Genesis 18
1 The Lord appeared to Abraham at the oaks of Mamre. Abraham was sitting at the entrance to his tent as the day became really hot.
Siden åbenbarede HERREN sig for ham ved Mamres Lund, engang han sad i Teltdøren på den hedeste Tid af Dagen.
2 He looked up and all of a sudden he saw three men standing there. As soon as he saw them, he ran over to meet them and bowed low to the ground.
Da han så op, fik han Øje på tre Mænd, der stod foran ham. Så snart han fik Øje på dem, løb han dem i Møde fra Teltdøren, bøjede sig til Jorden
3 He said, “Sir, if you please, don't continue your journey without spending some time here with me, your servant.
og sagde: "Herre, hvis jeg har fundet Nåde for dine Øjne, så gå ikke din Træl forbi!
4 Let me have some water brought so you can wash your feet and rest under the tree.
Lad der blive hentet lidt Vand, så I kan tvætte eders Fødder og hvile ud under Træet.
5 Also let me bring some food so you can get your strength back before you go on your way, now that you've come to visit me here.” “That would be fine,” they answered. “Please do as you've suggested.”
Så vil jeg bringe et Stykke Brød, for at I kan styrke eder; siden kan I drage videre - da eders Vej nu engang har ført eder forbi eders Træl!" De svarede: "Gør, som du siger!"
6 Abraham hurried back to the tent and told Sarah, “Quick! Make some bread using three large measures of the best flour. Knead the dough and bake the bread.”
Da skyndte Abraham sig ind i Teltet til Sara og sagde: "Tag hurtigt tre Mål fint Mel, ælt det og bag Kager deraf!"
7 Then Abraham ran to the cattle herd and chose a good, young calf and gave it to his servant who quickly killed and cooked it.
Så ilede han ud til Kvæget, tog en fin og lækker Kalv og gav den til Svenden, og han tilberedte den i Hast.
8 Then he took some yogurt, milk, and the cooked meat, and placed the food in front of them. He stood nearby under a tree while they ate.
Derpå tog han Surmælk og Sødmælk og den tilberedte Kalv, satte det for dem og gik dem til Hånde under Træet, og de spiste.
9 “Where is your wife Sarah?” they asked him. “Over there, inside the tent,” he replied.
Da sagde de til ham: "Hvor er din Hustru Sara?" Han svarede: "Inde i Teltet!"
10 Then one said, “I promise you that I will come back to visit you about this time next year, and your wife Sarah will have a son.” Sarah was listening, hiding just inside the entrance to the tent behind him.
Så sagde han: "Næste År ved denne Tid kommer jeg til dig igen, og så har din Hustru Sara en Søn!" Men Sara lyttede i Teltdøren bag ved dem;
11 Abraham and Sarah were old, getting on in years. Sarah was well past the age of having children.
og da Abraham og Sara var gamle og højt oppe i Årene, og det ikke mere gik Sara på Kvinders Vis,
12 Sarah was laughing inside, saying to herself, “Now that I'm old and worn out, how would I experience pleasure? My husband is old too!”

13 The Lord asked Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and ask, ‘How could it possibly be true that I'll have a child now I'm so old?’
Da sagde HERREN til Abraham: "Hvorfor ler Sara og tænker: Skulde jeg virkelig føde en Søn. nu jeg er gammel?
14 Is anything too difficult for the Lord to do? I will come back next year when I said I would, in the spring, and Sarah will have a son.”
Skulde noget være umuligt for Herren? Næste År ved denne Tid kommer jeg til dig igen, og så har Sara en Søn!"
15 Sarah denied it because she was afraid, claiming, “I didn't laugh.” “Yes, you did laugh,” the Lord replied.
Men Sara nægtede og sagde: "Jeg lo ikke!" Thi hun frygtede. Men han sagde: "Jo, du lo!"
16 Then the men left. They looked down on Sodom and headed in that direction. Abraham accompanied them part of the way.
Så brød Mændene op derfra hen ad Sodoma til, og Abraham gik med for at følge dem på Vej.
17 Then the Lord said, “Should I keep from Abraham what I'm going to do?
Men HERREN sagde ved sig selv: "Skulde jeg vel dølge for Abraham, hvad jeg har i Sinde at gøre.
18 Abraham will definitely become a great and powerful nation, and all the nations on earth will be blessed through him.
da Abraham dog skal blive til et stort og mægtigt Folk, og alle Jordens Folk skal velsignes i ham?
19 I've chosen him so that he will teach his sons and their families to follow the way of the Lord by doing what is right and good, so that I, the Lord, can do for Abraham what I promised.”
Jeg har jo udvalgt ham, for at han skal pålægge sine Børn og sine Efterkommere at vogte på HERRENs Vej ved at øve Retfærdighed og Ret, for at HERREN kan give Abraham alt, hvad han har forjættet ham."
20 Then the Lord said, “There are many complaints made against Sodom and Gomorrah because they sin so blatantly.
Da sagde HERREN: "Sandelig. Skriget over Sodoma og Gomorra er stort, og deres Synd er såre svar.
21 I ‘m going to see if these complaints that have reached me are completely true. I'll know if they're not.”
Derfor vil jeg stige ned og se. om de virkelig har handlet så galt. som det lyder til efter Skriget over dem, der har nået mig - derom vil jeg have Vished!"
22 The two men turned and went towards Sodom, but the Lord stayed there with Abraham.
Da vendte Mændene sig bort derfra og drog ad Sodoma til; men HERREN blev stående foran Abraham.
23 Abraham came to him and asked: “Are you really going to wipe out the good people along with the wicked?
Og Abraham trådte nærmere og sagde: "Vil du virkelig udrydde retfærdige sammen med gudløse?
24 What if there are fifty good people in the town? Are you still going to wipe it out despite the fifty good people there?
Måske findes der halvtredsindstyve retfærdige i Byen; vil du da virkelig udrydde dem og ikke tilgive Stedet for de halvtredsindstyve retfærdiges Skyld, som findes derinde.
25 No, you can't do something like that! You can't kill the good with the wicked, otherwise you would be treating the good and the wicked in the same way. You can't do that! Isn't the Judge of all the earth going to do the right thing?”
Det være langt fra dig at handle således: at ihjelslå retfærdige sammen med gudløse, så de retfærdige får samme Skæbne som de gudløse - det være langt. fra dig! Skulde den, der dømmer hele Jorden, ikke selv øve Ret?"
26 “If I find fifty good people in Sodom, I'll spare the whole town because of them,” the Lord replied.
Da sagde HERREN: "Dersom jeg finder halvtredsindstyve retfærdige i Sodoma, i selve Byen, vil jeg for deres Skyld tilgive hele Stedet!"
27 “Since I've started, let me go on speaking to my Lord, even though I'm nothing but dust and ashes,” Abraham continued.
Men Abraham tog igen til Orde: "Se, jeg har dristet mig til at tale til min Herre, skønt jeg kun er Støv og Aske!
28 “What if there are forty-five good people, just five less? Are you still going to wipe out the whole town just because there are five fewer people?” “I won't destroy it if I find forty-five,” the Lord replied.
Måske mangler der fem i de halvtredsindstyve retfærdige - vil du da ødelægge hele Byen for fems Skyld?" Han svarede: "Jeg vil ikke ødelægge Byen, hvis jeg finder fem og fyrretyve i den."
29 Abraham spoke up again and he asked the Lord, “What if only forty can be found?” “I won't do it for the sake of the forty,” the Lord replied.
Men han blev ved at tale til ham: "Måske findes der fyrretyve i den!" Han. svarede: "For de fyrretyves Skyld vil jeg lade det være."
30 “My Lord, please don't get angry with me,” Abraham went on. “Let me ask this—what if only thirty were found?” “I won't do it if I find thirty,” the Lord replied.
Men han sagde: "Min Herre må ikke blive vred, men lad mig tale: Måske findes der tredive i den!" Han svarede: "Jeg skal ikke gøre det, hvis jeg finder tredive i den."
31 “I admit I've been very bold to speak to my Lord like this,” Abraham said. “What if only twenty are found there?” “I won't do it for the sake of the twenty,” the Lord replied.
Men han sagde: "Se, jeg har dristet mig til at tale til min Herr: Måske findes de tyve i den!" Han svarede: "For de tyves Skyld vil jeg lade være at ødelægge den."
32 “Please don't get angry with me, my Lord,” Abraham said. “Just let me ask one more thing. What if only ten are found there?” “I won't destroy it for the sake of the ten,” the Lord replied.
Men han sagde: "Min Herre må ikke blive vred, men lad mig kun tale denne ene Gang endnu; måske findes der ti i den!" Han svarede: "For de tis Skyld vil jeg lade være at ødelægge den."
33 The Lord left once he had finished speaking with Abraham, and Abraham went home.
Da nu HERREN havde talt ud med Abraham, gik han bort; og Abraham vendte tilbage til sin Bolig.
