Exodus 32
1 When the people realized how long Moses was taking before he came back down the mountain, they went together to see Aaron. They told him, “Get up! Make some gods for us who can lead us because this man Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt—we don't know what's happened to him!”
Cuando el pueblo vio que Moisés se demoraba en bajar del monte, se reunió con Aarón y le dijo: “Ven, haznos dioses que vayan delante de nosotros, porque en cuanto a este Moisés, el hombre que nos sacó de la tierra de Egipto, no sabemos qué ha sido de él.”
2 “Bring to me the gold earrings that your wives, sons, and daughters are wearing,” Aaron replied.
Aarón les dijo: “Quítense los anillos de oro que están en las orejas de sus esposas, de sus hijos y de sus hijas, y tráiganmelos”.
3 So everyone took off the gold earrings they were wearing and brought them to Aaron.
Todo el pueblo se quitó los anillos de oro que tenía en sus orejas y se los llevó a Aarón.
4 He took what they gave him and using a molding tool cast an idol in the shape of a bull calf. They shouted out, “Israel, these are the gods that brought you out of the land of Egypt.”
El recibió lo que le entregaron, lo modeló con un instrumento de grabado y lo convirtió en un becerro moldeado. Luego le dijeron: “Estos son tus dioses, Israel, que te sacaron de la tierra de Egipto”.
5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of the golden calf and shouted out, “Tomorrow will be a festival to honor the Lord!”
Al ver esto, Aarón construyó un altar delante de él; y Aarón hizo una proclama y dijo: “Mañana será una fiesta para Yahvé.”
6 Early the next day they sacrificed burnt offerings and presented peace offerings. Then they sat down to celebrate with eating and drinking. Then they got up to dance, and it became like an orgy.
Al día siguiente se levantaron temprano, ofrecieron holocaustos y trajeron ofrendas de paz; el pueblo se sentó a comer y a beber, y se levantó a jugar.
7 Then the Lord told Moses, “Get back down, because your people that you brought out of Egypt are acting immorally.
El Señor le dijo a Moisés: “Ve, baja, porque tu pueblo, al que sacaste de la tierra de Egipto, se ha corrompido.
8 They have been so quick to abandon the way I ordered them to follow. They have made a metal bull calf idol for themselves, bowing before it in worship and offering sacrifices to it. They're saying, ‘These are the gods that brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”
Se han desviado rápidamente del camino que les ordené. Se han hecho un becerro moldeado, lo han adorado y le han ofrecido sacrificios, y han dicho: ‘Estos son tus dioses, Israel, que te hicieron subir de la tierra de Egipto’.”
9 “I know what these people are like,” the Lord continued saying to Moses. “They are so rebellious!
Yahvé dijo a Moisés: “He visto a este pueblo, y he aquí que es un pueblo de dura cerviz.
10 Now leave me! I am angry with them—let me finish them off! I will make you into a great nation.”
Ahora, pues, déjame en paz, para que arda mi ira contra ellos y los consuma; y haré de ti una gran nación.”
11 But Moses pleaded with the Lord his God, saying, “Why are you angry with the people you brought out of the land of Egypt with tremendous power and great strength?
Moisés suplicó a su Dios y le dijo: “Señor, ¿por qué arde tu ira contra tu pueblo, que sacaste de la tierra de Egipto con gran poder y con mano poderosa?
12 Why should the Egyptians be able to say, ‘He brought them out with the evil purpose of killing them in the mountains, wiping them off the face of the earth’? Turn from your fierce anger. Please change your mind over the threat against your people.
¿Por qué han de hablar los egipcios diciendo: ‘Los sacó para mal, para matarlos en los montes y consumirlos de la superficie de la tierra’? Vuélvete de tu feroz ira, y aléjate de este mal contra tu pueblo.
13 Remember you swore a promise your servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, telling them, ‘I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars of heaven, and give you all the land I promised to them, and they shall own it forever.’”
Acuérdate de Abraham, de Isaac y de Israel, tus siervos, a quienes juraste por ti mismo y les dijiste: ‘Multiplicaré tu descendencia como las estrellas del cielo, y toda esta tierra de la que he hablado se la daré a tu descendencia, y la heredarán para siempre’.”
14 The Lord changed his mind over the disaster he threatened to cause his people.
Entonces Yahvé se apartó del mal que dijo que haría a su pueblo.
15 Moses turned and went down the mountain, carrying the two stone tablets of the Law written on both sides.
Moisés se volvió y bajó del monte con las dos tablas del testimonio en la mano, tablas que estaban escritas por ambos lados. Estaban escritas de un lado y del otro.
16 God had made the tablets, and God had engraved the writing himself.
Las tablas eran obra de Dios, y la escritura era la escritura de Dios, grabada en las tablas.
17 When Joshua heard all the shouting from the camp, he said to Moses, “It sounds like fighting in the camp!”
Cuando Josué oyó el ruido del pueblo al gritar, dijo a Moisés: “Hay ruido de guerra en el campamento”.
18 But Moses replied, “These are not the shouts of victory or of defeat. What I'm hearing is people partying!”
Dijo: “No es la voz de los que gritan por la victoria. No es la voz de los que gritan por ser vencidos, sino el ruido de los que cantan lo que oigo”.
19 As he approached the camp he saw the bull calf idol and the dancing. He got so angry that he threw down the stone tablets and smashed them there at the foot of the mountain.
En cuanto se acercó al campamento, vio el becerro y las danzas. Entonces la ira de Moisés se encendió, y arrojó las tablas de sus manos, y las rompió debajo de la montaña.
20 He took the bull calf and burned it, and ground it into powder. Then he mixed this with water and made the Israelites drink it.
Tomó el becerro que habían hecho, lo quemó con fuego, lo molió hasta hacerlo polvo y lo esparció sobre el agua, e hizo que los hijos de Israel lo bebieran.
21 Then Moses asked Aaron, “What did these people do to you that you made them sin so badly?”
Moisés le dijo a Aarón: “¿Qué te ha hecho esta gente para que les hayas provocado un gran pecado?”
22 “Please don't get angry with me, my lord,” Aaron replied, “You yourself know how liable these people are to do evil.
Aarón dijo: “No dejes que se caliente la ira de mi señor. Tú conoces al pueblo, que está empeñado en el mal.
23 They told me, ‘Make some gods for us who can lead us because this man Moses who brought us out of the land of Egypt—we don't know what's happened to him!’
Porque me han dicho: ‘Haznos dioses que vayan delante de nosotros’. En cuanto a este Moisés, el hombre que nos sacó de la tierra de Egipto, no sabemos qué ha sido de él’.
24 So I said to them, ‘Anybody who has gold jewelry, take it off and give it to me.’ I threw the gold into the furnace and out came this bull calf.”
Les dije: ‘El que tenga oro, que lo saque’. Y me lo dieron; lo eché al fuego, y salió este becerro”.
25 Moses saw the people going completely wild because Aaron had let them, and that this had brought ridicule on them from their enemies.
Cuando Moisés vio que el pueblo estaba fuera de control, (pues Aarón los había dejado perder el control, causando la burla de sus enemigos),
26 So he went and stood at the entrance to the camp, and shouted out, “Whoever is on the Lord's side, come and join me!” All the Levites gathered around him.
entonces Moisés se paró en la puerta del campamento y dijo: “¡Quien esté del lado de Yahvé, venga a mí!” Todos los hijos de Leví se reunieron con él.
27 Moses told them, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: Each of you strap on a sword. Then go all through the camp from one end to the other and kill your brothers, friends, and neighbors.”
Él les dijo: “Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, dice: ‘Cada uno ponga su espada en el muslo y vaya de puerta en puerta por todo el campamento, y cada uno mate a su hermano, a su compañero y a su vecino’”.
28 The Levites did what Moses had told them, and that day around 3,000 men were killed.
Los hijos de Leví hicieron lo que dijo Moisés. Ese día cayeron unos tres mil hombres del pueblo.
29 Moses told the Levites, “Today you have dedicated yourselves to the Lord because you took action against your sons and brothers. Today you have gained a blessing for yourselves.”
Moisés dijo: “Conságrense hoy a Yahvé, porque cada hombre estaba en contra de su hijo y de su hermano, para que él les dé hoy una bendición.”
30 The following day Moses spoke to the people, saying, “You have sinned very badly. But now I will go up to the Lord. Maybe I can get him to forgive your sin.”
Al día siguiente, Moisés dijo al pueblo: “Habéis cometido un gran pecado. Ahora subiré a Yahvé. Tal vez haga expiación por su pecado”.
31 So Moses went back to the Lord. He said, “Please—the people have sinned very badly by making gods of gold for themselves.
Moisés volvió a Yahvé y dijo: “Oh, este pueblo ha cometido un gran pecado y se ha hecho dioses de oro.
32 But now, if you will, forgive their sin. Otherwise just blot me out of the scroll in which you keep your records.”
Pero ahora, si quieres, perdona su pecado; y si no, por favor, bórrame de tu libro que has escrito.”
33 But the Lord replied to Moses, “It's those who sinned against me who will be blotted out of my scroll.
Yahvé dijo a Moisés: “A quien haya pecado contra mí, lo borraré de mi libro.
34 Now go and lead the people to the place I told you about. Look, my angel will go before you, but at the time I decide to punish, I will punish them for their sin.”
Ahora ve, conduce al pueblo al lugar del que te he hablado. He aquí que mi ángel irá delante de ti. Sin embargo, el día en que yo castigue, los castigaré por su pecado”.
35 The Lord brought a plague on the people because they made Aaron make the bull calf.
El Señor golpeó al pueblo por lo que hicieron con el becerro que hizo Aarón.
