Genesis 11
1 At that time the whole world spoke just one language and used words with the same meaning.
Mind az egész földnek pedig egy nyelve és egyféle beszéde vala.
2 As they moved east they discovered a plain in the land of Shinar so they settled there.
És lőn mikor kelet felől elindultak vala, Sineár földén egy síkságot találának és ott letelepedének.
3 They said to one another, “Come on, let's make some bricks and bake them with fire.” (They used brick instead of stone, and tar instead of cement).
És mondának egymásnak: Jertek, vessünk téglát és égessük ki jól; és lőn nékik a tégla kő gyanánt, a szurok pedig ragasztó gyanánt.
4 Then they said, “Now let's build a city for ourselves with a tower whose top reaches the heavens. That way we'll gain a great reputation and we won't end up being scattered all over the world.”
És mondának: Jertek, építsünk magunknak várost és tornyot, melynek teteje az eget érje, és szerezzünk magunknak nevet, hogy el ne széledjünk az egész földnek színén.
5 But the Lord came down to take a look at the city and the tower that the people were building.
Az Úr pedig leszálla, hogy lássa a várost és a tornyot, melyet építenek vala az emberek fiai.
6 The Lord said, “Look! These people are united and they all speak one language. If this is what they can do now when they're just getting started, nothing will be impossible for them when they all put their minds to it!
És monda az Úr: Ímé e nép egy, s az egésznek egy a nyelve, és munkájának ez a kezdete; és bizony semmi sem gátolja, hogy véghez ne vigyenek mindent, a mit elgondolnak magukban.
7 We need to go down and mix up their language and make it confused so they won't be able to understand what they're saying to one other.”
Nosza szálljunk alá, és zavarjuk ott össze nyelvöket, hogy meg ne értsék egymás beszédét.
8 The Lord sent them away from there and scattered them all over the world, and they gave up building the city.
És elszéleszté őket onnan az Úr az egész földnek színére; és megszűnének építeni a várost.
9 That's why it was called Babel, because the Lord made the language of the world confused.
Ezért nevezék annak nevét Bábelnek; mert ott zavará össze az Úr az egész föld nyelvét, és onnan széleszté el őket az Úr az egész földnek színére.
10 The following is the genealogy of Shem. When Shem was 100, he had Arphaxad. This was two years after the flood.
Ez a Sém nemzetsége: Sém száz esztendős korában nemzé Arpaksádot, két esztendővel az özönvíz után.
11 Shem lived another 500 years after Arphaxad was born and had other sons and daughters.
És éle Sém, minekutánna nemzette Arpaksádot, ötszáz esztendeig és nemze fiakat és leányokat.
12 When Arphaxad was 35, he had Shelah.
Arpaksád pedig harminczöt esztendős vala, és nemzé Séláht.
13 Arphaxad lived another 403 years after Shelah was born and had other sons and daughters.
És éle Arpaksád, minekutánna nemzette Séláht, négyszáz három esztendeig, és nemze fiakat és leányokat.
14 When Shelah was 30, he had Eber.
Séláh pedig harmincz esztendős vala, és nemzé Hébert.
15 Shelah lived another 403 years after Eber was born and had other sons and daughters.
És éle Séláh, minekutánna nemzé Hébert, négyszáz három esztendeig, és nemze fiakat és leányokat.
16 When Eber was 34, he had Peleg.
Héber pedig harmincznégy esztendős vala és nemzé Péleget.
17 Eber lived another 430 years after Peleg was born and had other sons and daughters.
És éle Héber, minekutánna nemzé Péleget, négyszáz harmincz esztendeig, és nemze fiakat és leányokat.
18 When Peleg was 30, he had Reu.
Péleg pedig harmincz esztendős vala, és nemzé Réut.
19 Peleg lived another 209 years after Reu was born and had other sons and daughters.
És éle Péleg, minekutánna nemzé Réut, kétszáz kilencz esztendeig, és nemze fiakat és leányokat.
20 When Reu was 32, he had Serug.
Réu pedig harminczkét esztendős vala, és nemzé Sérugot.
21 Reu lived another 207 years after Serug was born and had other sons and daughters.
És éle Réu, minekutánna nemzé Sérugot, kétszáz hét esztendeig és nemze fiakat és leányokat.
22 When Serug was 30, he had Nahor.
Sérug pedig harmincz esztendős vala, és nemzé Nákhort.
23 Serug lived another 200 years after Nahor was born and had other sons and daughters.
És éle Sérug, minekutánna nemzé Nákhort, kétszáz esztendeig, és nemze fiakat és leányokat.
24 When Nahor was 29, he had Terah.
Nákhor pedig huszonkilencz esztendős vala, és nemzé Thárét.
25 Nahor lived another 119 years after Terah was born and had other sons and daughters.
És éle Nákhor, minekutánna nemzé Thárét, száz tizenkilencz esztendeig, és nemze fiakat és leányokat.
26 When Terah was 70, he had Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
Tháré pedig hetven esztendős vala, és nemzé Ábrámot, Nákhort, Háránt.
27 The following is the genealogy of Terah. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran was the father of Lot.
Ez a Tháré nemzetsége: Tháré nemzé Ábrámot, Nákhort és Háránt. Hárán pedig nemzé Lótot.
28 However, Haran died while his father, Terah, was still alive, in Ur of the Chaldeans, the land of his birth.
Meghala pedig Hárán, az ő atyjának Thárénak szemei előtt, az ő születésének földjén, Úr-Kaszdimban.
29 Abram and Nahor both got married. Abram's wife was named Sarai, and Nahor's wife was named Milcah. (She was the daughter of Haran, who was the father of both Milcah and Iscah).
Ábrám pedig és Nákhor vőnek magoknak feleséget: az Ábrám feleségének neve Szárai; a Nákhor feleségének neve Milkhah, Háránnak Milkhah atyjának és Jiszkáh atyjának leánya.
30 Sarai wasn't able to become pregnant and so had no children.
Szárai pedig magtalan vala; nem vala néki gyermeke.
31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot, (who was the son of Haran), his daughter-in-law Sarai, (the wife of his son Abram), and left Ur of the Chaldeans to move to the land of Canaan. They got as far as Haran and settled there.
És felvevé Tháré Ábrámot az ő fiát, és Lótot, Háránnak fiát, az ő unokáját, és Szárait, az ő menyét, Ábrámnak az ő fiának feleségét, és kiindulának együtt Úr-Kaszdimból, hogy Kanaán földére menjenek. És eljutának Háránig, és ott letelepedének.
32 Terah lived for 205 years and died in Haran.
Vala pedig Tháré kétszáz öt esztendős, és meghala Tháré Háránban.
