Ezra 5
1 The prophets Haggai and Zechariah, son of Iddo, gave messages to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem from the God of Israel, their ruler.
Y profetizó Aggeo profeta, y Zacarías, hijo de Addo, profetas, a los Judíos que estaban en Judea y en Jerusalem, en nombre del Dios de Israel, a ellos.
2 Then Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua, son of Jozadak, decided to start work on rebuilding God's Temple in Jerusalem. The prophets of God encouraged them and helped them.
Entonces se levantaron Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, y Jesuá, hijo de Josedec, y comenzaron a edificar la casa de Dios, que estaba en Jerusalem: y con ellos los profetas de Dios, que les ayudaban.
3 Almost immediately Tattenai, the governor of the province west of the Euphrates, Shethar-bozenai, and their fellow officials arrived and asked, “Who gave you permission to rebuild this Temple and finish it?”
En aquel tiempo vino a ellos Tatanai capitán de la otra parte del río, y Star-buzanai, y sus compañeros, y dijéronles así: ¿Quién os dio mandamiento para edificar esta casa, y fundar estos muros?
4 Then they asked, “What are the names of the men who are working on this building?”
Entonces, como diremos, les dijimos: ¿Cuáles son los nombres de los varones que edifican este edificio?
5 But their God was watching over the Jewish leaders, so that they were not prevented from working until a report could be sent to Darius and a written reply with instructions was received.
Mas los ojos de su Dios fueron sobre los ancianos de los Judíos, y no les hicieron cesar hasta que la causa viniese a Darío: y entonces respondieron por carta sobre esto.
6 The following is a copy of the letter that Tattenai, the governor of the province west of the Euphrates, Shethar-bozenai, and their fellow officials, officials of the province, sent to King Darius.
Traslado de la carta que envió Tatanai capitán de la otra parte del río, y Star-buzanai, y sus compañeros los Arfasaqueos, que estaban de la otra parte del río, al rey Darío:
7 The report they sent him read went like this: “To King Darius: Greetings.
Enviáronle respuesta, y de esta manera era escrito dentro de ella: Al rey Darío toda paz.
8 We wish to inform Your Majesty that we went to the province of Judah, to the Temple of the great God. It is being built with large stones, with timber beams being placed on the walls. This work is being done properly and is progressing well.
Sea notorio al rey que fuimos a la provincia de Judea a la casa del Dios grande, la cual se edifica de piedra de mármol, y los maderos son puestos en las paredes, y la obra se hace a priesa, y prospera en sus manos.
9 We questioned the leaders, asking them, ‘Who gave you permission to rebuild this Temple and finish it?’
Entonces preguntámos a los ancianos, diciéndoles así: ¿Quién os dio mandamiento para edificar esta casa, y para fundar estos muros?
10 We also asked for their names, so that we could write them down and let you know the names of their leaders.
Y también les preguntámos sus nombres para hacértelo saber, para escribir los nombres de los varones que estaban por sus cabezas.
11 This is the answer they gave us. ‘We are servants of the God of heaven and earth. We are rebuilding the Temple built and completed many years ago by a great king of Israel.
Y nos respondieron así, diciendo: Nosotros somos siervos del Dios del cielo y de la tierra, y reedificamos la casa que ha sido edificada antes muchos años ha, que el gran rey de Israel edificó y fundó.
12 But our forefathers made the God of heaven angry, so he handed them over to Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this Temple and deported the people to Babylon.
Mas después que nuestros padres ensañaron al Dios de los cielos, él los entregó en mano de Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, Caldeo, el cual destruyó esta casa, e hizo traspasar el pueblo en Babilonia.
13 However, Cyrus, king of Babylon, in the first year of his reign, issued a decree to rebuild this Temple of God.
Empero el primer año de Ciro rey de Babilonia, el rey Ciro dio mandamiento para que esta casa de Dios fuese edificada.
14 He even gave back the gold and silver items belonging to God's Temple, which Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the Temple in Jerusalem and placed in his temple in Babylon. King Cyrus gave them to a man named Sheshbazzar, whom he had appointed governor,
Y también los vasos de oro y de plata de la casa de Dios, que Nabucodonosor había sacado del templo que estaba en Jerusalem, y los había metido en el templo de Babilonia, el rey Ciro los sacó del templo de Babilonia, y fueron entregados a Sasabasar, al cual había puesto por capitán.
15 telling him, Take these items and place them in the Temple in Jerusalem. Rebuild God's Temple on its original site.
Y le dijo: Toma estos vasos, vé, y pónlos en el templo que está en Jerusalem, y la casa de Dios sea edificada en su lugar.
16 So Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundation of God's Temple in Jerusalem. It has been under construction since then, but hasn't yet been completed.’
Entonces este Sasabasar vino, y puso los fundamentos de la casa de Dios que estaba en Jerusalem, y desde entonces hasta ahora se edifica, y aun no es acabada.
17 So, if Your Majesty wishes, authorize a search to be made of the royal archives in Babylon to discover if there is a record that King Cyrus issued a decree to rebuild God's Temple in Jerusalem. Then please let us know Your Majesty's decision in this matter.”
Y ahora, si al rey parece bien, búsquese en la casa de los tesoros del rey que está allí en Babilonia, si es así que por el rey Ciro haya sido dado mandamiento para edificar esta casa de Dios que está en Jerusalem: y envíenos sobre esto la voluntad del rey.
