Exodus 20
1 God spoke all the following words:
Då tala Gud alle desse ordi, og sagde:
2 “I am the Lord your God, who led you out of Egypt, out of the land of your slavery.
«Eg er Herren, din Gud, som henta deg ut or Egyptarlandet, or slavehuset.
3 You must not have any other gods except me.
Du skal ikkje hava nokon annan gud attåt meg!
4 You must not make for yourself any kind of idol, whether in the form of anything in the heavens above, or on the earth beneath, or in the waters below.
Du skal ikkje gjera deg noko gudebilæte, eller nokor likning av det som er uppi himmelen, eller det som er nedpå jordi, eller det som er i vatnet, nedunder jordi!
5 You must not bow down before them or worship them; for I am the Lord your God and I am passionately exclusive. I lay the consequences of the sin of those who hate me on their sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons;
Du skal ikkje beda til deim, og ikkje skal du tena deim! For eg, Herren, din Gud, er ein streng Gud, som hemnar broti åt federne på borni og barneborni og barnebarns-borni åt deim som hatar meg,
6 but I show trustworthy love to the thousands of generations who love me and keep my commandments.
men gjer vel imot tusund etter tusund av deim som elskar meg og held bodi mine.
7 You must not use the name of the Lord your God in a wrong way, for the Lord will not forgive anyone who uses his name in a wrong way.
Du skal ikkje nemna namnet åt Herren, din Gud, utan age! For Herren held ikkje den uskuldig som brukar namnet hans vyrdlaust.
8 Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.
Kom i hug at du held kviledagen heilag!
9 You have six days to work and earn your living,
Seks dagar må du arbeida og gjera alt det du skal.
10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath to honor the Lord your God. On this day you must not do any work—not you, not your son or daughter, not your male slave or female slave or livestock, and not the foreigner who is staying with you.
Men den sjuande dagen skal vera ein kviledag vigd åt Herren, din Gud. Då skal du ikkje gjera noko arbeid, korkje du eller son din eller dotter di eller drengen din eller tenestgjenta di eller feet ditt eller den framande som held seg innan portarne dine!
11 For the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six days, and then rested on the seventh day. That's why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
For i seks dagar skapte Herren himmelen og jordi og havet og alt som i deim er; men den sjuande dagen kvilde han; difor velsigna Herren kviledagen, og lyste honom heilag.
12 Honor your father and mother, so that you may live a long time in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
Æra far din og mor di, so du fær liva lenge i det landet som Herren, din Gud, gjev deg!
13 You must not murder.
Du skal ikkje drepa!
14 You must not commit adultery.
Du skal ikkje vera utru mot maken din!
15 You must not steal.
Du skal ikkje stela!
16 You must not give false evidence against others.
Du skal ikkje vitna rangt imot grannen din!
17 You must not desire to have anyone else's house. You must not desire to have their wife, or their male slave or female slave, or their ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to them.”
Du skal ikkje trå etter huset åt grannen din! Du skal ikkje trå etter kona åt grannen din, eller drengen eller tenestgjenta eller uksen eller asnet hans, eller noko anna som høyrer grannen din til».
18 When all the people heard the thunder and the sound of the trumpet, and saw the lightning and the smoke from the mountain, they trembled with fear and stood a long way off.
Og heile folket såg og høyrde toreslagi og eldingarne og lurljoden og røyken av fjellet; og då dei gådde det, skalv dei, og heldt seg langt undan.
19 “You speak to us, and we'll listen,” they said to Moses. “But don't let God speak to us, or we'll die.”
Og dei sagde til Moses: «Tala du med oss, so skal me høyra, men lat ikkje Gud tala med oss; for då døyr me!»
20 Moses told them, “Do not be afraid, for God has only come to test you. He wants you to be in awe of him so that you don't sin.”
Då sagde Moses til folket: «Ver ikkje rædde! Gud vil røyna dykk; difor er det han kjem - og at agen for honom skal bu i hjarto dykkar, so de ikkje syndar.»
21 The people stood a long way off as Moses went over to the thick, dark cloud where God was.
Men folket vart standande langt burte, medan Moses gjekk innåt myrkeskodda, der Gud var.
22 The Lord told Moses, “This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘You saw for yourselves that I spoke with you from heaven.
Og Herren sagde til Moses: «So skal du segja til Israels-folket: «De hev høyrt korleis eg tala til dykk frå himmelen.
23 You must not make any idols of silver or gold to worship in addition to me.
De skal ikkje gjera dykk nokon gud attåt meg! Gudar av sylv eller gull skal de ikkje gjera dykk!
24 Make me an altar of earth, and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and peace offerings, your sheep, goats, and cattle. Wherever I decide to be worshiped, I will come to you and bless you.
Eit altar av torv skal du gjera meg, og på det skal du ofra brennofferi og takkofferi dine, småfeet og storfeet ditt! Kvar den stad som eg vil hava namnet mitt æra, skal eg koma til deg og velsigna deg.
25 Now if you make an altar out of stones for me, you must not build it with cut stones, because if you use a chisel to cut the stone, you make it unholy.
Men gjer du eit steinaltar åt meg, so skal du ikkje byggja det av hoggen stein; for brukar du bitjarn på steinarne, so vanhelgar du deim.
26 Also, you must not go up to my altar using steps, so your private parts are not seen.’”
Heller ikkje skal du stiga upp til altaret mitt etter ei tropp, so du nækjer blygsli di uppyver det.
