< Deuteronomy 19 >

1 After the Lord your God has destroyed the nations whose land he's giving you, and after you have driven them out and settled in their cities and houses,
Nígbà tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ bá ti pa àwọn orílẹ̀-èdè tí yóò fi ilẹ̀ wọn fún ọ run, àti nígbà tí ìwọ bá ti lé wọn jáde tí o sì dó sí àwọn ilẹ̀ àti ilé wọn gbogbo.
2 then you are to choose three sanctuary towns in the country that the Lord your God is giving you to own.
Ìwọ yóò ya ìlú mẹ́ta sọ́tọ̀ fún ara à rẹ láàrín ilẹ̀ rẹ tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run fún ọ láti ni.
3 You are build roads to these towns. Divide the country the Lord is giving you into three sections. This way anyone who kills someone else can easily run to these towns for protection.
Ṣe àwọn ọ̀nà sí wọn àti kí o pín ilẹ̀ tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run fún ọ gẹ́gẹ́ bí ogún sí ọ̀nà mẹ́ta nítorí kí apànìyàn lè sá níbẹ̀.
4 This is what is to happen when a person accidentally kills someone else without meaning to, and runs to one of these sanctuary towns to save their life.
Èyí ni òfin nípa apànìyàn, tí ó sì sá síbẹ̀ láti pa ẹ̀mí rẹ̀ mọ́. Ẹni tí ó pa aládùúgbò láìmọ̀ọ́mọ̀ṣeé láìjẹ́ pé ó ti ní àrankàn pẹ̀lú u rẹ̀ láti ọjọ́ pípẹ́.
5 For example, if a man goes to cut wood in the forest with his friend and swings his axe to chop down a tree, but the head flies off the handle and hits and kills his friend, he may run to one of these towns to save his life.
Bí àpẹẹrẹ, ọkùnrin kan lè lọ sínú igbó pẹ̀lú aládùúgbò rẹ̀ láti gé igi, bí ó sì ti gbé àáké e rẹ̀ láti gé igi náà lulẹ̀, bí àáké náà bá yọ tí ó sì bà aládùúgbò rẹ̀, tí òun sì kú. Ọkùnrin yìí lè sálọ sí ọ̀kan nínú àwọn ìlú yìí láti gba ẹ̀mí rẹ̀ là.
6 Otherwise the avenger in his anger might chase after the man and catch up with him and kill him, if it's a long distance. The man would be killed even though he didn't deserve to die, because he hadn't meant to cause any harm.
Bí kò ṣe bẹ́ẹ̀, agbẹ̀san ẹ̀jẹ̀ lè máa lépa rẹ̀ nínú ìbínú, kí ó sì lé e bá nítorí pé ọ̀nà jì, kí ó sì pa á bí ó tilẹ̀ jẹ́ pé kò yẹ sí ikú, nígbà tí ó ṣe é sí aládùúgbò rẹ̀ láìjẹ́ pé ó ti ní àrankàn pẹ̀lú u rẹ̀ láti ọjọ́ pípẹ́.
7 This is the reason why I'm giving this order to choose three sanctuary towns.
Ìdí nìyìí tí mo fi pa á láṣẹ fún ọ láti ya ìlú mẹ́ta sọ́tọ̀ fún ara rẹ.
8 Should the Lord your God expand your territory, as he promised your forefathers, and give you all the land he said he would,
Tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ bá sì fẹ́ agbègbè rẹ, gẹ́gẹ́ bí ó ti ṣe ìbúra fún àwọn baba ńlá a yín, tí ó sì fún ọ ní gbogbo ilẹ̀ tí ó ti ṣe ìlérí fún wọn,
9 and if you are careful to keep all these commandments I'm giving you today, loving the Lord your God and always following his ways, then you are to choose three additional three sanctuary towns.
nítorí tí ìwọ fi pẹ̀lẹ́pẹ̀lẹ́ tẹ̀lé gbogbo òfin yìí tí mo pàṣẹ fún ọ lónìí yìí, kí o fẹ́ Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ, kí o sì rìn ní ọ̀nà an rẹ̀ ní gbogbo ìgbà náà, kí o ya ìlú mẹ́ta sọ́tọ̀.
10 In this way the blood of innocent people won't not be shed in the country the Lord your God is giving you to own and you won't be responsible for the death of innocent people who aren't guilty of losing their lives.
Ṣe èyí kí a má ṣe ta ẹ̀jẹ̀ aláìṣẹ̀ sílẹ̀ ni ilẹ̀ rẹ, èyí tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ yóò fún ọ gẹ́gẹ́ bí ogún, kí ìwọ kí ó má bá a jẹ̀bi ẹ̀jẹ̀ títa.
11 On the other hand, if a man hates someone, hides in wait, and attacks and kills them, and then the killer runs to one of the sanctuary towns,
Ṣùgbọ́n tí ọkùnrin kan bá kórìíra arákùnrin rẹ̀, tí ó sì lúgọ dè é, tí ó mú u tí o lù ú pa, tí ọkùnrin náà sì sálọ sí ọ̀kan nínú àwọn ìlú wọ̀nyí,
12 the elders of his home town must send for him, bring him back, and hand him over to the avenger to be killed.
àwọn àgbàgbà ìlú rẹ yóò sì ránṣẹ́ pè é ìwọ, yóò sì mú un padà láti ìlú náà, wọn yóò sì fi í lé àwọn agbẹ̀san ẹ̀jẹ̀ lọ́wọ́ kí ó lè kú.
13 Show him no mercy. You are to eliminate from Israel the guilt of shedding the blood of the innocent, and then all will be well.
Má ṣe ṣàánú fún un. O ní láti fọ ẹ̀bi ẹ̀jẹ̀ aláìṣẹ̀ kúrò ni Israẹli, kí ó bá à lè dára fún ọ.
14 Don't move your neighbor's boundary marker. It was placed there by your ancestors to mark the land allotment you will receive in the country that the Lord your God is giving you to own.
Má ṣe pa òkúta ààlà aládùúgbò rẹ dà tí aṣíwájú rẹ fi lélẹ̀ nínú ogún tí ó gbà nínú ilẹ̀ tí Olúwa Ọlọ́run rẹ fi fún ọ láti ni ní ìní.
15 The evidence given by a single witness is not enough to prove a sin or a crime against someone, never mind what offense they are alleged to have committed. The facts must be confirmed by the evidence given by two or three witnesses.
Ẹlẹ́rìí kan ṣoṣo kò tó láti dájọ́ ọkùnrin kan tí o fi ẹ̀bi ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ yóò wù kí ó lè ṣẹ̀ lẹ́bi. A ó fi ìdí ọ̀rọ̀ múlẹ̀ láti orí ẹ̀rí ẹni méjì tàbí mẹ́ta.
16 If someone falsely accuses another person of a crime,
Tí alárankàn ẹlẹ́rìí èké bá dúró láti fi ẹ̀sùn ẹ̀ṣẹ̀ kan ọkùnrin kan,
17 both those involved must come to be judged in the presence of the Lord by the priests and judges who are then in office.
àwọn méjèèjì tí àríyànjiyàn wà láàrín wọn gbọdọ̀ dúró níwájú Olúwa níwájú àwọn àlùfáà àti àwọn adájọ́ tí ó wà ní ibi iṣẹ́ ní ìgbà náà.
18 The judges shall conduct a full investigation, and if the accuser proves to be a liar who has made false accusations
Àwọn adájọ́ gbọdọ̀ ṣe ìwádìí fínní fínní bí ẹ̀rí bá sì jẹ́ irọ́, tí ó fi ẹ̀rí èké sun arákùnrin rẹ̀,
19 then you must punish the accuser in the same way they wanted to punish their victim. You must eliminate this evil from among you.
nígbà náà ni kí ó ṣe sí i gẹ́gẹ́ bí ó ṣe fẹ́ ṣe sí arákùnrin rẹ̀. O ní láti wẹ búburú kúrò láàrín rẹ.
20 Then the rest of the people will hear and be afraid, and they will never again do anything so evil among you. Then everyone else will hear about it and be afraid, and won't ever do anything so evil.
Àwọn ènìyàn tókù yóò gbọ́ nípa èyí, wọn yóò sì bẹ̀rù, kí irú nǹkan búburú bẹ́ẹ̀ máa tún sẹ̀ mọ́ láàrín yín.
21 Don't show any mercy. The rule is life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, and foot for foot.
Má ṣe fi àánú hàn, ẹ̀mí fún ẹ̀mí, ojú fún ojú, eyín fún eyín, apá fún apá, ẹsẹ̀ fún ẹsẹ̀.
