Ezra 9
1 Some time later after all this had happened, the leaders came and told me, “The people of Israel, including the priests and Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the people around us whose disgusting religious practices are similar to those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and Amorites.
Acabadas pois estas coisas, chegaram-se a mim os principes, dizendo: O povo de Israel, e os sacerdotes, e os levitas, se não teem separado dos povos d'estas terras; segundo as suas abominações, a saber: dos cananeos, dos hetheos, dos pherezeos, dos jebuseos, dos amonitas, dos moabitas, dos egypcios, e dos amorrheos.
2 Some Israelites have even married women from these people, both themselves and their sons, mixing the holy race with these people of the land. Our leaders and officials are at the forefront of this sinful behavior.”
Porque tomaram das suas filhas para si e para seus filhos, e assim se misturou a semente sancta com os povos d'estas terras: e até a mão dos principes e magistrados foi a primeira n'esta transgressão.
3 When I heard about this, I tore my clothes, pulled out some hair from my head and beard, and sat down, absolutely appalled.
E, ouvindo eu tal coisa, rasguei o meu vestido e o meu manto, e arranquei os cabellos da minha cabeça e da minha barba, e me assentei attonito.
4 Everyone who respected the instructions of the God of Israel gathered around me because of this sin on the part of the exiles. I sat there shocked and appalled until the evening sacrifice.
Então se ajuntaram a mim todos os que tremiam das palavras do Deus d'Israel por causa da transgressão dos do captiveiro: porém eu me fiquei assentado attonito até ao sacrificio da tarde.
5 At the evening sacrifice, I stood up from where I had been sitting in grief, with my clothes torn, and I kneeled down and held out my hands to the Lord my God.
E perto do sacrificio da tarde me levantei da minha afflicção, havendo já rasgado o meu vestido e o meu manto, e me puz de joelhos, e estendi as minhas mãos para o Senhor meu Deus;
6 I prayed, “My God, I am so ashamed and embarrassed to come and pray to you, my God, because we are in over our heads in sin, and our guilt has risen to the heavens.
E disse: Meu Deus! Estou confuso e envergonhado, de levantar a ti a minha face, meu Deus: porque as nossas iniquidades se multiplicaram sobre a nossa cabeça, e a nossa culpa tem crescido até aos céus.
7 From the time of our forefathers to now, we have been deeply guilty. Because of our sins, we, our kings, and our priests have been handed over to the kings of the earth, killed and taken prisoner, robbed and humiliated, just like we are today.
Desde os dias de nossos paes até ao dia de hoje estamos em grande culpa, e por causa das nossas iniquidades somos entregues, nós, os nossos reis, e os nossos sacerdotes, na mão dos reis das terras, á espada, ao captiveiro, e ao roubo, e á confusão do rosto, como hoje se vê
8 Now for a short time the Lord our God has given us grace, preserving a few of us as a remnant, and giving us safety in his holy place. Our God has brightened our lives by giving us some relief from our slavery.
E agora, como por um pequeno momento, se nos fez graça da parte do Senhor, nosso Deus, para nos deixar aquelles que escapem, e para dar-nos uma estaca no seu sancto logar: para nos alumiar os olhos, ó Deus nosso, e para nos dar uma pouca de vida na nossa servidão;
9 Though we are slaves, our God did not abandon us in our slavery, but he showed us his trustworthy love by making the kings of Persia kind to us, by reviving us so we could rebuild the Temple of our God and repair its ruined state, and by giving us a wall of protection around Judah and Jerusalem.
Porque servos somos; porém na nossa servidão não nos desamparou o nosso Deus; antes estendeu sobre nós beneficencia perante os reis da Persia, para que nos desse vida, para levantarmos a casa do nosso Deus, e para restaurarmos as suas assolações; e para que nos desse uma parede em Judah e em Jerusalem.
10 But now, our God, what do we have to say for ourselves after all this? For we have given up following your commands
Agora pois, ó nosso Deus, que diremos depois d'isto? pois deixámos os teus mandamentos,
11 that you gave through your servants the prophets, telling us, ‘The land you are entering to become its owners is contaminated by the sins of its peoples, the disgusting religious practices that they have filled it with, from one side to the other.
Os quaes mandaste pelo ministerio de teus servos, os prophetas, dizendo: A terra em que entraes para a possuir, terra immunda é pelas immundicias dos povos das terras, pelas suas abominações com que a encheram, d'uma extremidade á outra, com a sua immundicia.
12 So do not let your daughters marry their sons, or allow their daughters marry your sons. Never make a peace or friendship treaty with them, so that you may live well and eat the good food the land produces, and give the land as an inheritance to your children forever.’
Agora pois vossas filhas não dareis a seus filhos, e suas filhas não tomareis para vossos filhos, e nunca procurareis a sua paz e o seu bem; para que vos esforceis, e comaes o bem da terra, e a façaes possuir a vossos filhos para sempre.
13 Now that we are receiving all this punishment because of our sinful actions and our terrible guilt—though you, our God, have not punished us as much as our sins deserve, and have still given us this remnant—
E depois de tudo o que nos tem succedido por causa das nossas más obras, e da nossa grande culpa: porquanto tu, ó nosso Deus, estorvaste que fossemos destruidos, por causa da nossa iniquidade, e ainda nos deste livramento como este;
14 shall we break your commandments once again and intermarry with the peoples who commit these disgusting religious practices? Wouldn't you become so angry with us that you would destroy us? No remnant would be left, not a single survivor.
Tornaremos pois agora a violar os teus mandamentos, e a aparentar-nos com os povos d'estas abominações? não te indignarias tu assim contra nós até de todo nos consumir, até que não ficasse resto nem quem escapasse?
15 Lord, God of Israel, you do what is right. Today we're all that is left, a remnant. We are before you in our guilt, but no one can stand before you because of it.”
Ah! Senhor Deus d'Israel, justo és: pois ficamos escapos, como hoje se vê: eis que estamos diante de ti no nosso delicto; porque depois d'isto ninguem ha que possa estar na tua presença.
