Ezra 9
1 Some time later after all this had happened, the leaders came and told me, “The people of Israel, including the priests and Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the people around us whose disgusting religious practices are similar to those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and Amorites.
Da das alles war ausgerichtet, traten zu mir die Obersten und sprachen: Das Volk Israel und die Priester und Leviten sind nicht abgesondert von den Völkern in den Ländern nach ihren Greueln, nämlich die Kanaaniter, Hethiter, Pheresiter, Jebusiter, Ammoniter, Moabiter, Ägypter und Amoriter;
2 Some Israelites have even married women from these people, both themselves and their sons, mixing the holy race with these people of the land. Our leaders and officials are at the forefront of this sinful behavior.”
denn sie haben derselben Töchter genommen sich und ihren Söhnen und den heiligen Samen gemein gemacht mit den Völkern in den Ländern. Und die Hand der Obersten und Ratsherren war die vornehmste in dieser Missetat.
3 When I heard about this, I tore my clothes, pulled out some hair from my head and beard, and sat down, absolutely appalled.
Da ich solches hörte, zerriß ich mein Kleid und meinen Rock und raufte mein Haupthaar und Bart aus und saß bestürzt.
4 Everyone who respected the instructions of the God of Israel gathered around me because of this sin on the part of the exiles. I sat there shocked and appalled until the evening sacrifice.
Und es versammelten sich zu mir alle, die des HERRN Wort, des Gottes Israels, fürchteten, um der Vergreifung willen derer, die gefangen gewesen waren; und ich saß bestürzt bis an das Abendopfer.
5 At the evening sacrifice, I stood up from where I had been sitting in grief, with my clothes torn, and I kneeled down and held out my hands to the Lord my God.
Und um das Abendopfer stand ich auf von meinem Elend und zerriß mein Kleid und meinen Rock und fiel auf meine Kniee und breitete meine Hände aus zu dem HERRN, meinem Gott,
6 I prayed, “My God, I am so ashamed and embarrassed to come and pray to you, my God, because we are in over our heads in sin, and our guilt has risen to the heavens.
und sprach: Mein Gott, ich schäme mich und scheue mich, meine Augen aufzuheben zu dir, mein Gott; denn unsre Missetat ist über unser Haupt gewachsen und unsre Schuld ist groß bis in den Himmel.
7 From the time of our forefathers to now, we have been deeply guilty. Because of our sins, we, our kings, and our priests have been handed over to the kings of the earth, killed and taken prisoner, robbed and humiliated, just like we are today.
Von der Zeit unsrer Väter an sind wir in großer Schuld gewesen bis auf diesen Tag, und um unsrer Missetat willen sind wir und unsre Könige und Priester gegeben in die Hand der Könige in den Ländern, ins Schwert, ins Gefängnis in Raub und in Scham des Angesichts, wie es heutigestages geht.
8 Now for a short time the Lord our God has given us grace, preserving a few of us as a remnant, and giving us safety in his holy place. Our God has brightened our lives by giving us some relief from our slavery.
Nun aber ist einen kleinen Augenblick Gnade von dem HERRN, unserm Gott, geschehen, daß uns noch Entronnene übriggelassen sind, daß er uns gebe einen Nagel an seiner heiligen Stätte, daß unser Gott unsre Augen erleuchte und gebe uns ein wenig Leben, da wir Knechte sind.
9 Though we are slaves, our God did not abandon us in our slavery, but he showed us his trustworthy love by making the kings of Persia kind to us, by reviving us so we could rebuild the Temple of our God and repair its ruined state, and by giving us a wall of protection around Judah and Jerusalem.
Denn wir sind Knechte, und unser Gott hat uns nicht verlassen, ob wir Knechte sind, und hat Barmherzigkeit zu uns geneigt vor den Königen in Persien, daß sie uns das Leben gelassen haben und erhöht das Haus unsers Gottes und aufgerichtet seine Verstörung und uns gegeben einen Zaun in Juda und Jerusalem.
10 But now, our God, what do we have to say for ourselves after all this? For we have given up following your commands
Nun, was sollen wir sagen, unser Gott, nach diesem, daß wir deine Gebote verlassen haben,
11 that you gave through your servants the prophets, telling us, ‘The land you are entering to become its owners is contaminated by the sins of its peoples, the disgusting religious practices that they have filled it with, from one side to the other.
die du durch deine Knechte, die Propheten, geboten hast und gesagt: Das Land, darein ihr kommt, es zu erben, ist ein unreines Land durch die Unreinigkeit der Völker in den Ländern in ihren Greueln, womit sie es an allen Enden voll Unreinigkeit gemacht haben.
12 So do not let your daughters marry their sons, or allow their daughters marry your sons. Never make a peace or friendship treaty with them, so that you may live well and eat the good food the land produces, and give the land as an inheritance to your children forever.’
So sollt ihr nun eure Töchter nicht geben ihren Söhnen, und ihre Töchter sollt ihr euren Söhnen nicht nehmen; und sucht nicht ihren Frieden noch ihr Gutes ewiglich, auf daß ihr mächtig werdet und esset das Gute im Lande und vererbt es auf eure Kinder ewiglich.
13 Now that we are receiving all this punishment because of our sinful actions and our terrible guilt—though you, our God, have not punished us as much as our sins deserve, and have still given us this remnant—
Und nach dem allem, was über uns gekommen ist um unsrer bösen Werke großer Schuld willen, hast du, unser Gott, unsre Missetat verschont und hast uns eine Errettung gegeben, wie es da steht.
14 shall we break your commandments once again and intermarry with the peoples who commit these disgusting religious practices? Wouldn't you become so angry with us that you would destroy us? No remnant would be left, not a single survivor.
Sollten wir wiederum deine Gebote lassen fahren, daß wir uns mit den Völkern dieser Greuel befreundeten? Wirst du nicht über uns zürnen, bis daß es ganz aus sei, daß nichts Übriges noch keine Errettung sei?
15 Lord, God of Israel, you do what is right. Today we're all that is left, a remnant. We are before you in our guilt, but no one can stand before you because of it.”
HERR, Gott Israels, du bist gerecht; denn wir sind übriggeblieben als Errettete, wie es heute steht. Siehe, wir sind vor dir in unsrer Schuld; denn um deswillen ist nicht zu bestehen vor dir.
