l’homme qu’il avait formé.
9 The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow in the garden, beautiful trees and trees producing fruit that's good to eat. The tree of life was in the middle of the garden, along with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
L’Éternel Dieu fit pousser du sol des arbres de toute espèce, agréables à voir et bons à manger, et l’arbre de la vie au milieu du jardin, et l’arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal.
10 A river flowed out from Eden to water the garden. From there it split into four branches.
Un fleuve sortait d’Éden pour arroser le jardin, et de là il se divisait en quatre bras.
11 The first branch was called the Pishon and it flowed through the whole land of Havilah, where gold is found.
Le nom du premier est Pischon; c’est celui qui entoure tout le pays de Havila, où se trouve l’or.
12 (The gold from that land is pure. Bdellium and onyx stone are also found there.)
L’or de ce pays est pur; on y trouve aussi le bdellium et la pierre d’onyx.
13 The second branch was called the Gihon and it flowed through the whole land of Cush.
Le nom du second fleuve est Guihon; c’est celui qui entoure tout le pays de Cusch.
14 The third branch was called the Tigris and it flowed east of the city of Asshur. The fourth branch was called the Euphrates.
Le nom du troisième est Hiddékel; c’est celui qui coule à l’orient de l’Assyrie. Le quatrième fleuve, c’est l’Euphrate.
15 The Lord God put the man in the Garden of Eden to cultivate it and care for it.
L’Éternel Dieu prit l’homme, et le plaça dans le jardin d’Éden pour le cultiver et pour le garder.
16 The Lord God ordered Adam, “You are free to eat fruit from every tree in the garden,
L’Éternel Dieu donna cet ordre à l’homme: Tu pourras manger de tous les arbres du jardin;
17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, because the day you eat from it you are certain to die.”
mais tu ne mangeras pas de l’arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal, car le jour où tu en mangeras, tu mourras.
18 Then the Lord God said, “It's not good for Adam to be alone. I will make someone to help him, someone that's like him.”
L’Éternel Dieu dit: Il n’est pas bon que l’homme soit seul; je lui ferai une aide semblable à lui.
19 The Lord God used the ground to make all the wild animals, and all the birds. He took them all to Adam to see what he would call them, and Adam named every living creature.
L’Éternel Dieu forma de la terre tous les animaux des champs et tous les oiseaux du ciel, et il les fit venir vers l’homme, pour voir comment il les appellerait, et afin que tout être vivant portât le nom que lui donnerait l’homme.
20 Adam gave names to all the livestock, all the birds, and all the wild animals. But Adam didn't find anyone like him who could help him.
Et l’homme donna des noms à tout le bétail, aux oiseaux du ciel et à tous les animaux des champs; mais, pour l’homme, il ne trouva point d’aide semblable à lui.
21 So the Lord God put Adam into a deep sleep and as he slept the Lord God removed one of Adam's ribs and closed up the place where he took it with body tissue.
Alors l’Éternel Dieu fit tomber un profond sommeil sur l’homme, qui s’endormit; il prit une de ses côtes, et referma la chair à sa place.
22 The Lord God made a woman, using the rib he'd taken from Adam, and presented her to Adam.
L’Éternel Dieu forma une femme de la côte qu’il avait prise de l’homme, et il l’amena vers l’homme.
23 “Finally!” said Adam. “Here is bone from my bone and flesh from my flesh. She shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man.”
Et l’homme dit: Voici cette fois celle qui est os de mes os et chair de ma chair! On l’appellera femme, parce qu’elle a été prise de l’homme.
24 This is the reason a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one being.
C’est pourquoi l’homme quittera son père et sa mère, et s’attachera à sa femme, et ils deviendront une seule chair.
25 Adam and his wife Eve were both naked, but they weren't embarrassed about it.
L’homme et sa femme étaient tous deux nus, et ils n’en avaient point honte.
