Exodus 9
1 The Lord told Moses, “Go and speak to Pharaoh. Tell him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Let my people go, so that they can worship me.
Hierauf befahl Jahwe Mose: Begieb dich zum Pharao und kündige ihm an: So spricht Jahwe, der Gott der Hebräer: Laß mein Volk ziehen, damit es mich verehre!
2 If you refuse to let them go and keep holding onto them,
Denn wenn du dich weigerst, sie ziehen zu lassen, und sie noch ferner zurückhältst,
3 I will punish you by bringing a very severe plague on your livestock—on your horses, donkeys, camels, herds, and flocks.
so wird Jahwes Hand über dein Vieh auf dem Felde, die Pferde, Esel, Kamele, Rinder und Schafe kommen in Gestalt einer sehr schweren Pest.
4 But the Lord will distinguish between the livestock of the Israelites and the Egyptians, so that none of those belonging to the Israelites will die.’
Jahwe aber wird zwischen dem Vieh der Israeliten und dem der Ägypter einen Unterschied machen: von allem, das den Israeliten gehört, soll kein Stück fallen.
5 The Lord has set a time, saying, ‘Tomorrow this is what is going to happen here in the country.’”
Hierauf bestimmte Jahwe eine Frist, indem er sprach: Morgen wird Jahwe dies über das Land bringen.
6 The following day the Lord did what he had said. All the Egyptians' livestock died, but not a single animal belonging to the Israelites died.
Am folgenden Tage ließ Jahwe dies eintreten. Da fiel alles Vieh der Ägypter; aber von dem Vieh der Israeliten fiel nicht ein einziges Stück.
7 Pharaoh sent out officials and discovered that not a single one of the Israelites' livestock had died. But Pharaoh was stubborn, and he would not let the people leave.
Der Pharao aber sandte Boten aus; da ergab sich, daß von dem Vieh der Israeliten auch nicht ein Stück gefallen war. Hierauf wurde der Sinn des Pharao wieder verstockt, und er ließ das Volk nicht ziehen.
8 The Lord told Moses and Aaron, “Go and get some handfuls of soot from a furnace. Then have Moses throw it into the air in front of Pharaoh.
Hierauf befahl Jahwe Mose und Aaron: Nehmt euch beide Hände voll Ofenruß, und Mose soll ihn vor den Augen des Pharao emporstreuen;
9 It will spread like fine dust over the whole country of Egypt, and open sores will break out on people and animals throughout the land.”
so soll er dann als eine feine Staubwolke auf ganz Ägypten fallen und sowohl an den Menschen als an den Tieren in ganz Ägypten zu Geschwüren werden, die in Blattern ausbrechen.
10 They got soot from a furnace, and went to see Pharaoh. Moses threw it into the air, and open sores broke out on people and animals.
Da nahmen sie den Ofenruß und traten vor den Pharao; dort streute ihn Mose empor, und es entstanden aufbrechende Geschwüre mit Pusteln, an den Menschen sowohl, wie an den Tieren.
11 The magicians were unable to come and appear before Moses, because they and all the other Egyptians were covered in sores.
Die Zauberer aber waren nicht imstande, Mose die Spitze zu bieten, infolge der Geschwüre; denn die Geschwüre brachen an den Zauberern aus, wie an allen Ägyptern.
12 But the Lord gave Pharaoh a stubborn attitude, and he would not listen to them, just as the Lord had told Moses.
Jahwe aber machte den Sinn des Pharao verstockt, und er willfahrte ihnen nicht, wie Jahwe Mose vorausgesagt hatte.
13 The Lord told Moses, “Tomorrow morning get up early and go to Pharaoh, and tell him that this is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘Let my people go, so that they can worship me.
Hierauf befahl Jahwe Mose: Tritt morgen früh vor den Pharao und kündige ihm an: So spricht Jahwe, der Gott der Hebräer: Laß mein Volk ziehen, damit es mich verehre!
14 This time I will direct all my plagues against you and your officials and your people, so you will realize that there is no one like me in all the earth.
Denn diesmal will ich alle meine Plagen dich selbst, deine Höflinge und Unterthanen fühlen lassen, damit du erkennest, daß es keinen giebt, wie ich, auf der ganzen Erde!
15 By now I could have reached out to strike you and your people with a plague that would have completely destroyed you.
Eben hätte ich meine Hand ausrecken und dich und deine Unterthanen mit der Pest zu Grunde richten können, so daß du weggefegt worden wärest vom Erdboden.
16 However, I have let you live so you can see my power, and that my reputation may be spread throughout the earth.
Aber ich habe dich nur deswegen verschont, damit ich dir meine Macht zu fühlen gebe, und mein Name auf der ganzen Erde gepriesen werde.
17 But in your pride you are still tyrannizing my people, and refuse to let them leave.
Noch stemmst du dich dagegen, mein Volk ziehen zu lassen.
18 So watch out! About this time tomorrow I will send down the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the beginning of its history until now.
Ich werde aber morgen um diese Zeit einen sehr schweren Hagelschlag herniederfallen lassen, dessengleichen in Ägypten nicht dagewesen ist, seitdem es erschaffen wurde, bis jetzt.
19 So order your livestock and everything you have in the field to be brought inside. Every person and every animal that stays outside and is not brought inside will die when the hail falls on them.’”
Schicke daher hin und laß dein Vieh und alles, was du draußen im Freien hast, in Sicherheit bringen; denn alle Menschen und Tiere, die sich im Freien befinden und nicht in ihre Behausungen zurückziehen werden, die wird der Hagel tot schlagen.
20 Those of Pharaoh's officials who took seriously what the Lord said rushed to bring their servants and livestock inside.
Wer sich nun von den Höflingen des Pharao vor der Drohung Jahwes fürchtete, der ließ seine Sklaven und sein Vieh in die Wohnungen flüchten.
21 But those who didn't care what the Lord said left their servants and livestock outside.
Wer aber die Drohung Jahwes unbeachtet ließ, der ließ seine Sklaven und sein Vieh im Freien.
22 The Lord told Moses, “Lift your hand towards the sky so that a hailstorm will fall over the whole of Egypt, on people and on animals, and on everything growing in the fields of Egypt.”
Da befahl Jahwe Mose: Recke deine Hand gen Himmel empor; so soll Hagel fallen auf ganz Ägypten, sowohl auf die Menschen, als auf die Tiere und auf alle Feldgewächse in Ägypten.
23 Moses held up his staff toward heaven, and the Lord sent thunder and hail, and made lightning hit the ground. This is how the Lord rained hail down on Egypt.
Da reckte Mose seinen Stab gen Himmel empor, und Jahwe ließ Donner und Hagel entstehen und Feuer fuhr hernieder; und Jahwe ließ Hagel fallen auf Ägypten.
24 As the hail fell it was accompanied by lightning flashing back and forth. The hail that fell was so severe that nothing like it had ever been seen in the whole of Egypt since the beginning of its history.
Und es fiel ein sehr starker Hagel und unaufhörliches Feuer unter dem Hagel, wie seinesgleichen nie gefallen war in Ägypten, seitdem es von Menschen bewohnt war.
25 All across Egypt hail hit everything in the fields, both people and animals. It knocked down everything growing in the fields, and stripped every tree bare.
Und der Hagel erschlug in ganz Ägypten alles, was im Freien war, sowohl Menschen als Tier, und alle Feldgewächse zerschlug der Hagel und alle Bäume auf dem Felde knickte er.
26 Only in the land of Goshen where the Israelites lived was there no hail.
Bloß in der Provinz Gosen, woselbst die Israeliten wohnten, fiel kein Hagel.
27 Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron and told them, “I admit that I sinned this time! The Lord is right, and I and my people are wrong!
Da sandte der Pharao Boten, ließ Mose und Aaron rufen und sprach zu ihnen: Ich habe diesmal gefehlt; Jahwe ist im Recht und ich und meine Unterthanen sind im Unrecht.
28 Pray to the Lord for us, because there's been more than enough of God's thunder and hail. I will let you leave. You don't need to stay here any longer.”
Legt bei Jahwe Fürbitte ein - es ist mehr als genug an den Donnerschlägen und dem Hagel -, so will ich euch ziehen lassen und ihr sollt nicht länger hier verweilen.
29 “Once I've left the city, I will pray to the Lord for you,” Moses told him. “The thunder will stop, and there'll be no more hail, so that you will realize that the earth belongs to the Lord.
Mose antwortete ihm: Wenn ich zur Stadt hinausgehe, will ich meine Hände zu Jahwe ausbreiten; so sollen die Donnerschläge aufhören und der Hagel nicht mehr fallen, damit du erkennst, daß Jahwe die Erde gehört.
30 But I know you and your officials still do not really respect the Lord our God.”
Aber du und deine Höflinge, ich weiß es, fürchtet euch noch nicht vor dem Gott Jahwe.
31 (The flax and barley were destroyed, because the barley was ripe and the flax was flowering.
Der Flachs aber und die Gerste wurden vernichtet; denn die Gerste stand in Ähren und der Flachs hatte Knospen.
32 However, the wheat and the spelt were not destroyed because they grow later.)
Der Weizen jedoch und der Spelt wurden nicht vernichtet; denn sie kommen später.
33 Moses left Pharaoh and went out of the city, and prayed to the Lord. The thunder and hail stopped, and the rainstorm finished.
Hierauf verließ Mose den Pharao und ging zur Stadt hinaus; da breitete er seine Hände zu Jahwe aus, und alsbald hörten die Donnerschläge und der Hagel auf, und es strömte kein Regen mehr hernieder.
34 When Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he sinned again, and he chose to become stubborn again, along with his officials.
Als jedoch der Pharao merkte, daß der Regen, der Hagel und die Donnerschläge aufgehört hatten, verging er sich weiter und wurde verstockt, er und seine Höflinge.
35 Because of his stubborn attitude, Pharaoh would not let the Israelites leave, just as the Lord had predicted through Moses.
Aber der Sinn des Pharao blieb verhärtet, und er ließ die Israeliten nicht ziehen, wie Jahwe durch Mose vorausgesagt hatte.
