Deuteronomy 7
1 The Lord your God is going to lead you into the land that you are taking over in order to own it, and will drive out ahead of you many other nations: the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations that are larger and stronger than you.
Cuando el SEÑOR tu Dios te hubiere introducido en la tierra en la cual tú has de entrar para heredarla, y hubiere echado de delante de tu presencia a muchos gentiles, al heteo, al gergeseo, al amorreo, al cananeo, al ferezeo, al heveo, y al jebuseo, siete naciones mayores y más fuertes que tú;
2 When the Lord your God has handed them over to you to defeat them, then you must set them apart for destruction. Don't make any peace treaty with them and don't show them any mercy.
y el SEÑOR tu Dios las hubiere entregado delante de ti, y las hirieres, del todo las destruirás; no harás con ellos alianza, ni las tomarás a merced.
3 Don't intermarry with them. Don't let your daughters marry their sons or have their daughters marry your sons,
Y no emparentarás con ellos; no darás tu hija a su hijo, ni tomarás a su hija para tu hijo.
4 because they will lead your children away from following me to worship other gods. Then the Lord will be angry with you, and he will quickly come and kill you.
Porque desviará a tu hijo de en pos de mí, y servirán a dioses ajenos; y el furor del SEÑOR se encenderá sobre vosotros, y te destruirá presto.
5 On the contrary, this is what you are to do to them: tear down their altars, knock down their idolatrous pillars, cut down their Asherah poles, and burn down their idols.
Mas así habéis de hacer con ellos: sus altares destruiréis, y quebraréis sus imágenes, y cortaréis sus bosques, y quemaréis sus esculturas en el fuego.
6 For you are the Lord your God's holy people. The Lord your God has chosen you to be his own special people, valued above all other peoples on the earth.
Porque tú eres pueblo santo al SEÑOR tu Dios; el SEÑOR tu Dios te ha escogido para serle un pueblo único, diferente a todos los pueblos que están sobre la faz de la tierra.
7 It wasn't because there were so many of you that the Lord loved you more than any other nation, in fact he chose you though there were so few of you.
No por ser vosotros más que todos los pueblos os ha codiciado el SEÑOR, y os ha escogido; porque vosotros erais los más pocos de todos los pueblos;
8 However, because the Lord loved you and kept the promise he gave to your forefathers, He led you out by his power and rescued you from the prison-house of slavery, from the rule of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.
sino porque el SEÑOR os amó, y quiso guardar el juramento que juró a vuestros padres, os ha sacado el SEÑOR con mano fuerte, y os ha rescatado de casa de siervos, de la mano del Faraón, rey de Egipto.
9 That's why you can be sure that the Lord your God is the true God, the faithful God who keeps his agreement based on trustworthy love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.
Para que sepas que el SEÑOR tu Dios es Dios, Dios fiel, que guarda el pacto y la misericordia a los que le aman y guardan sus mandamientos, hasta las mil generaciones;
10 But he doesn't hesitate to pay back those who hate him by destroying them.
y que da el pago en su cara al que le aborrece, destruyéndolo; ni lo dilatará al que le aborrece, en su cara le dará el pago.
11 So keep the commandments and rules and regulations that I'm giving you to follow today.
Guarda, por tanto, los mandamientos, y estatutos, y derechos que yo te mando hoy que hagas.
12 If you listen to these regulations and are careful to observe them, then the Lord your God will keep his agreement and the trustworthy love that he promised to your forefathers.
Y será que, por haber oído estos derechos, y haberlos guardado y puesto por obra, el SEÑOR tu Dios guardará contigo el pacto y la misericordia que juró a tus padres;
13 He will love you and bless you and give you many descendants. He will bless your children and the crops your land produces—your grain, new wine, and olive oil, the calves of your cattle herds and the lambs of your flocks—in the land that he promised your forefathers to give you.
y te amará, y te bendecirá, y te multiplicará; y bendecirá el fruto de tu vientre, y el fruto de tu tierra, y tu grano, y tu mosto, y tu aceite, la cría de tus vacas, y los rebaños de tus ovejas, en la tierra que juró a tus padres que te daría.
14 You will be blessed more than any other nation; none of you will be childless, and none of your livestock will fail to have young.
Bendito serás más que todos los pueblos; no habrá en ti macho ni hembra estéril, ni en tus bestias.
15 The Lord will keep you from having any kind of sickness. He will not let you have any of the terrible diseases you saw in Egypt, but he will let all who hate you suffer from them.
Y quitará el SEÑOR de ti toda enfermedad; y todas las malas plagas de Egipto, que tú conoces; no las pondrá sobre ti, antes las pondrá sobre todos los que te aborrecieren.
16 You are to destroy all the nations the Lord your God hands over to you. Don't look on them with sympathy. Don't worship their gods, for that will end up being a trap to you.
Y consumirás a todos los pueblos que te da el SEÑOR tu Dios; no los perdonará tu ojo; ni servirás a sus dioses, que te será tropiezo.
17 You may say to yourselves, “These nations are stronger than us. How on earth can we drive them out?”
Cuando dijeres en tu corazón: Aquellos gentiles son muchos más que yo, ¿cómo los podré desarraigar?
18 But don't be afraid of them. Make sure you remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and the whole of Egypt:
No tengas temor de ellos; acuérdate bien de lo que hizo el SEÑOR tu Dios con Faraón y con todo Egipto;
19 the amazing tests you witnessed, the signs and miracles, the great power and incredible strength the Lord your God used to lead you out. The Lord your God is going to deal with all the nations you're currently afraid of in the same way.
de las grandes pruebas que vieron tus ojos, y de las señales y milagros, y de la mano fuerte y brazo extendido con que el SEÑOR tu Dios te sacó; así hará el SEÑOR tu Dios con todos los pueblos de cuya presencia tú temieres.
20 On top of this, the Lord your God will send the hornet against them until anyone who has survived and anyone hiding from you have been killed.
Y también enviará el SEÑOR tu Dios sobre ellos avispas, hasta que perezcan los que quedaren, y los que se hubieren escondido de delante de ti.
21 Don't be frightened of these nations, for the Lord your God, who is with you, is a powerful and awesome God.
No desmayes delante de ellos, que el SEÑOR tu Dios está en medio de ti, Dios grande y terrible.
22 The Lord your God will drive out these nations ahead of you in stages. You won't be able to get rid of them all at the same time, or you'd be overwhelmed by wild animals.
Y el SEÑOR tu Dios echará a estos gentiles de delante de ti poco a poco; no los podrás acabar luego, para que las bestias del campo no se aumenten contra ti.
23 But the Lord your God will hand them over to you and throw them into a terrible panic, until they are wiped out.
Mas el SEÑOR tu Dios los entregará delante de ti, y él los quebrantará con grande destrozo, hasta que sean destruidos.
24 He will give their defeated kings to you to be killed, and even their names will be forgotten. No one will be able to withstand you; you will completely destroy them.
Y él entregará sus reyes en tu mano, y tú destruirás el nombre de ellos de debajo del cielo; nadie te hará frente hasta que los destruyas.
25 You must burn the idols of their god. Don't desire the silver and gold that covers them. Don't take it or otherwise it will be a trap for you because the Lord your God detests anything to do with idols.
Las esculturas de sus dioses quemarás en el fuego; no codiciarás plata ni oro de sobre ellas para tomarlo para ti; para que no tropieces en ello, porque es abominación al SEÑOR tu Dios;
26 Don't bring any detestable idol into your house, otherwise you will treated just like it—by being set apart for destruction. You are to treat idols as totally despicable, and stay far away from them, because they are set apart for destruction.
y no meterás abominación en tu casa, para que no seas tú anatema como ella; del todo la aborrecerás y la abominarás; porque es anatema.
